No matter what you think, this is an amazing story, with a unique heroine who I adore.
As a lover of films, I look forward to seeing David Fincher portray the rest of the films, it's interesting to see different adaptations of such an amazing story! :D
I just watched the american version of the first movie and O...M...G... What the hell is up with their stupid accents and that everything you read in the movie, the news etc is in swedish? It's so retarded. Everyone is talking english but everything around is swedish? It's so stupid I didn't know if I was gonna laugh or cry. And i'm so sick of the americans always wanting to americanize EVERYTHING. The swedish movie is better than the american version, by far.
I thought Noomi Repace's character was better. And I thought the Swedish version was better just by a nose.
I liked the contrast between the two lead characters more in the Swedish version. Noomi being a little more in your face and hardened and the journalist guy more of a wussy than Daniel Craig's character in the American version.
Also Finch the American director had a coldness and detachment in the feel and look of the movie.
@PJmusica Have to disagree on two counts there. It's not that Rapace's or Mara's acting was better than the others. I just feel that Mara's interpretation was more spot on. There's also the fact that Rapace just looks older than Mara, and in the books Lis was always described as a very young looking woman. I do however that casting Daniel Crag wasn't a very good choice. I always imagined Blom to look and act more like Larsson himself. Finch captured the atmosphere better than the swedish movie.
I like how everyone thinks the American film is a 'remake'. It is NOT a 'remake' of the Swedish version. They are BOTH entirely SEPARATE adaptations of the same books; the American version and Swedish version were never meant to be compared. Enjoy both for their unique points of beauty instead of comparing them and creating animosity. Both visions of Lisbeth by both actresses are superb. No need to keep bantering back and forth comparing like children over whose toy is better.
@LuxxInterior you have to understand, there are countless d-bags out there that feel more sophisticated if they slam anything that they consider to be "mainstream".
@LuxxInterior I think you are right about everything...except, it is a remake. The swedish version was first, same source material, so no matter how different the approach, it's still a remake. Other than that I agree.
@LuxxInterior Good one. Being an actress myself, I think Mara's version of who she thought Lis was , was more believable, in my opinion, almost all of the actors from the swedish adaption didn't seem as -seriously- sunken into their characters as much as they needed to be. ehh.
Noomi is beautiful no matter how she looks, and she played Lisbeth in a great mysterious way. But I can't help but love Rooney's portrayel. She gave Lisbeth an intensly dark aura surrounding her. Both played them in such great ways that each are fantastic in their own way.
From a true fan that can take both for what they are.
Not going to lie... I didn't think the Swedish adaptions were very good, but the hype around David Fincher's amazing adaption makes me want to watch the Swedish trilogy again.
Maybe I'll read the second & third books again, then watch the films after that.
@MadonnasMrDj I felt the same way when i saw the swedish version of tattoo. Not nearly as impressed as i was with the fincher version. Seemed like the crew (lighting, sound, music, director, etc.) were all more skilled overall.
I have an idea: If I were casting for Lisbeth's character - here is a list of maybe ten actors in no particular order, even if they may be tall or older: Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter's sister), Shirley Manson (Terminator TV series), Julia Stiles, Bridget Fonda, Milla Jovovich, Summer Glau, Natalie Portman, Kate Beckinsale, Rhona Mitra, Lady Gaga (think about it), Winona Ryder, Charlize Theron. I would just like to see what they would do with this role'.
All 3 Swede films (Tattoo-Fire-Nest) are on Blue-Ray offering the choice to watch in English or Swedish voice, and/or in addition if you like - the usual subtitle selections. I plan to watch ALL of the new Fincher franchise too. Because I saw the Swede versions first - three times each, (about 23 hours) I imprinted on that version. I only suggest watching all six. So far there are 4.
By about January 2014 - all Six should be completed and everyone should see all six and make up your own mind.
@VirusOfCyrus i totally agree with you, just a few days ago i learned about the dragon tatoo which is in theaters now. So im a bit confused to why these movies (2 and 3) were just out two years ago.

The film too, was so compelling - lots of symmetrical shots, so stylish, but so wonky in character! Need to see the next film as soon as possible!
@wh173thad i thought so too but the remake was pretty awseome. added alot more detail and background to the characters for someone just starting th series. Numi rapas is a way better Lisbeth but all in all the american reboot should be pretty awesome when its finishd
Both actresses were wonderful....but Fincher's movie is GREAT...He absolutely nailed it...every nuance...he captured every detail of Larson's books. The Swedish films were low budget, made for TV productions and in no way compare...but it's all good. Let's just hope Fincher et al get busy and make the other THREE...remember, Larson wrote the skeleton of a fourth book, which could be written into a screenplay. Let's hope!!
@haldonrichardson1 Fincher's movie kept me intrigated just like the first book!!!I hope there is a part 2 =D !!!!! Before that I swore I must finish the trilogy,Im currently reading part 1 still LOL
I don't think we should keep comparing Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara. They both did a fantastic job with uniquely different portrayals of Lisbeth, and both of their careers are taking off as a result.
@sarahkinzz I agree. I definitely preferred one performance over the other, but I agree that comparisons would be hard as both of them did a great job. :D
@sarahkinzz I think we should compare Noomi Rapace and Roony Mara only in the sense that they have really unusual first names that sound similar. Noooooomi.......Rooooooney.......
@specialagentomo Well, I think Lisbeth wasn't intended to be pretty by any conventional means. However, she is apparently attractive enough to have multiple sex partners.
In my mind, Lisbeth is very pretty, she just hides it, but hey, that's just my brain interpreting the writing. ^-^ And Rooney Mara is absolutely gorgeous by the way. Just had to put that out there.
I feel really bad for rooney mara, the new "Lisbeth" in the American movies. Filling in Noomi Repace's shoes is a very big job, and a lot of people are going to hate her for it, though it's not her fault Repace turned the job down cuz she saw it pointless to do the same gig twice. I say we cut Mara some slack, and give her a shot. (though it is a long shot, sorry)
Rapace looked like a 30-year-old women dressed as goth for Halloween. Although her acting is terrific, that is NOT Lisbeth as described in the book. In the book she is at one point describes as looking like a 12-year-old boy. Judging from the clips and trailers alone, Mara captures Lisbeth's vulnerability and true look much better. Can't wait to see what Fincher does with this.
@KillSwitch2 Mara's body structure and body language suits Lisbeth almost perfect; Rapace's face is far more suitable to lisbeth than Mara's. I just reread the book this week: Lisbeth's face is equipped with very high defined cheekbones, wide mouth, small nose, and almost has an Asian type look. If they fused the two together, they'd be near perfect.
Really starting to resent my own contrymen who can't enjoy a good movie because they're too stupid and/or lazy to read subtitles.
Find me a filmmaker and/or studio somewhere on Earth with backbone enough to say "No. This movie is perfect. Either watch it as it was intended by the artists who made it, or go without."

this movie was good int the sense that it was cool seeing people pay for what they did to that poor girl....BUT MY GOD IT WAS BORRRRING, no offense to anyone who likes the movies or books, but come on I'm so glad I was treated to this and didn't pay for it, the movie was also filled with old uptight looking people who probably like that sorta thing(not generalizing I'm sure others do) but defintely not a movie a late teen fancies as a weekend film to see, and no a move doesn't have to hollywood
@bluBlaq33 *doesn't have to be hollywood to be a good movie, I've seen great independent films with similar plots or more messed up ones with more going on, if you like inception this is your movie and or book, if not don't rent or buy it or do if you'd like who knows
@revlorphomelia i know right :/ his daughter said she could finish them, but the rest of his family said no. :| i love lisbeth (don't like this last film though, i loved the first, liked the second)
I find it amusing that they keep identifying Lisbeth with her tattoo in the trailers while they don't even mention it in the movies (dunno about the books though).
@maujo2009 Yeah, it's mentioned and seen in all three films. In this, it's mentioned, and in the two previous films, you see it very clearly. I think the filmmakers of this trilogy are expecting movie goers to know about the tattoos and about Lisbeth; they're expecting (I think) that the movie goers will have read or heard about the books, the latter being nearly impossible not to.
@maujo2009 The original swedish title for the first book and film is men who hate women so it doesn't really have anything to do with the tattoo, thats just involved in the cover art
man they cant just make an american trailer out of this movie. thrillers in sweden is very different from thhrillers in the US. swedish thrillers is far more realistic and less of an klishé. This trailer tries to make this movie look like an action filled stereoid pack full of explotions:P and trust me its not. the movie is great and all but this is just missleading
come on, last too movies of the original trilogy were not good at all. Lisbeth gets shot in the head, burried and few minutes later manages to escape her grave... not a cliché for you?
@TwiztedSound ive heard of a account of a guy getting a 4-5 inch drill bit stuck in his brain and walked to the hospital that was like 5 miles away holding his head, not THAT surprising
Still this is not that absurd due to the fact that brain has some parts which arent responsible for movement or conciousness. Nobody freaking escapes when being burried alive, and shot in the leg and the head, this is some stupid hollywood gene.
@TwiztedSound the drill bit went through his frontal lobe, the part that controls corditation, and almost cut his brain stem in half, humans are pretty fucking durable, hollywood is a bunch of bullshit but this is beleviable
holy damn, dont give me that shit, nobody is able to get out of the grave! Yes, sure coordination part was destroyed and he walked to the hospital, aliens helped him. gtfo.
@BigO161107 Yeah it's not a freakin' popcorn blockbuster. This trailer cheapens the whole trilogy. Although, I must say, the first one was still the best!
@BigO161107 untrue, if they take a indie thinking pattern (indie american movies=godlike) this could be cool, but im with you, the books and movies are fantastic(im american and i dont like the cliche american movies, i acutally like these types of movies) i just hope hollywood doesnt smear this series great name
@BigO161107 I know it says this is the English one but it's just the narrater. The actors are the same ones from the Swedish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
@LoverOfBeatles16 Dude, im swedish so im very aware that this is the swedish version. i posted that comment 11 months ago and i think that was before they announced that they were going to make an american re-make. my point were that this trailer make it seem like these movies are something that they're not. Like they are some action filled steroid trip. they just took all action scenes from all movies and put it in one trailer and made the hole thing misleading.
I know you wrote this a year ago and probably don't even remember writing it, but I just thought it was weird how you said the American thriller are "action packed" and this trailer literally shows more violence than the trailer that just came out for the American version. I just thought it funny.
Cain was the first man ever to strike down another... And when the Lord came to him and said 'What have you done?', Cain could not hide his crime. For the voice of his brother's blood... cried out from the very ground.

@revlorphomelia i know right :/ his daughter said she could finish them, but the rest of his family said no. :| i love lisbeth (don't like this last film though, i loved the first, liked the second)

I was playing World of Warcraft when I went downstairs to get some food, my mom was watching part 1 to this.
I stayed downstairs and watched them all.

I find it amusing that they keep identifying Lisbeth with her tattoo in the trailers while they don't even mention it in the movies (dunno about the books though).
maujo2009 8 months ago
@maujo2009 I thought at one point Mikael asks Lisbeth about it in the first film
Chay216 7 months ago
@maujo2009 Yeah, it's mentioned and seen in all three films. In this, it's mentioned, and in the two previous films, you see it very clearly. I think the filmmakers of this trilogy are expecting movie goers to know about the tattoos and about Lisbeth; they're expecting (I think) that the movie goers will have read or heard about the books, the latter being nearly impossible not to.
TheIlluminatus503 7 months ago
@maujo2009 The original swedish title for the first book and film is men who hate women so it doesn't really have anything to do with the tattoo, thats just involved in the cover art

Larson was genius....Numi Rapas is perfect Lisbeth..great movie, but books are the greatest.....Amazing

If you think Rapace is the perfect Lisbeth then you obviously haven't read the books.

@liimepva absolutely correct .i agree.great books and great movies ,but the hollywood version will be lame and rubbish.just my opinion.

With everything good that's been made in Sweden it's a shame our country gets placed on the map because of this shit.

man they cant just make an american trailer out of this movie. thrillers in sweden is very different from thhrillers in the US. swedish thrillers is far more realistic and less of an klishé. This trailer tries to make this movie look like an action filled stereoid pack full of explotions:P and trust me its not. the movie is great and all but this is just missleading
BigO161107 1 year ago 82
@BigO161107 yeah it would be nice to see a trailer for a film that does not have clips of the previous films in it
SerielThriller 11 months ago
@BigO161107 o.o Doesn't look exciting with explosions and crazy action scenes to me : /
CorruptedCorpseSaku 8 months ago
@BigO161107 they haven't made an american trailer, theres an option to watch a dubbed version of the film thats all they've done
nattyasha101 7 months ago
@BigO161107
come on, last too movies of the original trilogy were not good at all. Lisbeth gets shot in the head, burried and few minutes later manages to escape her grave... not a cliché for you?
TwiztedSound 4 months ago
@TwiztedSound
last two movies* sorry.
TwiztedSound 4 months ago
@TwiztedSound ive heard of a account of a guy getting a 4-5 inch drill bit stuck in his brain and walked to the hospital that was like 5 miles away holding his head, not THAT surprising
xxdomoxxkunxx 3 months ago
@xxdomoxxkunxx
Still this is not that absurd due to the fact that brain has some parts which arent responsible for movement or conciousness. Nobody freaking escapes when being burried alive, and shot in the leg and the head, this is some stupid hollywood gene.
TwiztedSound 3 months ago
@TwiztedSound the drill bit went through his frontal lobe, the part that controls corditation, and almost cut his brain stem in half, humans are pretty fucking durable, hollywood is a bunch of bullshit but this is beleviable
xxdomoxxkunxx 3 months ago
@xxdomoxxkunxx
holy damn, dont give me that shit, nobody is able to get out of the grave! Yes, sure coordination part was destroyed and he walked to the hospital, aliens helped him. gtfo.
TwiztedSound 3 months ago
@BigO161107 Yeah it's not a freakin' popcorn blockbuster. This trailer cheapens the whole trilogy. Although, I must say, the first one was still the best!
gt198gtr 4 months ago
@BigO161107 untrue, if they take a indie thinking pattern (indie american movies=godlike) this could be cool, but im with you, the books and movies are fantastic(im american and i dont like the cliche american movies, i acutally like these types of movies) i just hope hollywood doesnt smear this series great name
xxdomoxxkunxx 3 months ago
@BigO161107 This is the Swedish trailer
LoverOfBeatles16 3 months ago
@BigO161107 I know it says this is the English one but it's just the narrater. The actors are the same ones from the Swedish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
LoverOfBeatles16 3 months ago
@LoverOfBeatles16 Dude, im swedish so im very aware that this is the swedish version. i posted that comment 11 months ago and i think that was before they announced that they were going to make an american re-make. my point were that this trailer make it seem like these movies are something that they're not. Like they are some action filled steroid trip. they just took all action scenes from all movies and put it in one trailer and made the hole thing misleading.
BigO161107 3 months ago
@BigO161107
