  • just did a complete 4 day fast which is a record for me and had no trouble doing sprints and pushups. I definitely lost fat and gained muscle which I forgot I had. The key to fasting is to be outside preferably in the woods and away from any smell of food. Being stuck inside is just not going to do it. I wanted to go for 5 days but terrible weather impacted me negativelly and I stayed inside and succumbed to food

  • Im trying it ancestor status! haha everything goes back to your ancestors health wise ! everything they used was from earth naturally .. an they didn't always have food , when your body doesn't have food it takes your body fat to burn as energy !

  • ive had this habit since i was a kid because of my parents and if theres a way to show it I will that i had a 6 pack since i was 12. my dad always used to tell me that it was better to go to my soccer games with my stomach empty so i could be more awake. since i was a kid ive preferred to excercise on an empty stomach

    maybe yeah were all different but maybe if you make your body to get used to it you could see changes dont you think its better to be used to function on little food?just an opinio

    The Ramadan fast is a fracking joke! Everybody GAINS weight during Ramadan AND suffers indigestion because they pig out and stuff themselves at the Iftar dinner. The no-water restriction is brutal torture (for those who actually observe it) especially in a hot climate so basically nothing much gets done in the entire Muslim world for that whole month!

  • Too all the people who think you can drink water while fasting... YOU CAN'T, IT WILL BREAK YOUR FAST, You shouldn't be drinking or eating ANYTHING while fasting.

  • @Joynalm123 that depends on what type of fast you are doing. A fast can be as simple as refraining from eating a particular food or group of foods for a week, not necessarily a hunger strike.

  • What happens if you do both at the same time?

  • What about energy levels during fasting and trying to workout? I find that I have to strip down at least 20% of the my regular workload in order to complete all sets and reps in my workout program, is this okay? For example if my I usually bench 5 sets of 8-10 reps with 225 lbs. I typically only have enough energy, when fasting, to use 180 - 185 pounds. Is this normal?

Most people fast for around 7 to 9 hours every day, even the fattest person sleeps, often fat people sleep more, you know how you feel in the morning, you can't sleep your self thin in the same way you can not think your way thin.   • @frosted1030 Eat Stop Eat is an 18 - 24 hour fast. It is backed up with a ton of medical research - Pilon, BTW, has a degree in applied human nutrition. Go talk shit somewhere else.

  • @mojitobanana the one and only way that you could gain weight after your 10-day fast is if you eat so much that you start to undo the progress you made with the fast. The trick is to start eating again normally, without overeating. And anyway once you complete a 10-day fast, when you finally eat on day 11 you won't be able to fit anything more than an apple into your stomach. Don't try to overeat after a long fast, you will only end up vomitting (trust me).

  • @lhsfootball978 fasting means zero calories. It doesn't just mean not chewing on something (food). If you consume a drink that has 30 calories, then you are no longer fasted. The whole point of fasting is avoiding calories, not physical food.

  • I am proof that this works. I have been researching on Fasting and working out for a while. Just make sure you dont have any medical conditions before the fast and if you, make sure to research it to see if its healthy. I would recommend people to do their own research instead of asking a doctor. Health industry are very evil scum bags.

    its very simple cortisol does not waste muscle tissue or make u fat anything close to what the public wants you to believe .look at fighters bodies.these guys do battle with each other and think about how their opponent wants to crush their skull in for months every day 24 hours a day b4 the match.if cortisol makes u look like garbage then these ppl would have the worst bodies. and cops and firefighters and millitary. there is a big diff between talk and facts. use ur eyes not ears

  • STOP THE EXERCISE if you just want to loss weight, do what i did. It just migth work for you too. but check with ur DOCTOR FIRST. ~~~ weigh ur self FIRST buy a protien shake 5lb (BIG SAVINGS) make 5 shakes to drink for the whole day (Every 2-4 hr) . IN THE BLENDER ARE : 1 water or juice or milk 2 yogurt -LOTS 3 banana or fruits 4 5 scoop of protien - for 5 servings now ur body will react to this change so dont be surprise, do this for a month then weigh your self AGAIN -YOUR WELCOME

  • Brad, are you recomending this to people that are trying to loose weight only? Your response to "hellokatter" said it wouldn't make much difference even though they were speaking about weight training. I can't see how the fasting stage would help increase muscle mass/endurance since you are not providing the nutrients needed for muscles to repair themselves during a fasting state. If ones goal is to loose weight I can accept this though I still believe eating is better than fasting. (continued)

  • a few years ago a friend of mine fasted , only taking water in for sixty days. He went from 320 down to 170 at a height at 6'. He has kept the weight off and is in great shape. He lives a healthy lifestyle i.e. no cigs , few starches,..... . AT the end of his fast he started working out with no problem. Pound for pound he is one of the strongest men I know. Before he was not that strong. It appears the fast strengthened him not weaken him - I was there as an observer throughout the fast.

I'm on my 7th day of fasting and have exercised for the last two days, mostly stretching, bodyweight exercises, walking and mini trampoline, really not much at all though as I want to conserve energy. I am worried however that my muscles will waste quicker during my fast if I exercise. If your friend did exercise, how did it effect him during the fast?

  • @MountainQueen I recommend you look at LeanGains to get an idea of exercising and fasting. The guy who came up with the program suggests that you fast and then you exercise right before you break your fast. Like, follow Brad's eat stop eat program here for 24 hours, but in the last hour of the fast you engage in vigirous physical activity so that when you're done exercising you will then break your 24 hour fast to give your muscles protein and other nutrients. Excelent way to burn fat fast.

  • @billoakesattablthree I think that is absolute horse shit. To say your "friend" fasted for 2 months taking in only water is such a bunch of shit. He literally ate no food? Trust me he would NOT be stronger after 2 months of no food. He would be chronically deficient in so many areas of nutrition it would take 6 months to restore his health, let alone to start working out. Unless you have proof, I call BS.

I will begin and end with this response , you need to learn to read and with a critical eye. Never ever did I say he came out stronger after 2months of fasting - I said he started working out after 2months of fasting and became very strong pound for pound. When he started his fast he was in his 20s with no health issues , though overweight. He went from 320lbs down to 190lbs.

  • You need calories to burn, otherwise, it's useless exercising.

    Stick with either one. You can't do both.

  • @MarauderRaine Calories (energy) are taken from the fat stores in your body which means you CAN do both.

  • Yeah, but there's some fat that your body needs to hold on to, otherwise it goes into an emergency mode. You'll feel weak and tired if you do exercise, 'cause your body is acting like it'll never eat again, and it doesn't want to lose the fat. I definitely wouldn't chose to exercise while fasting.

  • I wonder if you red "The miracle of fasting" by Dr. Paul Bragg. Basically, this is how he lived his life. He had many followers all over the world in the 70's and 80's. l hope you can convince some people that fasting does wonders, not only for weight lose but energy levels go high and you feel great. This is the way we should all be living.

    I want to do this to get rid of waste and toxins, but afraid to gain weight after it. Since fat retains toxins, you know.

  • I agree with funkinatrix--my workouts on a totally empty stomach are better, both in how I feel and how I perform. It feels silly now to think it necessary to eat a protein bar or something before going to the gym.

  • thanks for the info brad. i'm finding my (intense) workouts unhindered by fasting. in fact, i like working out on a totally empty stomach, its very comfortable. no energy bonks at all.

    every other day fasting not really working for me.. i'm fasting every day until 2 or 3, and then doing one or two longer ones a week. really loving it so far!

  • Hi Pirata,

    The best part is you don't have to do them at the same time! you can get the benefits from both by doing each a couple times during the week.

    You don't need to be fasted while exercising. It doesn't hurt, but it's not needed.
