U.S.Gold had a bad reputation because they had so many licensed games that were actually piece of S***, but there were also good games too, Ocean was another one which had awful reputation but now ocean loader musics are classic.
listening to all theses songs, your bassist needs to die, either that or tell him to turn his god damn bass down, cos that is the main thing i heard. yet i saw upwards of 2 guitars... some thing is wrong with that. rad band though, good bassist, but the music isnt what the bassist can play or do, it's all of it... the bassist jsut has to shut up :D
i thought outrun was decent enough for the time and incidentally,c64 buggy boy was faaaar superior to the better looking but shit controlling amiga version.

the c64-version sucks! and so does the amiga-version. Out Run has to be played on the arcade-machine or on the Sega Saturn, the Genesis-version is good too.
were you around in the 80's and 90's? Did you know what it was all about? Games would come out in the arcades then they would be programmed onto the home computers by big software companys such as U.S Gold in this case.
The technology was NO WHERE NEAR as what it is today, most of them were excellent attempts. Comparing an 8 bit to a coin op just defies common sense!
none of the coin op conversions had true elements when programmed for home computers, and isn't it obvious why? comparing 8 bit to 8 bit is one thing, comparing them to higher technology is just silly.
And when did i fail to see that many 8 bit games were actually good?
I think Out Run was one of the best conversions I played back then on the C64 :)Sure no where near the Original, but good on it's on ! Same to Space Harrier ! And the Music was just great on the C64 ~
your basically saying that computers should not have got licences to replicate coin-op games.
If an 8 bit game is inferior to a 16 bit game then there is no point commenting about it not being as good because it is to be expected, if an 8 bit game is better than a 16 bit + game then yes there is a point to comment about the 8 bit conversion being better.
All i can say there was a few decent conversions of OUTRUN, and the fact you mentioned the AMSTRAD CPC version youve answered your own argument, the CPC version is rubbish probably the worst OUTRUN conversion ever made (even worse than the commodore 64).
The Spectrum 128k and the PC ENGINE version of outrun was arguely the best, the amiga and atari st versions were pretty poor, as was the c64.
Test Drive was still the better game :P

ACtually I have to agree with this.
While the C64 version stands as a good C64 game, it has absolutley nothing on the Saturn or Arcade version.
masterofoutrun 4 years ago
well thats probably because the c64 was an 8 bit and the saturn was a 32 bit, and of course the coin op's going to be the best

I still don't see why you'd even attempt to port a mammoth arcade powerhouse to an 8-bit computer...
It just defies logic...

Your point being?
If I was SEGA, I wouldn't have wanted a brand being tarnished by such crappy conversions.
Look at CPC, etc.
All shit, even if it was because of technological limitations it is no excuse.
If you can't do it sucesfully. Don't do it.

First of all how old are you? if you weren't a part of the old computer gaming generation then don't comment.
If you don't see the point then you are just ignorant. Should they of just not made any games for home computers?
Comparing a saturn version to an 8 bit is just retardish, its like comparing a bicycle to a car.
rainxxxx 4 years ago
No, you fail to see that, many 8-bit games were actually good.
8-bit outrun, was not.
It had none of the elements that made OutRun, OutRun.
If a game claims to be OutRun, surley it should be able to be compared to other versions of the game of which it claims to be?
Also, cocks.

Jesus, was the CPC version worse than the 64s? damn , that must have been bad... :( least the SID gave some good damn music...

CPC version was ok. The Atari ST version was rank.
Only good driving game for CPC 464 was Chase HQ, and maybe LeMans by Knomi/Ocean.
