@MrHardlyWorking It is plastic but it is also the same OE emblem that is used on the W204 models. It holds perfectly well and I've had no issues with leaking, scratching, or with dirt and weather.
The clip is designed to clamp the hood's sheet metal between the face portion of the emblem and the mounting base. There's no way to remove it from the top without damaging the hood.

Thanks to your video, I was able to replace the broken standing star ornament off my 95 w124 with a w204 flat badge. F--- yeah!!
