What an incredible mind this man had! To see these images in his head and transfer them to a canvas...things that no one could imagine...breathtaking! Landscape paintings and still life works are one thing, but these paintings are so imaginative because things like this do not exist in this world. Giorgio de Chirico was a true genius. I'm just sad that my favorite work of his (The Delights of the Poet, 1912) is not shown here. The music fits perfectly, too.
His Father is gone [train on the move] the two figures that chat with long shadows are possible his brother and himself, the reclined woman their mother, the young girl that plays a childhood first love, the statue of a man a tribute to his father the buildings are his memories from Volos the clock of lost memories. Female torso, lust for a mature woman who loved bananas as they were rare and exotic in Volos what gets me the most is that he never painted allot of trees yet filled the sky green
my understanding is that it is not surrealist. he was one of the 'moderns' and breaking away from the futurists, wasnt sure how to identify his interest, but had a fascination with apparitions. he decided on Metaphysical for this period. the emotion evoked seems wrung from opposite poles: (a room, close in immobile struggle, yet a window behind showing vaporous distances...)
One thing that strikes me about De Chirico is that he wasn't a very good painter. It is what he painted that was all that is iimportant and he had enough skill to get across his imagination, which is what matters.
The song is called "Car Chase" off the soundtrack album to "A Beautiful Mind" - one of the best movie soundtracks ever, in my opinion.

De Chirico was a genius ... and nobody can understand a genius. It's easier to laugh, then ...

I love the work;
but read his Memoirs...he was quite an asshole.
Better to just look at the work.
Sadly; all his best work was done early on and then he went downhill...unlke Picasso who always moved forward.

Giorgio de Chirico gave great inspiration to the surrealists. And it is obvious in this video. Great! Thank you!

Love the video.. I love Chirico's work! Is this music from the soundtrack to the movie "The Bone Collector"? Sounds like Craig Armstrong.
Anyways thank you for making and sharing this.
