I dont know what you did...but i just finished my fx-r projector retro and they are NOWHERE near the same brightness here. Be forwarned future retrofitters.
@advtactics01 Well it could be that the camera shot it brighter then it is but it truly is bright, its running 55W DL50s and projector has a few mods too. not a straight up 35W installation.
what an awesome light beam :-) , I will do six projectors retrofit to my truck. 2 fx-r with 50w balast and 4 mini h1 with 35w . l will light the the city like nothing before.
No not at all, it looks no different then any other car with a nice foreground limiter... Thers a straight line in front of the car about 20ft away from the bumper and it gets brighter the farther you go.
In the video you may not see that because the camera does not show it as it really is.
@CateraMV6 Thats true but bulb spacing brought it closer to the bumper just below the hood line as seen from the driver seat... the as purchased configuration you could see the foreground near the hood line...
I bet those LEDS crapped out after 1 month. I installed that shit on my RAV4 and now I have to open my headlights assembly again. Cheap quality ebay shit
wicked set up man! I am planning to achieve a wide and far output but am newb to this retrofit scene. Do you think the FX-R Stage 3 Kit from The Retrofit Source with Morimoto 3Five ballasts and bulbs will produce similar output?
It should get FX-R projectors, and then any OEM bulbs, Philips or OSRAM, get them new if you can, then simply get a 55W ballast to run them. TRS is where I get all my stuff so you cant go wrong there.
You can put together a similar kit but no match for warranty or quality so safe bet to stick with TRS. Matt is your guy.
The set up I have is not that special its simply some rare parts but other then that you can achieve a similar output with what TRS offers. go 5Five ballasts.
Philips 85122? I kind of want 5000K/6000K haven't decided yet tho and Philips only come in 4300K. Would the Morimoto 5Five 50W ballasts be okay? Yes i've been emailing Matt lately and he's been extremely patient and helpful. Just kind of confused as to what kind of bulbs to use... Philips or Morimotos (D2S)
Sadly my friend there were only 6000 bulbs ever produced and their production ended almost 10yrs ago. whats left over is unused units and they are super hard to find, and cost at 200+/pair. I paid 250$ for my set. and that was 3 yrs ago, haven't seen any since.
A boosted Philips bulb 85122 is at 90% output of the DL50 but does produce a bit more heat and has a shorter life.
@CateraMV6 "Andreea Banica - Samba" It,s romaniam :D, Nice headlights, I also retrofit some bi-xenon projectors in my headlights but this are much better than mine...
The projectors are FX-R equipped with DDM 55W ballasts and Philips DL50 55W Bulbs...
OEM Systems produce around 3000lm/bulb these produce somewhere between 5300-5800lm/bulb whcih is a good 70-80% more light and you can imagine what that translates to when you apply it to the road...
@CateraMV6 I have these exact projectors retrofitted in my Jetta. I'm using Denso 35W ballasts with 5000k Morrimoto bulbs. Do you think I can upgrade my ballasts to 55W while still using the same bulbs? Would the light output difference be worth it?
@sqhschief It would defiantly be worth it. Now the question is why would you want those bulbs? If you change to phillips 85122+ you'll have more output but be more yellow. Now if color is worth extra money to you, you could get the osramcbi's a 5000k, and are as bight as the 85122+'s. Assuming you're running d2s sized bulbs.
@pearlxzildjian Yeah I have d2s, I actually have 6000k, and I don't care about the color temp if it's 4300k or 5000k is fine. So you're saying the phillips are brighter than the morimotos? I was saying I didn't know if you could use higher wattage ballasts with lower wattage bulbs.
@sqhschief phillips 85122/85122+ or osram cbi's would be brighter for sure. Also would fit the projector better (fx-r's tend to like phillips bulbs best). As these two brands are oem, they tend to be made higher quality as they must meet/exceed certain standards. You can make these bulbs higher wattage but it will shorten the life of the bulbs (HID bulbs loose a lot of lumens before they die. They should be replaced every year or two tops). There are bulbs made for 50/55W applications though
Yes you can your output will be increased the color will be slightly softened to a more yellow white and not a pure white but not as noticeable as you think... Biggest difference will be increased output!

Do the 55W projectors throw off to much light right in front of the car washing out the road?
