Try from stationary - if you want to go the opposite way - first gear, pull handbrake, throttle up, release clutch, and make it just turn right there! Works best on wet / gravel surfaces
@HueJazzz Yes, you can. The handbrake turn is the one where you dip the clutch with a manual gearbox. With an automatic gearbox you would select neutral to prevent the engine stalling and then, once the manoeuvre is complete, select drive to power out. Have fun! Hope you attract some clunge doing so.
@jayive34 Nah, there is no need to spend quids in the hundreds/thousands/tens of thousands for that. These front wheel drive tricks work on any front wheel drive car, just as the rear wheel drive tricks work in any rear wheel drive car. drive car. The front wheel
@jayive34 Well some cars, such as the Range Rover and the McLaren SLR, come as automatic as standard with no manual or sequential option so with those it is auto or not buy the car at all.
@rrrcorvesco Well then find somewhere empty and wide open to try it. Like a gymkhana course or an airfield or an empty car park. You know you want to... You could attract some clunge doing that.
Everytime i try this my had brake is not strong enough to lock the back tires... it just sort of slows it down. what can i do to fix this? (i have a spyder eclipse)
@rappytappy First off 350z "pushes" exactly 287, 300 or 306bhp depending on MY (excluding 3,8L Nismo). That's far off those 340 WheelHP. Second, most of them are automatic, check autotrader or something, what people are selling. Third, could you show me a manual gearbox with paddle shifters? Fourth, you've never drifted a car in your life right? Go back to playing COD and lying about your age on youtube...p.s. I liked the video :)
if you do this on a regular basis your going to destroy the tires, handbrake, and clutch... and thats just the small stuff youd definitely need to replace.
@swankyification i'd say its not impossible but if you only drive an automatic id say its impossible cuz your driving skills are lacking compared to people who drive manuals
the ultimate fwd fun? an empty snow covered parking lot. Make sure you have a shovel and chains go rescue yourself from the bank, speaking from experience.
I don't get it either, should you choose the same car you see in stunt videos so you get a good handbrake?
My bmw's handbrake=only good for parking.
I've witnessed only two cars ever that can lock rear wheels with handbrake on asphalt: my mom's 1998 chrysler neon, and a rental renault twingo 2008 :)
I don't get it either, should you choose the same car you see in stunt videos so you get a good handbrake?

So how do I do these with an automatic with a foot parking brake? It's an old dodge caravan (old as I am), and I want to take it out to the track. My mom won't let me use her car.
@reddot44 like i tried to say, it doesnt. its just that better drivers tend to drive manuals. its like you said, automatics are for people who dont care much for cars, or driving in general. those are the same people that never use turn signals, talk on their phones while driving, and cant seem to keep track of whose turn it is to go at intersections.
veryy similarly... depending on ur car, though, you'll have to adjust for inability to build revs with a dipped cutch by jsut managing ur accel more carefully.... but don't do it auto.... there's no point
@apemonekeyman Same principal, except no clutch obviously and when going into drift or 180, chuck your shifter into 1. Wont be exactly the same, might not even get much wheel spin depending on your car. Will be essentially the same thing though ;)
@apemonekeyman Most automatics will have the gears available. For example D1 & D2 or just 1,2,&3. Normally you'd drive in overdrive for typical commuting and better fuel efficiency. Its not just Park & Drive on automatics.
@FlackVendetta Guess you'll be riding a bicycle then. Even ferrari and lamborghini have stopped making manuals. Everything is either automatic or paddle shifters
@yunderup nope. its easier. you get going in reverse in about 40 - 50 k an hour or so, & flick the wheel a little to the left (to throw off weight) then steer hard to the right. then thats it
@SlyATV I would expect the gears to seriously hate it afterwards. Just reversing out of my driveway and if i dont stop whiles i have her in neutral then chuck her into drive she clunks like a bitch.
Doesn't reverse gear grind if you try to put it in while the car is still moving? Or are you suppose to put it in reverse when the car turns around and is for split second motionless?
Haha I did the handbrake turn after watching this bid on a gravel road with my 99 firefly and hit the ditch and felt the 2 side wheels lift of the ground haha I won't dare do the scandonavian flick at 70mph haha especially on pavement lol maybe 50kph on a back road alot easier on the car
If you drive like this your car will last an internity.... NOT!!! I wish I would have seen this vid before my Golf 2 GTI broke down, it would have been fun to try out these things
