  • C-3PO VS. R2-D2 VS. Watson

  • C-3PO can take him. He's fluent in over six million forms of communication...

  • @ISMOPANAMA Yeah but C3-PO has a brain of a wallnut.

  • Comment removed

  • This interviewer awful. Either his interrupting the dude, or trying to tell some story involving things he knows nothing about?

  • now let's see it run a nazi zombies round with 10^10^10^10 zombies with 100000000 players at once lol...

  • Human brain will always triumph as the most powerful natural organ, it is the backbone behind every A.I's algorithms!

  • @michael198284 exactly. Would this super computer be self aware of it own self?I don't think so. Their's a difference between knowledge and wisdom.

  • damn! I was waiting for the blue screen to appear!!!!

  • But will it blend?

  • -1 for pedophile mustache

  • sudo rm -R /

    :O!

  • this guy needs to shave his pathetic stash.

  • @Barsaurus i doesn't even have a graphics card.

  • I'd like to see Watson run Vista...

  • This baby could run AND play a record speed run of Crysis 2

  • We are allways going to be better than bots, Cause its we who created them and not the other way.

  • @Bullzeye46 That sounds like Descartes' ontological argument, which is also a load of rubbish :)

  • @Bullzeye46

Yeah! Just like we will always be faster than cars because me made them. You are so smart.

  • @K93George1 You need to believe in yourself. Einstein was considered fool in his time but now we understand his theories. Machine uses logic provided by his programmer not the other way.

  • @Bullzeye46

That's one of the dumbest things I've read all day. Way to prove human superiority.

  • @citricitri How many patents do you posses ? don't think even a single.

  • I wonder what will happen if it divides by zero?

  • @Barsaurus It won't run Halo let me tell you that XD

  • @SPARTAIN088 how would u know

  • What happens if you connect it to the internet?

  • @SPARTAIN088 Skynet.

  • pretty obvious that the only reason watson isnt more powerful ... is it doesnt have enough compute and bandwidth.

    Cloud... Skynet... uh huh

  • Do what you want with him, by all means send him on a space mission alongside astronauts BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T TEACH HIM HOW TO READ LIPS!!

  • Ive got Sarah Connor syndrome while watching this video :D

  • Can Watson do my English homework?

  • Remote connection to watson would be gold.

  • Will it blend?

  • I wanna play halo 4 on that com ;D

  • When can I buy one?

  • certain algorithms i can trust, certain algorithms i can't trust

    ....

certain humans i can trust, certain human i can't trust

    robotics is scary.

  • HEY DUDE THIS IS HILLERIOUS STUFF :) BUT YOUR RIGHT PEOPLE NEED TO STOP PANICKING, HUMAN BEINGS ARE THE MASTERS, WE CAN ADMIN THEM, DONT YOU THINK MACHINES, COMPUTERS ALREADY KILLING PEOPLE? THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE ARE SCARED OF...

Watson can be a good match maker :)

    hilleriousssssssssssssssssssssss.

  • Watson can be a good match maker :)))

Watson: "Hey Dave i think Sara is the one for you buddy" "Hey Sara i think i've found that rich guy you were looking for"

Huge potential for this industry, a reveloution, Watson in the next decade will be worshiped as GOD by customer and the industry :))))

  • I think they chose the wrong guy to interview...

  • The interviewer sounds like Tom Hanks.

  • He was riding his bike and got hit by a flying bat..Ummm O.K..me scense bullshit!!

I went to one of there other videos promoting Watson and they happen

to show and index card with a "Bat" on it.. I think real computers like this are not far away.. but this is just a sales pitch and there making it seem more impressive then it really is.

  • Watson is self aware....

  • I wonder what would happen if you'd ask him this:

Is your answer to this question no?

  • @ThePeoplesGuru He would outsmart it and answer "Negative"

  • @ThePeoplesGuru BSOD .......... i wish

  • I totally dig Watson - Can not wait to meet him in 6/20 at AllForOneSummit

  • but can it run Crysis 2?

  • Because I need someone to beat my at jeopardy on my desk :)

  • Sorry Larry Paige and Sergi Brinn already came out with Watson, they just call it google

  • the last point he makes, watson uses slang lol

  • Are you all being sarcastic, or do you people honestly think self-aware computers will want to take over the world, only because some Arnold Schwarzenegger movie with flashy special effects told you so?

Watson isn't any better than we are, "he" too can make mistakes and often second guesses "himself." Computers can only be as smart as the people who created them, Watson is no exception.

Did African-Americans try to take over the world after being freed from slavery?

  • The day they fit ALL that intoa tiny chip, is the day we get owned... meh i can finally run crysis on full then..

  • Watson can self assess his own algorithms? We are doomed!

  • 3:50 froze what?

  • i fucking hate watson, he is only winning because he can click in first because he "hears" the whole question first.

  • @sk84gs Next time look up the rules of the game first (or even just watch an episode). If you had, you'd know that the whole question is on display as it's being read. Everyone can read it at their own pace, but nobody can buzz in until after the question has been read out loud. Do some research before you rage.

  • @mysterykcad I've watched the show for over 15 years, i know- I seriously doubt all those people can even read off the screen. Most def not anywhere near as fast as a computer can process it... then it rings in with an electronic indication. ....

STOOOOOOPED ASS FAWK if you "like" Watson.

personifying a computer with a human name has always been gross to me, that aside; look at the forced pop culture media shuving cool robotics down our necks.. HMMMM I WONDER WHY!

  • @sk84gs First off, if you had bothered to do the research as I suggested, you would know that Watson doesn't ring in electronically. They actually built a mechanism to press a buzzer so that it could play in a similar fashion to the other contestants. Second, I never said anything about liking or disliking Watson, so your petty insult towards my intelligence is groundless. Lastly, please try and be civil. This is the internet. Show some class.

  • @mysterykcad it doesnt matter it still a machine pressing the button and the question cant be read to the damn thing because its a machine! ....

and in that case no shit a computer can search faster then a human... big deal? can watson make a samich pls...with ham bitch pls... but if he can we better put him down and never delve down the path again.

humans are going into a weird place i'm not okay. i dont't ever intend to insult your intellect, you are very smart. more so than me.

  • But will watson handle a paradox?

  • It would probably eat Crysis alive...2000 cores and 15 terabytes of RAM....

  • Okay, I'm pretty sure we're in the future now

  • will smith is so pissed watching at home right now

  • Alex: If you want to understand a woman completely you'll ask her this question.

    Watson:....

    Watson: What is Toronto?????

  • 1 terabyte = 1024 gigabytes ....wow.

  • FINAL JEOPARDY:

Q: whats the lunix command for formatting hard drives

    Ken: fsck -f -y/dev/hdbl

    Brad: fsck -f -y/dev/hdbl

    Watson: ..........

  • @MTfullyLoaded lmfao

  • @MTfullyLoaded Luinx....... fail

  • @MTfullyLoaded lol Epic win, best computer joke :3

  • @MTfullyLoaded WRONG. it wouldn't be "what is" for the question.

  • LOL 15 TERABYTES OF RAM and 2000 CORES. My brain can't even comprehend the amount of coding one would need to do to get ANYTHING running on that system.

  • My computer kicks Watson´s ass ^^

  • wow, an intelligent line of questioning, well done sir.

  • Excellent questioning Dave, tu

  • I hope the world never comes to a time where we rely on 'Watson' to make important choices for us.

  • the people insulting Watsn its just an advancement we have made in technology

and our brain is like a file as well the fact that Watson can get answers faster is a disadvatage but there is no reason why people should be getting mad because the fact that someonee created that computer to do so much so be an acomplishment and i think its wonderful that that Watson was made.

    just saying

  • @giovanar109 just saying its a fucking gross concept to begin with-

  • Watson is Joshua's son...?

  • but will it blend?

  • [insert funny statement, in search for dumbs up]

  • Two things: #1. Totally not fair that Watson was fed a text file. He should have had to get the clue with voice recognition, just like the other contestants. I think that makes the results invalid. #2. Don’t give me this A.I. crap. Notice how well Watson did, beating the two greatest contestants ever, yet he is so stupid he couldn’t even participate in the simplest part of the show; the little interview after the first break.

  • @iamauen ...'he should have had to get the clue with voice recognition'

... and a mechanical manipulator for pressing the button.

It is obvious that it does not know anything, for it does not recognize what it is doing (the subject of knowledge, the substantive owner is missing). The question is neither when it will start thinking, nor when it will become self-conscious, nor what is the class if impossibility of this.

The question is can it compile our knowledge and clean it from contradictions.

  • @iamauen how is it not "fair" the other guys DID answer questions around the same time Watson did its just he is a tad bit faster. all in all he was doing what they were. looking deep in there memories to find a correct answer. the only advantage he has over them is it takes out the human factor.second guessing himself at the last second too slow to press the button etc.over all Watson only had the advantage he could "think" faster than humans can but sometimes he gets it wrong just like humans

  • @TonPappa the thing is that its a computer. its just faster. humans can only access 10% of their brain which is what some ppl say. i believe thats true. he doesnt instantly know the answer, he jus looks it up faster. although i feel he is more correct then humans.

  • @pcigroot first the only 10% of the brain thing is wrong. Neurologist Barry Gordon describes the myth as laughably false, adding, "we use virtually every part of the brain, and that [most of] the brain is active almost all the time". hell you can google it easily and find thousands of refinances of how its not true. other than that your other 2 statements is correct. he can do it faster and get it right most of the time better than humans can. watch the nova special on it. it explains a lot.

  • @TonPappa It started b/c people studying the brain discovered that out of all of a certain type of neuron fire 10%. So only 10% of all of these neurons are firing at a given time. It isn't fully understood but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that overusing these neurons would cause problems or if it is the best way to use the most energy & still conserve it efficiently. This got misstated in the media & people thought that the study meant that we only use 10% of the brain.

  • @Jaser200 i can read Wikipedia also.it said the same exact thing you just copied. maby you should google Neuroscience For Kids - 10% of the Brain Myth.

  • @iamauen yep exactly man... was looking all over youtube and your the only other person i see saying this.

the whole concept of watson is just a gross thing to begin with.

i really hate how people are leaning toward tech and scientific knowledge and growing further apart from the planet... so disgusted with humanity right now.

  • @sk84gs

Depends how you look at it.. we've failed to find the right answers for ourselfs seemingly without fail for thousands of years. What if an A.I. can answer the big questions better than we ever could? What if our own all to human mental blockings don't prevent him from thinking up answers to the big questions.

  • Comment removed

  • @sk84gs Scientific knowledge doesn't bring people away from this planet, technology maybe, but scientific knowledge, of course not. If anything, it's helped me understand not only our planet, but the universe as a whole much better, and in turn, bringing me closer to it.

Read some Sagan, Feynman, Hawking, etc. and enlighten yourself. Ignorance is a dangerous thing.

  • @GodzillaCO Carl Sagan FTW

  • Watson might know a lot more than me, but at least I got laid.

  • Asker: Watson, what's your primary objective?

Watson: To terminate humani.....to answer jeopardy questions

  • @SovietUnity hahahahaahahaha that was one of the funniest things I've ever read on youtube, xD

  • @SovietUnity Yeah! Watson better not forget who supplies Watson's energy............ the matrix :O

  • "See, this is where it starts, and when we're all just organic batteries, guess who they'll blame? "This is all IBM's fault. What a tool they were. I have to spend all day computing pi because they plugged in the Overlord."

  • My CPU is a neural-net processor, a learning computer. The more contact I have with humans, the more I learn.

  • Terminator much?

  • Where the F--- is John Connor....?

  • Sir you must relinquish all nuclear commands to Watson. That is the only way to stop the virus. Sir Watson is online......

  • Those are just for show, the real watson is somewhere deep under ground.. i swear XD

  • The whole Skynet joke might be the most played out thing on the internet.

  • when will Watson have eyes and ears??? and be connected to the Internet???

  • What's with 'motorcycle club?' as the third choice?

  • Moore's law = # of transistors you can fit on a chip doubles every 18-24 months

  • @daledude66

24 months, 18 months is incorrect

  • @rifledmonkey Its roughly 24 months, so 18-24 is fine. What was wrong was that he mixed up # of transistors with processing power which is a common misconception. Moore's law doesn't say anything about processing power directly.

  • @daledude66 I think Mores law is flawed. Why did it take so long for smartphone processors to get to the point there are at now. Oct 2005 PPc 6700 released with a 416mhz processor and almost 5 years later we just started seeing 1ghz..

On the other hand Moores law says in 5 years our pcs/phones will be infinitely fast, but they will be so small we wont be able to use them.

  • @algierssolja Moore's Law simply states that the number of transistors that can be packed onto a silicon wafer - the "density" doubles every 18 months. That's all it says.

Clock speed may have tracked along-side Moore's Law for a while, but it was never a part of the actual law. Moore's Law doesn't state anything about systems becoming infinitely fast either.

Thus, you may see these flaws in Moore's Law, but it is because your perception of what Moore's Law is isn't correct. Cheers.

  • Why?! Haven't they seen Terminator?!

  • @SoullessConviction This actually reminds me more of Wargames. That Watson computer is a lot like the wargames computer...

  • I can just hear Chessmaster Garry Kasperov saying to Ken, "I feel your pain, man!"

  • Oh, It was correct all along, it was just a typo. It was *2011* A Space Odyssey. >_>

  • RE: It learns

This could be checked. Solving the Cast NEWS puzzle, for example is learning by discovery. If a computer CAD model of the puzzle is made (with all the traps and fake buttons, and misleading tips), and to Watson is provided an access to the model for learning by discovery on the grounds of trial and error, it is interesting to see what it will learn (how it will solve the puzzle).

Key moment: the people programming Watson with the algorithms should not know how the puzzle is solved.

  • the question is though did Watson have access to the internet?

  • @Pifacedude

No, and if it did it'd be a handicap. It'd be more impressive if they made algorithms to find RELIABLE sources of info on the net and go through it with blazing speed rather than use stored databases (which is what it does)

  • Host: He can't do that, Dave

Watson: Who is My big Brother

  • IT LEARNS

  • the pure natural language processing algorhythms are INCREDIBLE at themselves! :/

  • Judgement Day Has Began......!

  • IBM = HAL -2001 Space odyssey was most prescient

  • they should've named it Hal

  • john connor!! save us!!!

  • That guy Dave is so cute, smart and sexy.

  • IBM + DARPA = Skynet.

  • 2 peoples names were John Connor.

  • All I want watson to do is grab me a beer while i watch jeopardy. If we're going to start creating human computers make them useful. This stuff is getting crazy and there are definitely going to be robots walking around soon. I'm going to have to get more weapons...

  • I think its awesome that it takes a computer with ninety 8 core processors each with 4 threads per core (basically 90 32 core processors) clocking in at 10080Ghz in total with a 17 terabyte hard drive to beat one human brain. And it only won, in my opinion, because it can click the button faster than them. I think they knew all the answers too, they just cant click as fast as a computer, which clicks at the speed of light.

  • @Porojukaha God's amazing creation.

  • @clearedtoengage Absolutely. Of all things in the known universe the human brain is the most complicated and incredible, and the least understood. I dont know how you can look at the brain and think God doesnt exist.....

  • @Porojukaha I don't know, by being honest with yourself, perhaps? By clearing that confirmation bias forged by indoctrination?

  • @Murdulo you guys always have to hate huh? It has nothing to do with indoctrination. I used to be an atheist bro. Its better on this side of the fence, trust me.

  • @Porojukaha Well yeah, and it was better to believe in Santa Claus... when I was 8. Wishful thinking doesn't make it true.

  • I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid.

  • this team works with robotics - u got urself terminator.

  • I think Google should make their own 'Watson' then they could duke it out with IBM.

Can you imagine Watson powering search engines?

  • Unemployment just went up.

  • i think its funny how people say that Watson beat them. Im pretty sure you can take thousands of years of technological developement, plus a few hundred brilliant minds, and be able to design something to beat two men. just sayin.

  • @legitterkid

No, your assumption is wrong. Until very recently it was not possible to design something that could beat two men at a mental puzzle.

  • Sarah Connahhhh?

  • this thing is amazing, and good interview too, i'd like to be smart one day......

  • "I, for one, will welcome our new computer overlords "

  • @bullbunnies "good looking engineer"

    you're being redundant ;-)

  • not that this is important, but all of the 'self-assessment' is somewhat overstated.

Machine learning is still 'supervised'. Whether it is able to statistically determine good/bad learning algorithms it's not really assessing itself.

    btw good looking engineer.

  • the realization that the humans are becoming obsolete in 3.. 2... 1.. 2:50

  • Why is everybody comparing Watson to Skynet? If there's any, I mean ANY, other supercomputer it should be compared to, it's the fucking HAL 9000. It won't be soon until we launch that damn thing into space for a "mission" or two. Hell, if that ever happens, I feel sorry for the two poor souls that get launched alongside it.

  • @OddOneOut665 ..... I Robot Issac Asimov cutie :)

  • Yeah, but can it run Crysis?

  • @bootleg42

Actually no, It doesn't have a GPU.

  • @bootleg42 200+ processors puts my little core2 quad to same. 15+ TBs of ram. Judging by the quality of watsons avatar Id say its running a fairly decent gfx card so. Im betting it will run crisis at a full 240+ frames per second with gfx on insanely high full water/shadow/shaders etc.

I wonder if these douche bags at IBM have the balls to overclock it!

  • @bootleg42 Well that was a silly question, but if you plug it into any ungodly beast that can it will speedrun the game in 8 minutes, watching every cutscene.

  • @bootleg42 not only can it run crysis, it can play crysis.

  • @bootleg42 the question is... can it run crysis 2?

    dun dun dun........

Also it uses Linux Node OS i think, and you could use Wine and put all of the gpu load on the cpu and run it @ 1000+ fps. I think you'd also need direct x drivers.

  • @bootleg42 probably 100,000 different game scenarios at once all on the highest settings possible.

  • Skynet? No, its like HAL, not Skynet.

  • sel...self...assesses

he doesn't want to say aware

  • This is more like War games and eagle eye.

  • 1:00 "Watson learns"

    Oh.......FUCK

  • All this shit about Terminator stuff umm for all you who BELIEVE this its a movie.

  • we're all gonna dieeeeeeee

  • I am jeopardizing my status, however the truth must come out. "Watson" is a flawed computer that has not functioned properly since its creation. The opponents were told and paid to lose on purpose so that IBM would be able to market their system to various fields...economic, medical, government, educational and the like. Do not be fooled by what you are viewing for its a dangerous ploy as expressed above. I bid you all adieu and I beseech you not to "buy into" IBM or other individual's lies.

  • @kristimas021069 how do you know that they got paid to lose?

  • @kristimas021069 LMAO the damn thing had 10 times their score. Actually, I have never seen a human score that high in a single game. Hell, I have never seen a combined score as high as Watson's. I don't think they could have won whether they tried or not.

  • @kristimas021069 no, it's a conspiracy and they want to brain wash us and use us as slaves.

  • He might be able to build a super computer that answers a whole bunch of questions at a fast speed, but at least i have been laid.

  • @HockeyFights1890 i bet he has millions of dollars and gets laid alot more than you.
