i wonder how her WHITE/GERMAN husband thinks about her works? or how relevant this work will be to her light skinned daughter when she grows up to an adult?
I find the comment about a sexy Hieronymus Bosch somewhat accurate, perhaps a sexual HB without the beauty. She's found her gimmick and she's not afraid to use it.
I'll go with what researc&knowledge123 said. Kara walkers work is a bit twisted and sick. But it is also true about what her creativity expresses. African-Americans have been opressed for generations. But it doesn't mean that it should be expressed in a way that is graphic and inapropriate. But things that have happened back then to slaves were inapropriate and sick...soooo.........I don't know. When I watched a short clip of her interview it was kinda disturbing what I saw.
Kara Walker is one of those artists who I find the RESPONSE to her work even more interesting than her images - and I do enjoy her work!
Art is art - it inspires support as well as backlash. Everyone is open to their own interpretation and I am glad for ALL perspectives, whether I agree with them or not :)

Kara Walker is a Sick & Twisted sorry excuse for an artist. She even looks like a slave. Her work is grotesque and unhealthy. Who could seriously live with this imagery in their homes? perverts and psychopaths I'm sure.
Even if I'd thumb you up you'd still be on red number so I better comment on this one.
I go along with your view Walker art, but personally, I don't find the images distrbing nor offensive, on the contrary, they seem to me very childish, immature and expired. Her research is obviously unbiased and she's like many, uncapable of making an objective and valid representation.
The only reason why its so popular is cause these rich white freaks get off on this type of stuff not because of the socio-political implications of the work. She's not too oppressed when her pieces sell up to 300,000 thousand dollars and she's married to a rich white jeweler and living on the upper west side

Yes, I agree, asdffd, I would have liked to hear what she would have said, this is a very strong show on racial subconscious stereotypes and social engramming, there is also a close similarity to Balinese shadow plays but replacing the Gita with Uncle Tom's Cabin, interesting...., oh by the way, thanks James...
So what if she's married to white man? That is her business!
You should respect art if you like it or don't like it.
She is simply illustrating what we are not taught in textbooks.
If you are not mature enough to handle it, get over it and don't watch these videos.

@lonely71 It shouldn't matter what he thinks. This is her work, not his.

'she even looks like a slave.'................YOU sound 'grotesque and unhealthy'. MOMA is the home of this work, seriously.

Kara's art makes people uncomfortable and it should. The truth is out there and white people should own up to their demons.

Simply fantastic. I wish she would have agreed to say a few words but regardless, excellent, excellent video.
