I would rather have more waste fraud and abuse, more bridges to nowhere, in return for the total abolition of social security, medicare, and medicaid. That would reduce the welfare state than the trite GOP line that they do nothing about anyways. Everyone know earmarks are wasteful, but the real enemy courageous politicians should attack is middle class entitlements that make most of America a nation of welfare queens. He was saying that earmarks make up 1% of the federal budget, a penny on a dollar. The bridge to nowhere was an earmark. His comment was lets talk about cutting the real spending not earmarks (1%).

You've completely missed the purpose of such an argument. The fact of the matter is that the federal government has no right to support or condemn abortion, so to allocate federal money towards it is unconstitutional. If Zimmer is willing to blatantly violate Article I Section 8 there is no telling what other wasteful and unlawful expenditures he will vote for and sponsor.
