the good thing is in the UK if you have an old car you can get £2000 taken off the price of an IQ in part-exchange. Went in yesterday and priced one up and they offered £2k for my 97' Carina E (bought it for £600) 2 years ago
The iQ is really a more flexible smart, since you HAVE THE OPTION of it being a 3 seater (+1 child, but really only a 3 seater). It can also be a boot when more than 2 seats are not necessary. On the smart, whether you like it or not, the boot is always there and you can never seat a third (or an extra child). However, I've also read it is a lot more expensive.
Many reviews seem to like it compared to the smart though.
I think you will find the vast majority of people will agree the iQ is THE MOST similar currently produced car to the smart. The reasons are obvious. Why you cannot see the similarities I do not know.
@llandudnoboy its only 5 inches wider than a smart....wtf...and 12 inches longer than a smart. its almost the same size. just stfu because the iQ is better than a smart and the iQ comes with an auto...
The IQ is an excellent car but far too expensive in the citycar sector.
How can Toyota justifie charging nearly £1000 extra for a Sat/Nav when really it should be standard equipment.
If Toyota had offered a diesel in the IQ range i would have bought one straight away so i bought the fun to drive Smart Passion CDi off an internet dealer direct from the main agent for £9100 and have never regretted the decision getting around 84mpg in the process.
@llandudnoboy Yes the price is too high for the IQ. They are relying on the sexy image to sell it. You can buy used smart cars now for very reasonable prices and it costs little to run.

A brilliant idea which is in direct competition with the Mercedes Smart.
The Smart has a decent boot the IQ doesnot have a boot unless you put the rear seats down and then you loose the four seats.
The big minus against the IQ is its outraegeous price, nearly £9,500 for the starter model and an equally ridiculous £900 + for the sat nav.
If its cheap motoring your after buy a new Smart passion CDi and save yourself nearly £800 in the process.
IQ good idea too pricey

The IQ lays claim to being a four seater whilst the Smart has always been a two seater.
Why people are comparing two dissimilar cars i donot know.

Comment not meant in disrespect, just arguing :)

Apart from both cars tiny dimensions the IQ lays claim to being a four seater.
The Smart has two seats and a decent boot.
Everyone has been listening to all the motoring journalists comparing it to the Smart.
All Smarts are rear engined,IQ front engined.
Smart has the clever sequential automatic manual, IQ a normal manual gear lever.
About the only thing the IQ has in common with the Smart is it's small dimensions.
The width of the IQ could be a problem parking in confined spaces

The IQ is a brilliant design but spend a little more and you can purchase the simply stunning Yaris.
Granted its bigger than the IQ but not so much that you would notice the difference in town driving.
The Yaris is available in diesel which makes sense.
With the Toyota Aygo and so many other able city cars all which are cheaper than the IQ how does the IQ stand a chance longterm.
The Smart and the IQ are really different cars and shouldnot really be compared .

I hope they make a hot-hatch version of it. (which could be electric, if tesla can...)

They will, later in the year.
100bhp 1.33l, as used in the Auris.
