this is the last rock and roll album (cd) I purchased.... just can't find anything to top this.... almost ten years later now. I listen to college radio religiously. Nothing out there.... I'm scouring the air waves. help me will you? help us, please...passively
@G05Box Me too. It definitely sounds more like Lennon in the sample, must be how they pitch or time-shifted it. High praise for Strummer in a way, but he was great in his own right. Glad he was on earth as long as he was, shame it wasn't longer.
the nazi's sweared that they'll exterminate a part of humanity, and they exterminated a part of humanity. The communists sweared, that they'll make every person equal, and they exterminated a part of humanity. -Esterhazy.
for some reason, this was the first thing that came to my mind when i listened to this song...maybe...im broken, who knows...maybe, because ive recently seen the movie called The Life Of Others. every1 must see it. wonderful!
I love these lyrics. all those lost, unborn and unmade in a spontaneous massive parade, marching by the millions. carrying red flags. all of dirty and proud. a diverse crowd, to say the least.
Schnable was probably well aware of it,but the irony is still powerful in that this song was used for the end titles after Jean Do' Bauby died, and Joe Strummer was already dead."The Diving Bell and the Butterfly", is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
i think its amazing stummers lyrics and genius and there music talent cant be ignored i find it majical i think when he said he wants to grow old in music he did
i also think its good he died when he did because otherwise he wuld be a ledgend he is remembered for the best part of his life
No. I wish he were still alive. I hadn't found out about Joe until about 6 years after his death. I'd give anything to see him play a gig and meet him
He died too young. Why didn't i see him all the times he came to play in town when he did? I kept putting it off thinking next time -- til it was too late.
lennon don,t have shit on strummer.joe was the real working class heroe.lennon was just a bullshit artist who in the end thought he was jesus christ.joe was alway,s joe.
he sang about peace and harmony and behind everyones back he secretely funded the IRA . he just wrote what he thought the people wanted to hear but it all meant shit in the end.
mcartny was and still is the true genius of the beatles.
@dirtballjohnny I loved Joe too, but, whatever your intentions, you've done him no justice there. Working class hero? He was a a middle class boarding school boy. Joe was always 'Joe'? No he wasn't. He was also John Mellor. It was his artistry, his humanity, his commitments that transcended all that. Surely that's the point. Bad-mouthing Lennon just doesn't crack it.

I'm with Strummer on this@Joeey. We can't transcend ourselves. We can, however, transcend the social and political restrictions imposed on us. We should leave disappearing up your own fundament to the hippies and the Buddhists.
I'm on my brother's account, so this is really OapostropheC, but I have to think that Joe must be a smidge Irish because this song is the best auditory simulation of a wake I have ever heard. It's like good medicine.
I don't think he was but somehow had strong ties with Irish. He redid "Minstrel Boy" which is a traditional Irish song and he filled in for "The Pogues" for awhile.
what does his shirt say?

I've been lucky enough to see him live in 1989 and man he was really something believe me. He was an incredibly talented artist. He was inspiring.

@StonefieldJim4 i know he was middle class.
I'm working class and he was a hero to me hence "working class hero".
To me John Mellor will always be Joe strummer, the same as Robert Zimmerman will always be Bob Dylan.i,m not bad mouthing John Lennon.
I,m stating a fact.
He was a bullshit artist who thought he was the be all end all.
The man styled himself on Jesus Christ in his later years. That says it all right there.
As a fan of Joe, i can't for the life of me see the injustice i served him.
dirtballjohnny 1 year ago
@StonefieldJim4 and if i did do him any injustice i'm sure he would forgive me.
.......now if only i could get your forgiveness i might be able to sleep at night.
