  • Yeah, this is certainly 150. Probably the users who didn't perceive this as 150, but 70 might have confused themselves with the illusion created by the zoom in conjugation with the angular velocity.

  • These machines are no joke they most certainly do run at 150 MPH they can almost blow you off your feet, please whoever denies this is completely crazy.

  • For you "skeptics" who skipped math and algebra class, THIS IS 150 mph. Stop saying otherwise. How bout you ask ME. an AMTRAK ENGINEER in training, who DRIVES the Acela.

  • Math lesson: Acela is 663 ft long. At 150mph, it takes 3.01 seconds to pass by. In this video you see the nose reaches the fence post (black blob at the bottom of the frame) at 0:30, and passes it at about 0:33 (use a stopwatch if you're picky). If it were only doing 90mph, it would take 5 full seconds to pass. Stay in school, kids!

  • @rymorymorymo Using those calculations that train would be going 150.68 mph.

  • Um. They wouldn't take that bend in the track at 50mph let alone 150mph. More like 35mph. That's dumb.

  • Maybe, just maybe, 150 KPH (90)...not MPH.

  • it crossed a switch its not going 150 you tool

  • @inyourfacedouchebag This IS 150 mph. Look up "Amtrak Acela" on Wikipedia or Google and you'll see that they both say the same, 150.

  • @trinityct theres no way there going to let a train blow through a stop at 150 MPH guy think about this i live in jersey and i kno the trains well they dont blow by stops on the line here and there one track off the stops but if you say so its going 150 MPH J O

  • @inyourfacedouchebag It is going 150 mph though. and there are multiple warnings that both an automated sensor gives (the train approaching please remain behind yellow line system) and often the station master warns passengers more than once before the train is even a mile away :) also, I'm sorry if I sounded rude btw, I was just fed up that people don't believe something that is actually true :P :/

  • Echt slimme jongens hiero.....

Of course the train wasn't moving at its cruising speed of 150 mph, it was passing a station. Trains tend to pass those slower.

  • Maybe... just maybe... 70 mph.

  • @JET997u This IS 150 mph. Go Look up "Amtrak Acela" on Wikipedia or Google and you'll see that they both say the same, 150.

  • The train was sure moving but like was said was not 150 was more like below 100 mph But was movin for where it was passing through from Newman

  • That was only about 60 mph. Thats fantastic for the US. we are soooooo behind in rail because we just love our imported cars. But the Gov't better build some new railroads or highways soon because they are all crumbling.

  • lol That was sexy.

  • The train says "Eat my steel dust you insignificant little village! I'm going to NYC and DC!"

  • There is a sharp curve before the train reaches the platform area, and if the train were traveling at 150 MPH, it would probably derail

  • 0:17 - 0:25 powerful..

  • @donjgatlin Sorry, didn't mean to sound so angry. It's this Youtube environment...know what I mean? I love these train videos.

  • @donjgatlin Can you read or what? I corrected myself. geeeez!

  • coculating ah fuck this party rock!!!

  • On my third viewing, I see that the original post was absolutely correct. The train begins to pass at 30.5 it completes passage at 33.5

That's 666 feet in 3 seconds. The train is indeed going 151 miles per hour.

It might look slower to some of us because we didn't take into account the actual length of the trainset at 666 feet.

Acela is amazing and the original person who posted this video is absolutely correct.

  • Comment removed

  • fool

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 I stand corrected. The trainset length is 666 feet long according to its specifications. Two power cars and six passenger cars. It passes in 4 seconds. The speed in this video comes out to about 114 mph. About twice what I had previously said. Darkwood was right.

  • @JetMechMA I tried another calculation. You are saying each car is 40ft long. I counted 8 cars(including front and the end). Speed= Distance/time.

Total length of train= 320ft. It traveled this distance in appx 3 seconds. So 320ft/3s= 40ft/s which is 27.27mph

    50ft per car. 400/3= 133.3ft/s = 90mph

  • @JetMechMA No way, that things quicky disappears in the horizon...

  • @JetMechMA there is no way that is only 68mph that is at least 110mph

  • @MrZkr123 Excuse me, but read the whole page. I retracted my statement.

  • @JetMechMA

I agree. The speed is likely closer to 60-70 mph. It only appears faster because the camera is zoomed in, followed by the very close proximity as it passes. That would also seem a more reasonable speed for even the fastest trains to travel through a station with unprotected passengers nearby.

  • @stewartx5 If you read the whole page you'll see that I corrected my first reply. (removed it now) Do the math. If the Youtube counter is accurate then the train passes in about three to three point five seconds. The trainset is 666 feet long according to it's specifications. That puts it at 151 miles per hour in this video.

  • @JetMechMA

Well, lets just say that (the higher speed) is not the impression it presents to me and leave it at that.

  • @stewartx5 Why argue? Why not simply do the math for yourself? If you're right, the numbers will prove it.

  • To slow this train -.-

  • @benjaminbostandzija 2255 is the train #

  • 150 mph is fine but still nowhere near the Eurostar or Thalys with top speeds up to 200 mph

  • it was 150Km/h .. which is 90 Mph like @SaradominNub stated.

  • 150mph my ass

  • he hauln ass!

  • this station should have guard rails.

  • If you say that is 150 then Surfliners go 150 by carlsbad village

  • I don't know why you in USA don't use the metric system like most countries around the world. I have to do a math operation to know how many kilometers are 150 mph.

  • @AndyGC100 its because we had to be different believe me it makes no sense to me but its just the way it is.

  • @AndyGC100 Because metric is for fags. That's why UK don't use it. What is the point of a distance that is calculated on the distance between Paris and the North pole? At least a yard is a human pace. Ask them why they don't drive on the correct side of the road.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw an Amtrack going faster

  • I have heard that in most countries they are gonna start lowering the speeds of high speed trains because it is more fuel efficient to run them slower how slow idk

  • @MrZkr123 Fuel efficient? XD

  • German ICE 3 is faster

  • @DominikTHFan12 NO SHIT.

  • @DominikTHFan12 read 150 mph are i think 320 kmh and the ice drives only 200kmh!!!

  • @11223344253 the german ice 3 drives 320 km/h. AND ICE3 drives international (Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, France and 2013 England). Acela Express -> 150MP/H = 241KM/H. ICE3 -> 199MP/H = 320KM/H

  • @DominikTHFan12 But i live in austria and my dad drives with that train every weekt to Munich, cause of buissnes, and he tell me that it only drive 200kmh? i dont know perhaps youre right :D

  • @11223344253 yoo nix du danken^^

  • about 90 mph you fat useless american cunt

  • @ITSNOSHER Ahh yes...more British jealousy....why dont you just move to america if you love it so much. And you call Americans fat, yet somehow the fattest person in the WORLD comes from your pathetic little island.

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 our island isn't pathetic, but still there is a higher percentage of obese people in britain than the US so i dont know what he was on about. bbut seriously dude, dont mock our island - its all we have.... :P

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 Hey man, I had respect for you! Just because some british people are dicks like whoever it is that has pissed you off, but no need to slate the entire country! Every country has twats, dont blame the country for it! Our trains are cool and so are yours, jeeze!

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 As a born American who is also English and has lived in Europe I must say that the USA is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to trains. This train was not traveling 150MPH. Americans endure the longest commutes, the least benefits, the least free time, hence they are on average the least traveled and lead the least interesting lives. You see Europeans (Brits to a lesser degree) live life as it comes in a balanced way, while Americans must struggle for retirement.

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927

Hes right and that pathetic little island is America's biggest ally so dont talk trash

  • @hegofinr It is pathetic and I will talk trash. Those fat brits think they are all that and a cup of tea.

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 Fuck you Amtrak the UK trains are much sexier than these gay looking trains. Look at the 221 and 390 and at least we have amaazing names for our trains instead of Acela WTF?

  • @LondonMidlandCity Hey buddy, how bout you 1. GET OFF MY CHANNEL. 2. GO FUCK YOURSELF. AND 3! I DONT GIVE A SHIT YOU BRITISH PIECE OF FOAMING SHIT......As you idiots over in England, "GOOD DAY!"

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 Hey Why you Americans giving us all the shit when we thanked you loads for killing a smelly bastard Bin Laden. I like america its funny and a great country to live in. Id love to come over and live in America we just don;t have the money.

  • @LondonMidlandCity Bi polar much??????

  • @ITSNOSHER Sorry guys, this train is not doing more than 60mph.... Here, in my country the ICE goes 180+mph, and the Maglev does 300mph... When you see it at top speed for the first time it is awesome.

Obama is right, you've got to get some high speed rail transport in the US. Even 150 is nothing nowadays.

  • @DeVizardofOZ agreed britain doesnt have too fast trains but britain isnt very big and doesnt really need it

  • @ITSNOSHER nice try its between 135-150mph so sush

  • @MrZkr123 bollocks

  • wtf.. This is not 150mph... This is a pretty normal speed for a regular high speed train. Nothing special about it..

  • u can hear the sonic boom when it passes the camera

  • I've been to the Kingston station many times and I can assure you the Acela will go through the station at 150 mph. There are some occasions the train will go faster than 150 but it's usually the last train of the night that's heading north to Providence and then to Boston.

I've meet people from all over the country who visit Kingston just to experience the Acela. Nice job on all your videos! Thanks for sharing them!

  • @LoneNutter1 acela express consists do not go any higher than 150 so yeah

  • @tflynndawg13 What ever you say.

  • @tflynndawg13 This appeared in an article from the "Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers" in May of 2000. Here's an excerpt you may find interesting;

"Top speed for Acela Express will be 165 miles an hour; the French TGV approaches 200 miles an hour. Amtrak says the Acela Express is aimed at business travelers and that it will cut half an hour off the current three-hour Metroliner trip between Washington and New York..."

Why don't you contact them and inform them of their error?

  • @LoneNutter1 No need. You are reading pre-launch publicity for the Acela. It's capability is not exploited on the N.E. corridor line despite huge investment, you cannot make a 19th century line like that HSR capable. The top speed of the Acela IN SERVICE is 150mph and this only on a tiny portion of the track. The AVG speed is around 80mph! The TGV in contrast CRUISES at 200mph on dedicated HS Lines. This is the investment needed in the US to enable HSR.

  • @kenjryker I'm not disputing the data on the TGV. That was never an issue and why you're bringing it up is a mystery to me.

I'm stating the fact that an independent publication stated the Acela is capable of reaching 165 MPH. Granted, there are only a few locations on the east coast corridor where the train will reach 150 MPH. I find it hard to believe they would have installed a mechanical restriction where the train would not be capable of reaching 165 MPH.

  • 150 mph? lol......railfag XDDD ur 17 ur just a dumb foamkid that likes to be dramatic to get more video views go jerk off inside a K5LA

  • thats no where near 150mph because south shore goes about that fast and their speed limit is 79mph.

  • 90mph at most!

  • that's an awesome view of the train closing in.

  • That ain't no 150 mph.

That's now 6 minutes you owe me.

  • tvm -shornur VENAD express in Kerala India does it frequently. Its news only if a train crosses 400km/hr

  • OK here's something to confirm AmtrakFanNEC927's claim about the speed limit here. Now, each passenger car is 85 feet long. 3 passenger cars went by in one second, that means that the speed is 150 mph. I've been there, and the speed limit IS 150 mph. No tricks, no lies about the facts, that is the REAL speed. 150 mph!

  • whoa it didn't look like it was going that fast until it started 2 pass, wow that thing is a rocket on rails!

  • Based on train length in feet and time in seconds passing the platform edge, the speed is about 115 mph +/- 5%.

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 What does that mean?

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 You're fucking stupid. All you did was film and guess the speed.

  • @ZTOID For someone who rides this train frequently and knows several conductors I think, I WOULD Know, what the speed of this train is through this location. So you my friend, are STOOPID

Go fuck yourself and shoot up some more. POS

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 Slightly stoopid ;)

Not stoopid enough to judge people on their descent.

Cheers, enjoy jerking off on trains.

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 ok, but that still doesnt touch the fact you are obviously stupid :/

  • @darkwood777 I'm not sure how you count, but I see it takes 3 whole seconds for the train to pass. Which is in fact 150 mph, considering the train has a length of 663 feet.

  • @darkwood777 Agreed, around 115-125mph but definitely not 150. And I'm not getting in to who is the dumbest or fattest. I'm an Aussie and we don't care as long as you leave us alone :-)

  • @darkwood777 So it's really only about 125-130 MPH. You should change the title.

  • @darkwood777 Yep, that thing is going fast. See how quickly it seems so far away.

  • thats going about 80 - 90 mph, thres no way that is 150mph...

  • LOL! By the time you pan, it's WAY down the line.

  • Can trains get derailed in the snow if too much snow gets packed under the wheels - OR is the weight of the train sufficient to 'squash' any amount of snow under it. What about leaves in autumn? I remember always having to wait at the station due to 'leaves on the track' Does it take a lot to actually derail a train or are they as safe as they look. I think I stil prefer the old steam trains I saw all the time when I was little - something really dreamy and relaxing about those old engines.

  • Using the length and time it took to pass to work it out, it's doing approx. 110mph

  • If you compare to this one, i think these are real 150mph

    youtube.com/watch?v=_jpDR1WC2G0

  • Nice. Trying to head up there one day.

  • Zoltan Bebto from Hungary,Europe.

  • What a lousy photographer.

  • Sheesh!

  • not 150 ,, but C YA

  • lol at the end it says trains approaching after its long long gone lol

  • its funny how that train can go 150 there but here in jersey it can only go 125 i mean jersey does have a local and express tracks but i guess due to a high volume of travel it can only go that limit also nj transit shares the amtrak line with the NEC and NJCL

  • @retroguy1976 South of Penn Station the catenary system can only handle up to 125 mph. They rebuilt the system north of NYC just for the Acela. The rails themselves could handle 150mph along the entire DC-Boston stretch. HOWEVER, even if the wiring was updated....you are right, the NEC through Jersey is far too busy I would guess for 150mph Acela service even though it is mainly a straight shot.

  • I heard about the Amtrak will go 220MPH, is that true?

  • @JElyons100 The Acela has a top speed of 150 mph.

  • I finally took a visit there yesterday but i could only stay for 10minutes because i was looking at URI. We saw one Amtrak train when we arrived so we saw it leaving the station. Great Video! I was hopeing to see a 150mph Acela but it wasn't my day!

  • That was about 120-125 at a guess. Station is poorly designed and layed out. Platforms need to be wider - serious risk of an accident when they're that narrow, and posts, poles and obstacles need to be ripped out and moved to the back.

Correct build design would be to have a wider station with lines down the middle for passing trains.

  • it was around 90mph not 150 >.>

  • @SaradominNUB yea, you think that.

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 you have quite a chip on your shoulder

  • @AmtrakFanNEC927 I'm told it accelerates to 150 MPH after that slight curve, so it's fast. Another video shows a radar detector clocking this at 148 MPH at this same station.

  • Comment removed

  • @SaradominNUB Not to be rude but its around 140mph, trust me it wasn't going 90mph

  • @SaradominNUB yea it was about 150

  • @SaradominNUB 90 my ass. Thats thing is moving real quick.

  • @SaradominNUB Yes, I believe that. I don't think it could take that little jog to the left at 150 without derailing.

  • @SaradominNUB That was more than 90 mph. You can estimate the speed of the train by calculating the time it takes to pass a fixed object. If it takes 3 seconds to pass a fixed object it's traveling at 150 mph.

  • @SaradominNUB lol 150 in the US?? hahah that wont happen for a while xD 90 is more believable

  • @FlightX101 Do the math yourself then. Show your work.

  • @JetMechMA i not saying 90 is the exact speed of the train but for the safety of the people on the station, I cant imagine the acela blasting past there at maximum speed.

  • @FlightX101 I hear what you're saying. It's hard to believe that they run a train that fast through the station with people standing right there track-side.

  • holy shit i remember i stoped at every crosing in ct just like the schoolbusses cause they didnt blown there horns in my neighbor hood and i lived right by the palmer st crossing if the gates failed oh god

  • Thast only about 120, maybe less. AND your freight trains still get priority over passenger trains, WHY?! to me thats stupid. you cant get from one side of the country to the other on a train without it taking DAYS anymore.

  • soooooooooo fast wooow that is Nice

  • that is NOT 150mph

  • If not 150, what the speed?

  • If they did a test trip of 3 hours and 2 minutes, then why not do it now.

  • @JElyons100 Thats what I was thinking. But 3 hours and 2 minutes is the same as track speed today if you made no stops at all between boston and new york.

  • 150 MPH is pretty fast but nothing to compare to European High Speed Rail System. Their speeds are about 175MPH and especially the AVE train, the Spanish Train, that goes up to 187MPH. Don't you see that Amtrak has not improve yet. They promised for 3 hours trip from Boston to NYC but never happen. I guess that they broke the promise.

  • The did not break their promise, I have a buddy who works for Amtrak and he told me what the politicians and the unions are doing is very unproductive. Its them not Amtrak... its a shame. We should be the best when it comes to trains.

  • I thought so that the politicians are doing nothing for Amtrak. Of course, it is a shame. They need to wake up since it is 21 century. Also, the Amtrak stations in anywhere in US need to have the face lift since the stations are fallen apart and too old for 21 century. Do you aware that there are the project going on with the stations?

  • No... Im not sure bud.. Sorry... If I hear anything I'll let you know!

  • Actually they did a test trip when they first got them that did the trip in 3 hrs. 2 min.

  • The HHP-8 is rated for a max speed of 125 MPH. It pulls Northeast Regionals and Long-distance trains only.

  • First: I don't think this is at 150mph. It may seem FAST as you are standing 2ft. from the platform edge. .. 60mph (?) near a station. Second: In order for Acela to get its own tracks, it would have to be elevated rails (a bridge) above existing tracks as land aquisition in populated areas is the biggest cost to transportation systems. It is possible and should be examined as a solution. Just think, the curves could be banked...it would be like a ride at Six Flags with beverage service!

  • @RogerSales 60mph? Seriously dude? You need to get your eyes checked.

  • Hi Roger. I can tell you from my own experience working these trains that there is a 135 MPH curve about 3/4 mile north of the Kingston station. When the Acelas accelerate out of that curve, they reach about 147-148 by the time they reach the station. By the time they're about a train-length past the station it's up to 150.

  • @RogerSales the station has been controversial on the express route. The station is only 2 track in the middle of the 150 corridor. the 150 mph zone has become a local issue. Acela does have its own track in many location. if you ride the lines on the track you will notice a concrete set of ties on the line Acela travels on as opposed to the wood set. The wood depresses more into itself than the concrete as trains pass over.

  • Awesome video! 5/5

  • Well, as my opinion, Acela Express is also amazing, a brilliant high speed railcar

  • @isamemasaki

which is no surprise, its made by the same folks who make the french TGV

  • All over Europe trains run at up to 180mph. It is normal. A slow train is one that tops out at 100mph.

  • @gedebage Yes, but the USA is not Europe.

  • @gedebage dude not all trains go up to 180 here in holland the cant get that speed only a few trains can

  • The way I see it, some areas of the US aren't as densely populated as the NEC and California. So they can't afford to build a new ROW for 200 mph trains. But it's easy enough for those areas (such as the northwest) to upgrade to 150 mph at least

  • I wish the Northeastern governnors would finally create a separate system for Acela, so that it can commute way faster than today!

It seems to be a cronical prblem in the Northeastern Corridor. Everone maintains, but nobody wants to reform the transit system. Sad. I'm from Germany and separate systems are great.

  • Maybe Obama can move them to invest in a real high speed rail.

  • yes good call. but do you mean. the acela should use its own track. i think it would be great.

  • Exactly. Every high speed train in Europe and Asia uses its own track.

  • i wish we had it in the usa.

  • If you tell Obama to reform the transit system, his answer would be - I am fucked up reforming the health care system, immigration, economy etc and you are talking about rails? Get the fuck out of here.

  • @indianrailwaysExpanded high speed rail was one of his campaign promises. He's not a child - he knew the difficulties when he made that promise. His party have total control of all 3 branches of government. No-one to blame but themselves if they can't make it happen.

  • @foneill9 I was JK friend !!!

  • @indianrailways That's what I thought and it was a funny comment - very well put! But in fact it's probably true as well

  • One thing about the Acela's: They have the nicest-sounding horns of all High-speed trains.

  • i have to say that is a nice vid and train!! 5/5 stars

  • agreed very nice video

  • isn't that kinda dangerous to have a train going that fast when there is a bend in the track just a few hundred feet from the station? i really don't know much about trains so i'm probably wrong but it seems dangerous

  • It's probably one of those curves engineered for high speed. Besides, it's a quick bend, not a long curve. You do have a point though.

  • this is the only high speed train we got...and all those other countries have one going through almost every city...and we only have one in washington D.C...wow...i love this train but we need some high speed trains in the rest of the states too..not just one

  • i was on the southbound
