This was the most helpful video that I have found, Thank you very much. I can't express my gratitude fully, but thank you sir. And I wish you the best in all you do!
I hope I have successfully de-mystified the install process.
Installing Drivers for Windows is where most people run into problems.
That's why it is good to have another computer connected to the Internet when you do this - if you get stuck you can download from one computer and then send to the new one via USB Drive - that's how I did it just the other day when I was building for someone.
Hey, I'm going to re-format my primary drive and do a clean install of windows, I'm going to move all my files to my secondary hard drive.Around 10:34 how you have to add a drive, if I have my secondary drive with all my files when I add it will I have to format that drive aswell, because wouldn't it delete my files, that I'm trying to save on my secondary?thanks
Yes, it uses the same BIOS - a graphical interface style.
Also love using ASUS AI Suite II, program you use once you are in Windows to adjust Fan Speeds, CPU Speeds, and a whole heap of other great stuff - makes life a whole lot easier.
@TemporalParadox1 okay thank you i cant thank you enough for this guide il be shore to fallow it when i do my build, and also sense its a different motherboard will it all hook up the same sry if i sound kinda nubish but im new to this lol
All you have to do is follow along in the Instruction Manual that will come with your Motherboard - it will clearly mark for you what connects to what.
Hello, I just recently setted up a computer, and I was wondering if you could point out the right video card driver for me to install from the ATI site? Windows 7 64 Bit, XFX ATI Radeon 6950 2GB. Could you please give me a link because I don't want to install the wrong driver. Thank you very much.
hii , plz i wanna know if i dont have a cd/dvd for my drivers how can i install my drivers if im upgrading from xp to windows 7 ? i only have the windows 7 cd thank you ... :D
NEED HELP! I did a clean install on windows 7 and now I can´t connect to the internet anymore :( Not even with a cable. PLease help. I can connect usb flashdrives. Its very strange. Please help.
If you have a 2nd Computer in your house, you can go to the website for the manufacturer of your computer or Motherboard, and download the Driver Pack.
Save this to a USB Stick or CD, and then you can re-install them into your Computer by going to the Device Manager.
If you don't have a 2nd computer, go to a friends place or an Internet Cafe to download your drivers.
I have downloaded a Windows 7 Ultimate O.S. from a torrent and it says that there are no keys required,it's cracked and all that stuff.I wanna know when that's in the description of the torrent,does it mean that I don't need a license because I don't even have one.One more thing that I was wondering is that I've put it on my D: Partition and do I need to burn the setup to a CD or can I open and Install the system like an ordinary program on my PC?
Sorry, but I never get involved with pirated software - it always seems to create problems going down this track - especially when it comes tom Windows 7.
You'll have to find someone who does this to get an answer - out of my depth on this one.
was wondering i am changing my mother board and cpu.i am running windows 7 ultimate now,when i swap do i need to lose everything on my hard drive and start over or can i just swap it out and use the same hard drive and not lose all my stuff and reinstale windows thanks.
You will need to re-install Windows 7, otherwise Windows is going to freak out.
When you install Windows is takes special note of your Motherboard & CPU - when you change these items, it will think you are installing on a 2nd computer and treat this as using a 2nd license code.
If you are using an OEM copy of W7, it only allows install to one computer.
Only the retail version will allow you to use this on a 2nd computer.
@TemporalParadox1 Thanks for the reply.i have one more Q, RIGHT NOW I HAVE A 1TERABYTE HD,3GB PER SEC i want to use the srt on the msi mother board that alows me to use a ssd as cach will it matter if the ssd is 3gb per sec or can i use a 6gb per sec thanks again love your vids this is second build so still kinda newbe lol cheers!!!
I have never used a RAID setup, so I can't really comment.
However, my best guess is that the newest SSD's (Series 3) would blow RAID right out of the water, I use a Series 2 OSZ SSD and it is insanely fast doing anything.
Hello I was wonder if I could load my operating system via another computer? Reason being is that I thought I had the right dvd drive with sata instead of ide, but it only supported ide. Thanks!
I installed a Creative X-Fi Sound Blaster card myself - no problems.
The instructions will tell you to de-activate the current Audio Drivers that come with the computer.
After installing everything, you can right-click on the Speaker Icon on the lower right corner of the Desktop, and then make sure the Realtek Drivers are disabled, and the Creative Drivers are enabled.

My first comment from my no brand new computer. Many thanks Dex for your great set of videos that gave me the nudge to build my own. I'm a Dextitute graduate. It's a wonderful (and very fast) thing. Less than a second from entering password to Windows ready! Wow. Thanks again Dex, Michael
Great Helpful video, but i was just wondering, i bought Windows 7 from a website (Legit, TAFE or University of Australia, or School) and it was virtual, how can i put this on a disk and can you use the key more than once? Cheers!
You can only use your license key on one computer, only the full retail version of Windows 7 allows you to load Windows onto multiple computers.
If you have already installed Windows 7 on your machine, you can then create a set of Physical Recovery Discs, in the event that your OS becomes corrupted.
Simply go to Control Panel - Back Up & Restore - Create a System Repair Disc - and then follow the instructions.
again thank you cause this will come in handy once i get new PC... i just can't live with intel celeron anymore =/ ... subbed and liked allso... great work dex
You wont know yourself once you upgrade to a new machine and CPU.
These new CPU's are bloody amazing - I am really impressed with the i7-2600k - it multi-tasks incredibly well and has sped up my video rendering times incredibly.

I was just wonder to install the operation system do I just put at the components in place (motherboard pros,ssd etc) then turn the computer one with the disc in the disc drive or do I add one component at a time after installing OS? this build is great but you see you have made a small mistake with your ssd when you installed it you should have told the installer to dont block storage by defoult. oh and btw use a program called uniblue driverscanner it scans for your hardware and hardware updates and you can install them aswell. note it needs a serial key but its worth it.(even google helps very good)
Excellent tutorial, but I wouldn't suggest using the default install options and then uninstalling the excess. That goes for any OS, driver or program disk. Most leave some garbage behind when you uninstall. Norton is especially notorious for this. causing conflicts with other anti-virus/anti-spyware programs.
The custom install option usually has all the defaults checked to begin with anyway, and you may find a hidden gem or two unchecked. It's worth the extra minute or two just to find out.
@TemporalParadox1 on my pc the aero peek went off nd i didn't kno how to put it back on, that happened since i put a new gpu into my pc, so since i've reinstalled windows everythings working fine
@TemporalParadox1 Well, it depends, how big files do you process, whats the resolution of them and how much effects you put in them. RAID0 isn't for files, just for scratch disks. What kind of files do you process?
@TemporalParadox1 Well Vegas is Vegas :D Its well made software, it isn't as power maniac as the Premiere Pro. But, It depends what you like, I like Premiere Pro, you like Vegas Pro.
Only if your laptop can run a 64 bit Operating System - if your computer is only running a 32 bit OS at the moment, it probably wont be able to load a 64 bit Windows 7.
hi i got some problem in installing windows 7 i have windows 7 all in one (SP1) but am already have a windows 7 on my toshiba satellite but i need to install the 64-bit but when i hit install setup and then i get like like this message >> select driver to be installed << so how to fix that problem ?? cause i know i have install it once before was fine
What Kind Of Computer Do You Use ? Cause i Have a compaq desktop and when i record and put it on youtube it doesnt come out in HD so i was wondering if you know why that my be happening. Plus i always put it on (HD settings) Please Help !!!!
Hi Dex, since you use 2-3 HDDs, setting Vegas preferences-temporary file folder ( Option - Preferences or Project properties ), do you use the suggested C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\ or do you target it onto the J drive? what about the Audio folder (preferencies you can find on the Poject proprieties) ?
I have experimented with changing the "AppData" folder, but in the end kept it in the default position because during one of my experiments Vegas got sick. I use System Mechanic to clean out ALL the Temporary folders in Windows, because over time they can become clogged up with crap and error reports.
In the Audio Device tab:
Audio Device Type = Windows Classic Wave Driver
Next three settings depend on what Sound Card you use - Mine = Speakers (Realtek HD)
so you only target finished edited videos files on the secondary-third HDD as " Recorded files folder " and keep the "Perendered files folder " to C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\ , right?
ps: thanx for the explanation. About the audio tab i was referring to, i meant the one you get clicking on the 2nd tab of the project preferences ( Alt+Enter), where in the end there's the -Recorded files folder browsing tab-
Default Audio recording Device = this will change depending on what you have connected to your computer. When my USB microphone is connected, I have to remember to select it otherwise it will point to the Sound Card Speakers only.
In the Audio Tab, you can select a Preferred Audio Editor (search for something like SoundForge.exe from the program list).
All other settings in both Tabs I leave at default.
if i have the same HDD with windows 7 from old pc( im changing motherboard,processor,graphics card), will i need to install(w7) it on new comp or will it just run straight off as W7?
I honestly couldn't tell you 100% - I am not geeky enough to know that.
Windows 7 on the old HDD has your Motherboard and Devices logged - so if you transplant it, you could have a non-functioning computer. I know that Microsoft has some anti-piracy rules written into the OS.
You have to be careful with which version of W7 you have - an OEM version is not going to like the transplant & may deactivate. If you have the FULL retail version there won't be a problem.
Basically Microsoft only allows you to install an OEM version on one computer. They consider changing the Motherboard & CPU as a NEW computer, so the OS may become non-functional.
If the original OS was the expensive retail version, you can install it on many computers.
If it was me, I would install W7 fresh with a new OEM version which costs about $100.
great, just what I was looking for. I watched the guides for the 2011 build PC and the basic installations guide just to be sure I won't miss anything when I'm doing the same thing myself. Great videos, appreciate it!!!
PC is up and running, no problems yet and my ssd is the shit. never seen my windows main screen pop up that fast. And it's all thanks to those great tutorials. You're the man!!!
basic stuff but verry goot fot noobies(new starters) its good that someone still makes good videos and teaching well i saw all the video ( i alredy know all this stuff but ferry good for starters ) and its verry well made congrats. youtube should have more users like you
Hello Dex, can you please explain me-us what does program files folder contain? I mean, where do you install common programs? On the C drive or the D drive?Has C drive installed only the operating system and Vegas or has is all of your personal programs?
I install ALL my programs and the OS on the C-drive.
Now because I use an 120GB SSD for the C-drive, I don't have that much space.
So I have one exception for "video games". Because video games have HUGE files, I have installed most of them on my D-drive. I created a NEW programs folder on this drive, so when I install games I change the default save location.
Yes I know what RAID 0 is. In a parallel Universe I would give it a go.
In this Universe I prefer to keep all my videos stored as single files instead of being split in half. I hate the thought of loosing valuable archives because one drive goes bad and the other becomes useless.
@johndough813 When you buy your Operating System, you only need to get an OEM copy of Windows. I made the mistake of buying a copy from Ebay which turned out to be counterfeit and wouldn't register.
This was the most helpful video that I have found, Thank you very much. I can't express my gratitude fully, but thank you sir. And I wish you the best in all you do!

You have to buy it - it's the only way.
An OEM copy of Windows 7 costs around $100.
If you try and use a pirated copy of Windows, you are asking for trouble.

Sorry for delay in answering your question.
I guess it is probably old news by now.
Yes you can add a drive that already has data on it - just DON'T do the formatting process.
Next you will have to re-address the folders on your C-drive to point to the D-drive (2nd drive).

You go to the XFX Website and then go the Support.
You need to register to access the Download Page for Updated Drivers.
TemporalParadox1 1 month ago

If you are using Windows 7, it has a great "roll back" feature for Graphics Drivers.
So if something goes wrong, you can go into Device Manager and restore very quickly to the previous driver you were using.

11zouzou11 1 month ago
@11zouzou11
You go to Control Panel - Device Manager - and then manually Update the Drivers.
As long as you have an Internet connection, Windows 7 can search for Drivers to get things going.
You may have to do lots of Manual Searches for Drivers - like updating Printer Drivers direct from the manufacturers website.
Also make sure you have Windows Update turned ON.

At 2:15 is where you see all the Disc Drives Installed on your Computer.
If nothing is showing, then you will have to go into the BIOS first and turn the Drive ON.
You may even need to change which SATA ports they are connected to.
TIP: Don't connect your MAIN C Drive to the Marvell Controller Sata Ports if you have any.

Part One:
Sounds like you are just missing Drivers.
Go to Control Panel - Device Manager
If any Drivers are missing, you should see a section opened up with a coloured icon next to what is missing.
Look at 'Network Adaptors" - then right-click on top and Update Driver.
**2nd thing: Do you have the Driver Disc that comes with your Motherboard?
If you have this, then it will have the Drivers on this Disc.
TemporalParadox1 1 month ago
@MrMytubevidmaker
Part Two:
If you have a 2nd Computer in your house, you can go to the website for the manufacturer of your computer or Motherboard, and download the Driver Pack.
Save this to a USB Stick or CD, and then you can re-install them into your Computer by going to the Device Manager.

You build the whole computer first with out being too neat.
Then turn it on before you close everything up, and see if it "posts".
If it is working properly, the screen for the Motherboard will show up and then it will ask for an Operating System disc.

For many "newbies" they wouldn't have a clue what is important and what is not.

Video editing FullHD footage without RAID0 is simply worse than hell...
FinlandApollo 4 months ago
@FinlandApollo
I haven't experienced any problems at all not using RAID0 - times have changed a bit now.
I use an i7-2600k @ 4.6GHz for Rendering + my GPU.
My workflow is simple and it works:
Video files are Read ONLY from my Video Library on HDD #1 - processed through CPU +GPU - and then Written ONLY to HDD #2.
With this setup I really don't believe RAID0 would make it any faster - my render times are amazing.
TemporalParadox1 4 months ago
@TemporalParadox1 Well, it depends, how big files do you process, whats the resolution of them and how much effects you put in them. RAID0 isn't for files, just for scratch disks. What kind of files do you process?
FinlandApollo 4 months ago
@FinlandApollo
"What kind of files do you process?"
Video editing FullHD footage - 1080p Vegas Pro 10 projects with all the Fx & Transitions that you would expect for a decent complex project.
TemporalParadox1 4 months ago
@TemporalParadox1 Well Vegas is Vegas :D Its well made software, it isn't as power maniac as the Premiere Pro. But, It depends what you like, I like Premiere Pro, you like Vegas Pro.
Premiere Pro often needs a RAID0 :)
FinlandApollo 4 months ago
@FinlandApollo It combines the drives and makes em easier. If I built one I would do a RAID0. Because at least I can understand it.

does this motherboard come with sound?
madmadmax321 4 months ago
@madmadmax321
Yes the MB comes with inbuilt sound.
Since building the computer I did add a dedicated Sound Card.
A Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - brilliant addition if sound is really important for you.

I had seen that some users have x86 bit and x64 both, How to do that, Can you suggest me some tutorial videos on youtube.
SuperErin21 4 months ago
@SuperErin21
I am not sure exactly what you mean.
When you install Windows 7 "64 bit" version - it has compatibility for both 64 bit and 32 bit programs.
So within say the Installed Programs folder, there are two separate folders.
#1 Program Files = 64 bit programs
#2 Program Files (x86) = 32 bit programs
TemporalParadox1 4 months ago
@TemporalParadox1 Thank you! So if I Install windows 7 in my laptop I can install all kind of programs in the belong local disk :@
SuperErin21 4 months ago
@SuperErin21
Only if your laptop can run a 64 bit Operating System - if your computer is only running a 32 bit OS at the moment, it probably wont be able to load a 64 bit Windows 7.
TemporalParadox1 4 months ago
hi i got some problem in installing windows 7 i have windows 7 all in one (SP1) but am already have a windows 7 on my toshiba satellite but i need to install the 64-bit but when i hit install setup and then i get like like this message >> select driver to be installed << so how to fix that problem ?? cause i know i have install it once before was fine

Yes I agree - Norton got exterminated immediately after making this video.
My preferred virus protector is ESET - best one I have ever used and extremely light on the system AND it doesn't do those annoying start-up scans.

What Kind Of Computer Do You Use ? Cause i Have a compaq desktop and when i record and put it on youtube it doesnt come out in HD so i was wondering if you know why that my be happening. Plus i always put it on (HD settings) Please Help !!!!
TexasMadeGees 5 months ago
@TexasMadeGees
I missed your question last week - sorry.
I built my own computer - I made two videos on it.
What frame size does your screen capture end up being ?
This is important to know if you are trying to do HD.
What frame size are you rendering to with Vegas ?
TemporalParadox1 4 months ago
@TemporalParadox1 Im Using 1280 by 720
TexasMadeGees 4 months ago
Hi Dex, since you use 2-3 HDDs, setting Vegas preferences-temporary file folder ( Option - Preferences or Project properties ), do you use the suggested C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\ or do you target it onto the J drive? what about the Audio folder (preferencies you can find on the Poject proprieties) ?
thanx!
muaythai4lifelife 5 months ago
@muaythai4lifelife
TemporalParadox1 5 months ago
@TemporalParadox1 thanx so much Derek ;)
so you only target finished edited videos files on the secondary-third HDD as " Recorded files folder " and keep the "Perendered files folder " to C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\ , right?
ps: thanx for the explanation. About the audio tab i was referring to, i meant the one you get clicking on the 2nd tab of the project preferences ( Alt+Enter), where in the end there's the -Recorded files folder browsing tab-
muaythai4lifelife 5 months ago
it is called Audio but on the last line there's that Recording files folder... that is not an audio files folder at all.
at the beginning i thought Vegas was asking me to search for a folder in which to send audio files. :P
muaythai4lifelife 5 months ago
@muaythai4lifelife

ELFHUNTER50 5 months ago
@ELFHUNTER50
TemporalParadox1 5 months ago
@ELFHUNTER50

Hello Dex, can you please explain me-us what does program files folder contain? I mean, where do you install common programs? On the C drive or the D drive?Has C drive installed only the operating system and Vegas or has is all of your personal programs?
Thanx
muaythai4lifelife 6 months ago
@muaythai4lifelife
I install ALL my programs and the OS on the C-drive.
Now because I use an 120GB SSD for the C-drive, I don't have that much space.
So I have one exception for "video games". Because video games have HUGE files, I have installed most of them on my D-drive. I created a NEW programs folder on this drive, so when I install games I change the default save location.

do you need a software to install the Wifi card?
Learn2Burn1 6 months ago
@Learn2Burn1
Wi-Fi cards will come with it's own driver or you can download it from the manufacturer.
However, if no Driver is installed manually, Windows will automatically install a generic driver.
Go to Control Panel - Device Manager - Network Adaptors (this is were the driver lives for Wi-Fi card)
TemporalParadox1 6 months ago
How did u have wifi mine doesn't and I still can't get on the Internet someone help me
hockeyiq 6 months ago
@hockeyiq
You need to install a Wireless Card - Network Adaptor is what your computer knows it as.
There are many different types you can install for about $30.
PC's are not like laptops which have inbuilt Wi-Fi.

do you know what raid0 is? I think you should do that
anApesFate 6 months ago
@anApesFate
Yes I know what RAID 0 is. In a parallel Universe I would give it a go.
In this Universe I prefer to keep all my videos stored as single files instead of being split in half. I hate the thought of loosing valuable archives because one drive goes bad and the other becomes useless.
I back up all my files on removable drives.
I am thinking about doing RAID1.
TemporalParadox1 6 months ago
@TemporalParadox1
only live once bra... one 2tb back up drive that does full copies every day and you'd be laughing
2tb in raid0 and an ssd for your os means your files off your mass storage would load faster and your render times would decrease

Roughly speaking how much did the computer cost to build between all the components? Please help I'm interested in building my first computer.

Prices go up and down and vary widely depending on what country you live in.
I have the full list of components in my Computer Build video.
TemporalParadox1 7 months ago
@TemporalParadox1 I'm really new at this, how to you put in bluetooth capabilities, is it like the wifi card? Thanx for all the help, great vids.
dbsasuke 7 months ago
@dbsasuke
You can now get motherboards with a bluetooth transmitter inbuilt into the board.
My ASUS P8P67 MB has one.
So work out which motherboard series matches the socket type of your CPU first.
Example: new Intel i7-2600k CPU has an 1155 socket, AMD 1090T 6core black edition CPU is an AM3 socket.
Then you can look up the specs and see which models have BT.

@johndough813 When you buy your Operating System, you only need to get an OEM copy of Windows. I made the mistake of buying a copy from Ebay which turned out to be counterfeit and wouldn't register.
