  • I'd never heard this before... It's wonderful, but I think Mozart's expresses Servilia's directness and simplicity as a character better.

  • I like this a lot better than Mozart's actually- it would be cool if someone would insert this into Mozarts version- cause the one he composed is too slow, like the Vitellia's after it- It would be nice if Vitellia's slower aria was juxtaposed with this faster aria... while Mozart's version is extremely beautiful this one serves the plot a lot better and adds a lot of urgency to the already urgent scene and adds a lot of drama- plus Sandrine is wonderful as ever :-)

  • I agree, with this aria the point goes to Gluck. Out of other arias where direct comparison is possible Mozart clearly wins the Parto, parto "contest" others are more or less comparable. Gluck's arias seem simpler but one has to remember that he was writing in Galant style opposed to Mozart's High Classicism.

    Actually, I think I like Gluck's 'Tardi s'avvede' more than Mozart's too.

Btw, I've actually managed to acquire a full version of 'Se altro che lagrime'. I'll let you know when I post it.

  • Beautiful!!!, but is sad the cut of the B section =(

  • There are at least to more recordings of this work somewhere out there but I didn't manage to find them. At least two more arias deserved to be posted as much as anything I actually did post.

  • I ment "two more"

    *sigh*

  • Sadly it's only the A section here, I didn't post other so badly cut pieces but I'm going to make an exception here just to make a comparison with Mozart's setting. Mozart is no doubt beautiful but this one here serves the drama much better.
