College has gotten more expensive because of the gouging and monopolizing done by school administrators and their attorneys. These so called non-profit schools have presidents making $4,000,000 per annum.
The colleges mostly function as an oligopoly, making students buy things that are not necessary for quality education.
There are two colleges, Thomas Edison State College and Excelsior, that have open admissions, few mandatory lectures, and just notes and tests. They offer an impressive quality for rock-bottom prices. We need 100 more of these colleges.
Also, keep in mind, the reason that working class kids didn't go to college in the old days wasn't mainly economic, it was social. College had little professional value from its academic substance; the advantage was all networking.

One detail some of you may have missed was that that statistic only represented the Republican candidates. @tadhg964 Problem is there are a lot of schools that have a ton of money and seem to not utilize it to help students out. A university is like a business just like anything else, exchanging a service for goods. If you make them financially competitive then you can actually help the students. This is not to say the state government can't provide loans, but maybe the federal government should be removed from this process.

One detail some of you may have missed was that that statistic only represented the Republican candidates. So yes I can concede that the other republican candidates are pretty terrible, but that doesn't mean they are our only option for 2012. @tadhg964 Problem is there are a lot of schools that have a ton of money and seem to not utilize it to help students out. A university is like a business just like anything else, exchanging a service for goods. If you make them financially competitive then you can actually help the students. This is not to say the state government can't provide loans, but maybe the federal government should be removed from this process.

This self evident come to Ireland, you'll ave a great time, we even consume more alcohol per/pop than any other country in the world, you'd assume this would result in more violent crime but no it one of the safest place to live in the world.
