Venomfangx helped me become an atheist. IMO most Christians see the world the way VFX sees the world, their god, the Bible, science, and most likely right wing politics. Realizing that made me see that beliefs based on fantasy and mythology were destructive to believers and the rest of humanity.
I have found the videos in this series quite interesting, especially as I can identify a number of people on YT as being similiar to VF. You would hope that a person quite keen, as he clearly is, to act/speak as he does so publicly, would then have the decency or at least the maturity to deal with the emotions/reactions he stirs up in those who view his postings? It's good to see that they are taken to task, so to speak.

I have to say, I followed the VFX thing quite intently as it played out and I'm always amazed at what a small group of men and women (the cast of characters) did by playing this drama out and making the internet/Youtube such a fascinating place to be both to hear others' ideas and to see some of the interactions people are capable of.
Is it fair to say that Shawn may just be representative of what we are all doing? I mean, are we all not withdrawing to a certain extent under the impression that socializing on this bit of wire and plastic in front of us is comperable to doing so in the flesh (Pink Floyd reference intended)? Maybe with Shawn's generation, yeah, I'm an old git, there isn't a difference between IRL and online. I don't know, I'm just postulating and welcome any opinions on this idea.

Damn, VFX makes me feel grateful that I have major depressive disorder! Sure, at times I can feel very low and it affects the people around me, but at least I'm not completely and utterly oblivious to the fact that I have something wrong with me. IMHO, he ought to either be in college, in the military or serving humankind in the Red Cross or the Peace Corps. We OWE a debt to American society and our human sub-species. I think VFX had a reasonable use in the world...haha using up the worlds oxygen supply might be a bit harsh. The sum of what I truly meant: A person is the collaboration of their experiences and the effect of those events had on his constantly developing personality, and a person will be influenced differently depending on his age, intelligence, maturity, sex, etc.

By "sick" I don't mean it's something he had from birth and it just can't be helped, so we should pity him. It's something that can be treated if he manages to obtain the desire to get out of it.
The term "mental disorder" is something that is often misunderstood. A mental disorder is not the same as a mental handicap. A disorder was caused by, as you said, events in his life (or lack there of maybe). A good example is Post-traumatic stress disorder (aka "shell shock".
A mental disorder with varying degrees from the experiences of war. It's not permanent with the will to treat it and the right treatment. It's merely a reorganization of thought process. Unfortuneately, the new process usually doesn't fit into a normal society, so it demands treatment.
That's not to say Shawn can use the disorder as an excuse for his actions. There are still consequences. I just hope he gets treatment. Maybe his parents are doing just that for him. I don't know.

IMHO, he ought to either be in college, in the military or serving humankind in the Red Cross or the Peace Corps. We OWE a debt to American society and our human sub-species. As someone who has dealt with emotional issue personally and with other clients as an occupation. I turn away from hatred and choose the way of compassion. I don't endorse his ideology or methods of defending it. I place my energy and faith into communication with people of different ideas. I enjoy the interaction and I am constantly reminded that no matter your level of education or position in society, there is always something new to discover and learn. I hope he finds that as well.

I think VFX had a reasonable use in the world...haha using up the worlds oxygen supply might be a bit harsh. He was pretty good entertainment, especially when tf00t, DPR and the like destroyed his arguments. This is halarious, I had to check out this VFX's site because I've been trying to watch some of his vidoes and can't seem to find any. Anyway I went to check it out and the only thing that came up was a statement about his parrents removing his site and appologizing if he offended anyone. And apparently I missed it by three days. Honestly, I think we should take a bit of philosophy from TheAmazingAtheist's book.
I don't think he has narcissistic personality disorder, he is just an asshole. He is a legitimate, true blue, dick. If being a jerk is a personality disorder, then so be it, however I would contend that he is simply human and has a right to brandish characteristics that we would perceive as negative.

All right, that was my bad. That was a pretty confident sentence, but I wasn't intending that to be an infallible statement.
The sum of what I truly meant: A person is the collaboration of their experiences and the effect of those events had on his constantly developing personality, and a person will be influenced differently depending on his age, intelligence, maturity, sex, etc.
VFX has developed in a way that makes him a really self-centered and unkind person. I don't think he's "sick."

By "sick" I don't mean it's something he had from birth and it just can't be helped, so we should pity him. It's something that can be treated if he manages to obtain the desire to get out of it.
The term "mental disorder" is something that is often misunderstood. A mental disorder is not the same as a mental handicap. A disorder was caused by, as you said, events in his life (or lack there of maybe). A good example is Post-traumatic stress disorder (aka "shell shock".

A mental disorder with varying degrees from the experiences of war. It's not permanent with the will to treat it and the right treatment. It's merely a reorganization of thought process. Unfortuneately, the new process usually doesn't fit into a normal society, so it demands treatment.
That's not to say Shawn can use the disorder as an excuse for his actions. There are still consequences. I just hope he gets treatment. Maybe his parents are doing just that for him. I don't know.

VFX may have been using religion to gain acceptance from a community that hold similar beliefs as a means to build up low self-esteem.
Believing that the world is evil and everyone is a sinner, the good prostrate themselves before god asking to be forgiven and the bad turn away from god and persecute believers / "the good".
It is a no win situation and the only way out; dying and going to heaven for an everlasting reward. It is a huge waste of the one life he has to live.

However, it could also be Bi-Polar Disorder.
Many of the characteristics overlap. Without a psychological evaluation, there's no way to ever be sure.
For his sake, I hope it's chemical.
There is no real treatment for someone with a personality disorder.
