I showed this to a class I teach and the way they responded was amazing. Most of the kids live on a housing estate in western Sydney.....why the even cried...tough on the outside but soft on the inside....great movie

Think yourself lucky you don't have to deal with it, since its generally a lonely existance,(why the word gay is used - self irony) since most gay guys sadly are shallow and arrogant, unlike the two loving lads on this movie. Mama Cass was chosen because it's a message of love, which a few gay guys do desire.

Speaking from endless repeated experience, most gay guys treat each other like shit, (unlike these two) just go to a gay scene venue, or try dating online, almost endlessly rudely mucked about, stood up, teased, let alone find one for a good r'ship. And of course if you arent materialistic, high socio economic (white collar), or of one of the 'gay sterotypes', just a guy like any else who wants another guy.

True, but there seems to be a success rate though. I do take your point, and agree that sexual orientation shouldn't have anything to do with persona, or intellect, but honestly, from reg observations over 20 odd years, there consistantly does seem to be some real 'stereotypes.' For me, I'm just a guy who is attracted to another, I'm blue collar, not pickable as being gay. And I'm out, not wanting to make a fuss of it, but so people know who i am, sort of thing.
i used to play music in clubs and i found football players treat women like absolute dirt after they have had a few drinks or whatever there choice of party drug was,i think with the club scene it is more a result of intoxication than anything else,so i would imagine it to be no different in the gay scene,i must say i appreciate the gay man who has come out but doesn't rub it in your face,i think that is the next evolution in the gay scene,consider yourself one step ahead..cheers
Yes, I know where you are coming from there too mate, I don't have any time for those type of ppl either, or their football. What I've struck more than often over the years, I cross paths with a guy who's warm, friendly, DTE, and all other that appeals, he always turns out to be straight. I've noted that most of the gay guys I described, are polite as to stright friends etc, but at other times, to other gay guys.. Paradoxical but true. But of course, there are exceptions. Beutiful Thing using Mama Cass as soundtrack was a perfect match. I love it so much, I bought the DVD and even got the Script on EBay. Such a beautiful voice and great movie - together its among my faves.
This is my favourite gay themed movie of all time. It just says everything to me about coming out and the hassles that you go through. I am so glad there was a positive ending.
What I really love about this scene is Jamie's mums face towards the end, the look she gives to the viewing crowd. It says "what are you looking at?" "my son's dancing with the fella he loves, what the fuck's it gotta do with you, fuck off if you've got a problem with it" I love that, that's my mum, that's so my mum. This is my favorite film... and it bought the wonderful musical stylings of Mama Cass into my life... Jesus, this film should be part of the national curriculum.
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest final scenes that I've ever seen on film. The sheer power of the scene to convey everything that the movie was about with one dance. The ultimate expression that the guys had finally accepted themselves; that Jamie's mum had accepted them; and that they didn't give a fu## what anyone else thought. Brilliant.

This movie rocks so much, this scene is everything I wanted when I was their age, probably why I turn into such a sap when I watch this.
And to all you haters: This is love! How can you condemn that? Until you truly feel it maybe you're just ignorant to how wonderful it is. Theres still no need to try and ruin it for others.

Greatest gay themed movie that I have ever seen. Sound track was the best...Mamma Cass added great background music and Leah funnier than hell. Reccomend this movie to straights and gays.

Beutiful Thing using Mama Cass as soundtrack was a perfect match. I love it so much, I bought the DVD and even got the Script on EBay. Such a beautiful voice and great movie - together its among my faves.

This is my favourite gay themed movie of all time. It just says everything to me about coming out and the hassles that you go through. I am so glad there was a positive ending.

What I really love about this scene is Jamie's mums face towards the end, the look she gives to the viewing crowd. It says "what are you looking at?" "my son's dancing with the fella he loves, what the fuck's it gotta do with you, fuck off if you've got a problem with it" I love that, that's my mum, that's so my mum. This is my favorite film... and it bought the wonderful musical stylings of Mama Cass into my life... Jesus, this film should be part of the national curriculum.

In my opinion, this is one of the greatest final scenes that I've ever seen on film. The sheer power of the scene to convey everything that the movie was about with one dance. The ultimate expression that the guys had finally accepted themselves; that Jamie's mum had accepted them; and that they didn't give a fu## what anyone else thought. Brilliant.
