if you can remember it you wernt there to coin an old phrase but its true and all my mates said dont get married on ecstacy! but i did still lovin though
hmm...everything has turned into complete bollocks, not just the slammin old skool rave but even cars, food even TV, i wish i could push the big blue rewind button and go back to the good old skool days when everything was 100x better and when i was chewing my face off to this :/ anyone agree? i fuckin sincerely hope so
Listen all you doggers. Music changes, yeah i hated the change but it happens. I still love the pure techno scene. It never let go. Th at tells you the strength of it. ba
@djteknovibe i see your point, i was around just slightly later but let your mind open to different styles. i like to think i embrace them all or some shit like that. over
@djteknovibe Too true, the comercial bouncey shite killed the Hardcore scene for me. Loved it back in 91,92,93 started going shit with the bouncey stuff in 94 for me.
Seems that when the best underground shit gets good they try and take it mainstream and commercialize it?!?! Same happened to garage (Fuck ‘so solid crew’) Selfish pricks got pound signs in their eyes aint they. Fucking money. Brings out the worse in people.
Your bang on the money there bruv. Attempted commercialization of hardcore damaged it forever. Hasn’t killed it – hardcore will never die.
coz hardcore was less hardcore. It wasn’t the same.
The whole money thing makes a lot of sense, its so much more cost effective to pay the loyalties on a pre existing, well produced track and then speed it up with the addition of a familiar bouncing hardcore bassline than it is to use ur imagination and pay to produce your own choon. And that’s what kids will think hardcore is about, which is so fuckin wrong and depressing man.
commercial track! What the fuck is hardcore or even happy bout that!? That AINT right. As for scooter…….cocksucker!
Therefore, Im not 100% on who im placing blame (might be Brisk, but don’t hold me to it). But I remember hardcore tape packs turning…well, gay really! As you said – faster versions of commercial tracks (190bpm or sumthin stupid like that) dominating sets.(pretty green eyes) That was the later 90’s or even early y2k I think. Put me off. Thas wen I took a serious in DnB
This said, I still agree with most of what you’ve said. Hardcore is no longer hardcore in the slightest! If you listen to tunes from the early 90’s and compare to tracks from late 90’s there is a distinctive lack of what I see as the hardcore sound. The piano vibe and wicked riffs, samples and vocals were used less and less, as were the breakbeat kick and snare sound’s (Jungle sound). instead you have that “baung baung baung baung” on loop dumped over a sped up
But as you said, the lacking recognition of jungle these days is likely the resulting lack in popularity. Guess that’s why its ‘old skool jungle’.
Would you consider tunes like ‘field of dreams’ and ‘heart of gold’ to be ‘cheesy love tunes’? is the likes of Dj seduction/ ss-sub dub, Q-project-champion sound etc more your preference? Personally I would vote for all of the above. I was one of those ravers who got off their face and blazed hard into the wonderland of hardcore but am partial to a
@djteknovibe some very valid points there mate so again, I have to agree. But I do think that jungle has left us. At least, i aint heard none for a very long time and couldnt name you any modern Jungle Dj's. I always felt that DnB was predominantly sped up jungle break beats with a phatt badass bassline dropped in. add a little Stevie hyper D (RIP) and boom! You got a revolution.
Take Hype for instance. he later became a proppa good Drum and' Dj in my opinion, namely his mental scratch’iz.
@djteknovibe i totally agree with wot ur sayin man, but there are one or two other things contributing to the "death" of hardcore (HCTID). for instance, jungle was developing into drum and bass and with the evolution of DnB came with it dark and naughty basslines. same thing happened to garage - it went all moody but as it became more fashionable to be 'gangsta' i feel many ravers drifted in this direction. i blame the rap game! but fuck all that shit man, i still love oldskool hardcore.
started raving 92 as a 16 yr old sterns massive carried on till 22 best 6 yrs of my life till me kids lol but still shut my eyes listen to a bit oh yes big shout to the dreamscape , fusion , world dance , and THE STERNS MASSIVE
i have a hard time listenin to hardcore these days cuz it makes me feel so sad that it isnt around anymore. MY MY MY LIFEEE IN THE SUNNNSHINEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.. hardcore forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@djteknovibe Right on the money...Force and Piles were obsessed with becoming popstars and were more than willing to kill an underground scene to get there. Their sound has since become the blueprint of today's vibe where vocals are the main focus of the track rather than a pumping piano/synth riff. Wankers the pair of them.
Hardcore changed massively throughout the 90s, listen to a choon from 1990 upto 98 and every year has a differnet sound, slow introduction of the kick drum becoming the focus of the drum beats and more of a 'happy' element to it. My Fav is the 95 era where the kick drum lead the sound, but the old skool stabs were still going strong :).
DJTEKNOVIBE U ARE ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN RIGHT I NEVER LIKED FORCE N STYLES THEY WERE FUCKIN FAGGOTS MAKRK E MOTHER FUCKIN G
FUCKIN STUPID FAGGOT HARDCORE AINT THE SAME LIL FAGGOT KIDS JUST DONT FUCKIN KNOW ABOUT HARDCORE BACK IN THE 19MOTHER FUCKIN 90S HARDCORE TILL I DIE YEAH MOTHER FUCKIN RIGHT THEY DONT KNOW SHIT
omg this is bringin back memories, my high vis jacket, kangol hat, adidas original tracksuit, centre partin hair cut, white gloves, and can of redstripe!!! haha respect to all the oldschool ravers, together we stand, divided we fall, love, peace, UNITY!!
I was actually at this set and had a blast off my fucking nut on white doves - ahhhhh - those were the days - I was at Skegness for World Dance the year before and World Party in 93 - those 3 years were the best of times - peace out to all the old school nutters!
This was the first Dreamscape tape I ever had. My mate recored Slipmatt on one side and Clarkee on the other. Only had a 60min tape though so I missed the end of the set. Found the whole event floating around on the net a while back. Also got a Helter Skelter tape with Swan'e on it at the same time. Have no idea which event that was.........probably never find out :(
@DnBphanatik I still had a london turbo jacket til recently too. Things seen better days now (cuffs were in a right state) so iv just cut the patch out as a keepsake.
I was listning to this music from 10 years old but just missed out on going to all these mental raves because I was only born in 1980, so just had to listen on all the multi packs, I have them all complete from dreamscape 1 !! awesome, got all the oters Amnesia house, helter, dance nation etc ! fuckin love it !
shit your lucky i was born in 89 then when all the fun was. now its just nigger bop thats being played i cant get down with that shit any more, raps dead to me, this shit is still raw
Still love listening to Slipmatt now, and i'm 41 now. He is the Godfather of Happy Hardcore. I have to say, though, that by the time this came out RAVE was dead. Once The Sanctuary and Eclipse started holding these events the true scene was a memory. God those nights, meeting in a supermarket car park and all following some twat who said he knew the way, dancing in a field on disco biscuits. We will never see the like again.
I went to this-great night. CS gas went off towards the end of the night, but apart from that, everyone played a blinding set. Carl Cox was amazing and LTJ played one of his best sets ever.
Mate consider yourself extremely lucky. I would have killed to been there man. Unfortunaltly im only 16 and the times of this quality tunes are over. But i envy the fact u went :) Got this on tape:p
I went to DS 4, I think the other old skool guys who posted are right, that best days were done by 1994, it just got quicker & quicker to the point you couldn't rave to it anymore, we were lucky to catch the end of the good times, when E's were...E's, when the music was for dancing too.
Fantastic, I went most of them too.. although the Eclipse Cov was proberbly one of the best venues for me, Banging tunes, new age, list is endless.. Having said that heaven on earth, entropy, Amnisia,Dance planet ect . Infact 1990- 194 Period. Its just ashame that the things you had back then with your water arn't the same hay?? (If ou know what I mean. "Sensi mania from jamaica " "Two blacks and a bubble..." (Bad boy P) Ok getting carried. he he
I wouldn't say hardcore has got shit, it has just changed, like every genre of music really. Some of the new hardcore stuff is really good! This is awesome as well tho! =]
What do u mean when u say new hardcore coz the europeans think of hardcore as something totally different - a monotenous style of techno. Cant stand that shit
looking for a set from Helter Skelter or Dreamscape, DJ Slipmatt, think it was 93 or 94,can't remember wat MC - played 'Cold As Ice' in the set, ring any bells????
