The thermal unit is the heatsink ONLY best thing to do is replace the heatsink and fan yourself, be sure to install high quality thermal compound, it's the fan hitting against something.

F**k ACER!!! Their favorite line after I've sent the laptop in to them twice "Our tech support could not replicate the problem". IMPOSSIBLE!! This thing shuts off / reboots in under a minute. All they do is update the OS - really! Worse, most incompetent tech support ever. And now that the laptop is out of warranty they have the nerve to ask me to pay $199 for an extended repair. Acer is absolutely horrid. I will never purchase another Acer product. Acer REFUSES to fix it without paying an additional $99 plus shipping!!! A TOTAL waste of money for the computer and the extended warranty! Walmart warranty says acer is responsible for the first year. I will wait until January when the Acer warranty expires & try my luck with Walmart warranty

I bought an Acer laptop for $810. It just would not turn on after a few months. Called Acer support and they gave me a sequence of steps to get it turned on again. After a couple of months, nothing would turn it on again. So, I called support again and was told my 1 yr warranty was up. I reminded them of the trouble I had earlier and the same problem now exists...tough shit. I WILL NEVER TOUCH AN ACER PRODUCT OF ANY KIND...THEY HAVE A BAD REPUTATION ALREADY, i FOUND OUT!!!
Acer is horrible, and a horrible company. They replaced my $600 24" PMVA panel with a shitty $300 TN panel with horrible viewing angles after I RMA'd my panel TWICE. I called and complained and they shuffled me around from person to person until they said "well, 3 years ago $600 is only worth about $300 today so we can't really help you."

I have had the same experience with ACER twice. A highschool friend owns a small, local tech company and sells these POS. After using him, I have realized he wasn't really a friend because he also screwed me around. He would come out to "fix" them and basically run a free defragging program. Both of them had motherboards completely fry within six months of having them. The replacement motherboards did the same thing. By the time I paid him to replace those & services, I had tons invested.
Acer does indeed suck, but your fan has too much dust and junk in it. It happens to all computer fans, when they get heavy with dust they make that noise. The overheating is due to the lack of airflow from the dust. In the time it took to make this video and uploaded it you could have cleaned out your laptop.

it sounds like the bearings are shot. i have an acer aspire desktop, that came with windows vista. a few days ago, i wanted to upgrade it to windows 7. the instalation when't fine but right at the end, it gave me a bsod, and then it would still give me a bsod when ever i would try to boot. i thought the instalation didn't go well, but when i took the hdd and put it into my other pc, it would boot it just fine. so then i tryed putting windows vista back and it would still give me a bsod.
Lol 3 times in warranty service, if the fan was making that noise.. I just don't get it why they didn't change it.. I work in Asus and man we have like Thousands and Thousands of those fans in there.. I break like 2 every week.. :F

I got an acer in 2009 and it stopped woking, and I sent it in it came back and it worked only in safe mode, than I got a new computer (hp) and My mother bought me a new Acer for Chrismas (2500 she thought it would be good because it was expensive) well... the cd drive stopped working and than a month later the hard drive quit working, and So I sent it in last month and now they said that they had 90 computers with the same problemand I am going to have to wait atleast 2 more weeks for any result

Their PCs sucktoo. Mine decided to die a month after the 1 year warranty ran out. Acer said it was a motherboard problem (because it's cheaper for them to replace them than recall them, they used sub-standard motherboards). They said it would cost £200 to repair IF they managed to get more motherboards in. It wouldn't be so bad, but the PC was £200 to begin with.
that sound you was hearing is a failing hard drive cooling fan . The fans ROPM have dropped way down to slow to cool the system . ACER never even turned on or inspected your maschine . ( times out of 10 . they get a machine in to fix . if it comes on period they say nothing wrong with it charge em then send it back .

ACER SUCKS!!!!!!!! Go to Wal-Mart and check out all the demo laptops. You'll notice the Acer laptops have missing keys!!! That's a good example of how poorly they last over time. All the other brand laptops were fine. But all three demo Acers had multiple missing keys. A little hard to use a keyboard with missing keys wouldn't you say?! Imagine what else is wrong with them!
The "mouse" pad on my Acer Laptop is defective. I had to send my new laptop to the repair facility twice and though they did repair two OTHER issues with the laptop, the third issue ("mouse" pad) is still defective. I do not intend to purchase another Acer product. Poor customer service. Faulty product.

There IS a problem with your harddrive. If smart warns you you should replace the harddrive, you will not see a problem, but smart warns you that it WILL fail soon
when i got my acer it would stutter like crazy with videos and music playback. so I reloaded windows with a oem bittorent copy of 7 (because god forbid computer manufacturers actually give you an install disc like they used to.) and again stuttering. I ended up putting xp on it and bam no problems at all. I ended up dual booting xp and 7 for awhile before just tyring 7 again. then linux/7. All i can say is that problem shouldve never happened in the first place causign to me to do OS reinstall

I got an acer in 2009 and it stopped woking, and I sent it in it came back and it worked only in safe mode, than I got a new computer (hp) and My mother bought me a new Acer for Chrismas (2500 she thought it would be good because it was expensive) well... the cd drive stopped working and than a month later the hard drive quit working, and So I sent it in last month and now they said that they had 90 computers with the same problemand I am going to have to wait atleast 2 more weeks for any result

Their PCs sucktoo. Mine decided to die a month after the 1 year warranty ran out. Acer said it was a motherboard problem (because it's cheaper for them to replace them than recall them, they used sub-standard motherboards). They said it would cost £200 to repair IF they managed to get more motherboards in. It wouldn't be so bad, but the PC was £200 to begin with.

that sound you was hearing is a failing hard drive cooling fan . The fans ROPM have dropped way down to slow to cool the system . ACER never even turned on or inspected your maschine . ( times out of 10 . they get a machine in to fix . if it comes on period they say nothing wrong with it charge em then send it back .

ACER SUCKS!!!!!!!! Go to Wal-Mart and check out all the demo laptops. You'll notice the Acer laptops have missing keys!!! That's a good example of how poorly they last over time. All the other brand laptops were fine. But all three demo Acers had multiple missing keys. A little hard to use a keyboard with missing keys wouldn't you say?! Imagine what else is wrong with them!

The "mouse" pad on my Acer Laptop is defective. I had to send my new laptop to the repair facility twice and though they did repair two OTHER issues with the laptop, the third issue ("mouse" pad) is still defective. I do not intend to purchase another Acer product. Poor customer service. Faulty product.

when i got my acer it would stutter like crazy with videos and music playback. so I reloaded windows with a oem bittorent copy of 7 (because god forbid computer manufacturers actually give you an install disc like they used to.) and again stuttering. I ended up putting xp on it and bam no problems at all. I ended up dual booting xp and 7 for awhile before just tyring 7 again. then linux/7. All i can say is that problem shouldve never happened in the first place causign to me to do OS reinstall
