Well, english it´s not my natural languaje, so please excuse me if I don´t express myself well. I think that this song talks about the terrible feeling of being always seemed by other persons, when they just want to have the pleasure of critizice our way to live, to feel, to be.

They´re just spies, looking for us, killing us; taking our right to be free. Strong metaphore. It´s just my opinion.

My, english, either, is a little bad, but I continue your opinion: that songs tells, that somebody is going out with his loved-one, and on the other side there is the girlfriend, who throw spies after them, and by the end, the man is resigned, that he lose his girlfriend, but he win his loved-woman "there's just spies..." :)

Mellow and Soothing, "Spies" is a real gem demonstrating the lush musical qualities Coldplay possesses. The lyrics are very colorful and descriptive, brought to life tenderly by the strong vocals of Chris Martin. His ability to interchange between regular voice and falsetto is impressive and helps a great deal to enhance the quality of their songs. I like that the songs make you relax but also think and question things. The drum/percussion work especially stands out. Overall, well put-together!
