I read that Lucille Ball was such a fan of Star Trek and the pilot, that she nearly single handedly kept the series on TV by leveraging it against other Desilu shows - NBC wanted to cancel the show from the beginning. I suspect the show was canceled after the third season because Ball had sold Desilu to Paramount and there was no one there to go to bat for Star Trek.
@iconservation but look how star trek turned out afterwards a ton of movies and spin off series and a sat morning cartoon not too shabby for a show that nbc cancelled thats a negative turned into a positive at least paramount cared to do all these things with a series that was doomed from the get go
This was during the period in late 1967 after Lucille Ball sold "Desilu" to Gulf + Western, Paramount's corporate parent, who folded it into what became "Paramount Television" by 1968.
When I was 6 years old in 1968, every time I heard the Desilu logo music - which, by the way, was composed by Wilbur Hatch, who also penned the music for "The Lucy Show" - I always thought of a rainstorm (the first two notes), giving way to bright sunshine (the last three notes). Perhaps because of its use in the first Paramount Television "sunrise circle" logo as well? (Oddly enough, the logo music was published by Bruin Music, the BMI music publishing arm of Gulf + Western.)
Not anymore-the show just goes into the CBS Television Distribution logo as of this year; also, CBS Paramount is now called CBS Television Studios, ending thirty years of Paramount making TV shows.
How was it possible for this logo to be in stereo? The quality's just AMAZING!

On the 1980s "Star Trek (The Original Series)" reruns it is followed by the telecined Blue Mountain (1979 jingle).

The deal was struck in June 1967, and a grace period ensued during the changeover from Desilu to Paramount.

Oooh, scary! The logo is harmless and most of Desilu's shows were awesome, but the tune still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

The reason that this one is different is because this is from the 1st half of the second season (9-12/67) of "Mission: Impossible".
ClassicTVFan82 4 years ago
And this also happened on a few eps. of the 1st half of the first season of "Mannix," too.
megamanj2007 4 years ago
True. Also you can hear the last note from the theme song too before the logo is animating.
