  • such a great song, brings tears to my eyes

  • the 9 people who did not like it do not know good music when they hear it

  • @littbang777 i don't know how anybody could dislike this

  • When the bass dropped... oh wait.. This kicks dubstep ass.

  • they miss out, all the lyrics listen to paul brady for the full song

  • "A place in my mind you will always find" - reminds me of my first love - I love Paddys Green Shamrock Shore - this is where I belong

  • shamwow!

  • i love this song

  • This song will always remind me of my grandfather. Of pure, pure Irish descent, he truly loved this country and culture with every ounce of his kind heart. I miss you grandpa, but through these songs?

    You're with me always.

  • Err, not exactly irish sounding but a good song none the less.

  • @MrLaz0rz How does a song about leaving Ireland during the potato famine to live in America sung in Irish accents not sound Irish?

  • I've listened to many renditions of this song, but The High Kings' rendition is just... awesome! The other renditions are beautiful, but they don't have the same magic this does, and I love these lyrics. They just take my breath away. The line that really gets to me is "The image of you won't go away," and the way they sing that. OMG it just tugs at my heart. This whole song touches my heart. The High Kings are amazing! I really wanna meet them someday!

  • @TheSingingSweater i agree, man :)

  • @darkai300 I'm a girl.

  • @TheSingingSweater ops :) sorry..epic fail :)

  • @darkai300 Hahahaha it's okay. :)

  • Dang good song, that's for sure

  • My boyfriend showed me this video and to make it romantic he said it is very true for him and me. Well the underlying part where the man leaves his girl and they are separated and that he thinks of me night and day. I did a huge fan girl squeeled and melted at that. This made me love him even more.

  • awesomeeeeee wheeeeeee. that is fabulous

  • I dont care what anyone says about it, it's one of the best songs i've ever heard and im going to have this played when i get maried and when i die im going to arrange it to be played. thats how much i love this song, best song and band ever!

  • increddible my arssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssse

  • @monsterbap You're not into Irish music? It strays a lot from the original piece and it has that silly Lord of Dance -boy band- commercializing the hell out of it. But It still leaves me longing somewhat for Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore.

  • This is quite different than the traditional version.

  • @jamesbondaygee Yes, indeed, quite unrecognizable, isn't it...!!

  • What incredibly original music the Irish have made!

  • The Kings in Loveland Colorado. I will be there.

  • is it playback? it's too perfect!!

  • Good song, shite group

  • @tony10396861 they're amazing

  • ...

I remember listening to this back in the winter, when I was desperately wishing for the spring and was looking for it in every breeze warmer than 5°C.

    Stunningly beautiful.

  • and they do it again hit peaple emotional love it!!!

  • For some odd reason, the one next to the older one (I don't know names, please forgive) reminds me of Damian from Celtic Thunder. That's actually how I rediscovered the Thunder. :)

  • MEET YOUR number #1 American Fan!!! Celtic music rocks! Nothing compares

  • @Mr19thIndiana not true buddy...go and discover the Bulgarian folklore genuine music...you'll be blown away!

The MAGIC Of Bulgarian Voices & Music

  • @Stoewarius Hahaha pull the other one

  • I love blasting this too.. because I am going back again this summer and can't wait to spend the summer on paddy's green shamrock shores

  • lough erin shore <3

  • EVERYTHING about that drummer is epic...from his playing style to in man beard!

  • Don't understand the "stage Irishness" comment. They are all from Ireland, hence they would be Irish whether they were on the stage or not. I think some people expect a rough sound from the High Kings, but they are not Shane MacGowan and the Pogues. It is just a different style, but still Irish.

  • Personally Id rather listen to Brian Cowens version than this. Really

  • One of my absolute favourites.

  • 7 people couldnt fight the waves

  • Finbarr Clancy is of irish background look up the Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem

  • An awesome concert experience would be Celtic Thunder and the High Kings, or Celtic Woman and the High Kings....I just love these guys!

  • IRISH POWERRRRRRRR

  • Not a fan of the high kings because of their stage irishness but i will admit that this song is something else!

  • I cant wait to go on my trip with them playing on my mp3 player! Ireland, Scotland, and Brittan here i come!

  • I love it!! So proud to be Irish!!

  • These guys make Celtic Thunder look ridiculous.

  • @TacticusPrime Thats true, which says all you need to know about Celtic thunder.

  • @TacticusPrime Well, not really. Sort of. I mean, Celtic Thunder is more Irish rock than traditionsl Irish/Scottish, so High Kings does a song like this - really, amazingly awesome - and you can't compare it to Celtic Thunder's version because Celtic Thunder didn't do a version, so in that instance I would have to agree with you. But otherwise, I have an inviolable sense of loyalty for the Thunder. ;)

  • I am proud to be half Irish

  • this is my favorite song ever. <3 i want this song played at my funeral. random, i know, but seriously. <3

  • I'm only a teensy bit Irish, but this song brings out every ounce of it :D

  • @c0v3rtw4ffle good for you

  • The High Kings are an excellent band, I really love their versions of many of the old songs ... while some singers sing all irish music as dirges, they put hope into them. If you listen to this song, and Marie's Wedding, so many singers make them sad... SERIOUSLY???? have they ever listened to the words of Marie's Wedding??? Its a joyous song, a celebration just like the High Kings sing it! I love their work!

  • I love The High Kings!!!!

  • brelfan its every one to there own no one said u had to like it and im from ireland

  • I am proud to be Irish <3 \I feel such a connection to the music and the dancing; just the culture in general. To go there someday is my dream.

  • @dncr4evr14 youre proud to be Irish, yet to go to ireland someday is your dream?

  • @sapphireloveshb I am Irish by blood but I was born in America, I have never been to Ireland.

  • lets be aylitical, they perform rearly well, sing well, they do apear arogant onstage however. the songs are great, and they work well together, but they look to manufactured and smarmy.

  • Seriously, I agree with ChocolateKarma and Lacelu - stop the hating. I've seen these guys perform live and they are FANTASTIC!!!! Yes, the "choreography" in this video is a little cheesy - what do you expect, it's a PBS Special. But who cares. These guys are awesome, and the follow-up CD Memory Lane is even better.

  • @littlenookie1 who cares about chreography, its about the song:D

  • @brelfan then take a page out of the sensible playbook: If you don't like it, don't watch it. What a novel concept, right? To each their own.

  • I'm sorry. The High Kings are irritating. You can find excellent Irish folk music on Youtube, including stuff from the Clancys and Paul Brady (who I cannot stop listening to in the past so many days). And this isn't excellent. It's somehow cheesy. And people know it and say so. This is Youtube, guys.

  • I'm Irish and proud of it. My friend sent me this song and I kinda immediately got hooked on it so I listen to it a lot, especially when I want to daydream or something, I listen to it a lot while writing... ^_^

  • i am one of the few Irishmen that cannot sing but i love to hear my countrymen doing it up right great job boys

  • awesome !!!

  • Everytime i hear this song, it makes me daydream........

  • this is a great song^^

  • Why am i not Irish? Hate it..

  • good one

  • I Love your music and culture. Greetings from Hungary :)

  • This song and Isle of hope, Isle of tears are those which bring tears to my eyes and chill down my spine. They are so melancholic and put listeners into the mixed emotions of Irish emigrants when they left the "isle of hunger, isle of pain" for America for a better life. They portrayed the poignant past of Ireland when is was still the poorest country in Europe. Best songs ever!!

  • The High Kings are my favorite band :D feel proud to be Irish if that's what you are! just like me! :D

  • dey are gr8 . bu u sud hear horslips trouble with a capital T .

  • This is my favorite song by these guys! It makes me want to visit Ireland again...its an amazing country, full of amazing music and people. Oh and don't forget the scenery!

  • their harmony sends cold chills down my spine

  • Anyone who keeps track of this band, I need to know their new songs, as they make them. I swear there aint one so far that I dont like or admire. Ireland, you have great bands and great music and singers. To me thats something major to brag over america. Im an american and I love Irish songs. Make me wish I was Irish. You also had couragous military. You have a good country!

  • @Mr19thIndiana we had a good country,its fucked now.

  • great stuff lads...keep it up

  • *sigh*

    This and Celtic Woman :)

  • this makes me wish i was irish...

  • is maith liom punani!!

  • lads yee hav sum larnx's on yee....yee pure imense....i saw yee play at half tme n croke park 2 r 3 yrs ago n yee were savage..keep it up men....cheers

  • Absolutely love these guys.. Great vocals, they love what they're doing and fantastic music accompaniment. Love Irish music. It's amazing how many differences there are between Irish productions as The High Kings, The Dubliners, Celtic Woman or Anuna, and it's still all great. I'm not wild about Celtic Thunder though, but they have some enjoyable stuff.

  • keep singing boys.................

  • Éirinn go Brách!!!! :)

  • Gentlelighting... The word is "BannaStrand", also known as Banna Beach, is situated in Tralee Bay. It is an Atlantic Ocean beach extending from Ballyheigue Beach at the Blackrock in the North to Barrow Beach at its southern edge, located in County Kerry. It is located approx 12 km (7 mi) north west of Tralee.

  • this gave me chills, they are great

  • what does balastrant mean? from the second line 'goodbye to you balastrant'

I've tried googling, but the handful of results are all lyrics to this song.

thanks! for any replies and please reply to this post

  • ok there are two reason why i hate the us one most the guys are not that good looking and two the music is just as bad if not worse but glade i have a little Irish blood in me

  • Damn.. I wanna be Irish, i`m from Holland, we have Frans Bauer... not good

  • @BrodyNomad i wish the same i live in belgium but there he is to

  • I just love these guys SO MUCH. I'm American, but with Irish ancestry, and the High Kings make me even prouder of it! Eirinn go brach!!!! Is it very weird to be so in love with a country I've never been to? Oh well, I am anyway... ;)

  • @irishgirl1684

No, it isn't weird at all...in my short time on this earth I can honestly say the finest Irishmen and women I have ever met spoke with neither Brogue nor Burr.

  • @lukessummerguitar

I know what you mean! Some of my best friends in the world are, shall I say, very Celtic! :) Ireland forever (and the High Kings too!!!!)

  • Belkem, I have to agree with you. compleatly. I also have to say that I wake up in the morning with this song in my mind. I love it.

  • I'd love to see these guys pair up with Gaelic Storm.

  • @xBoose you win

  • 24 secs in! wudnt kick him outa me bed for fartin!

  • I wish I had seen them at Oxegen girls! My neice was there and she said they were fantastic! She showed me the pics on Monday, but they were all of Darren!! lol

  • Ok, so now i know his name is darren. He's the cute one. Feckin tight trousers on him at Oxegen! Phwoarar

  • @vikkidonnell Was thinking the exact same.. was up at the barrier at oxegen to see them... Feck Black eye'd pea's and the rest of main stage... the high kings made my oxegen! :)

  • What a Fantastic song.Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

    So proud to be Irish.

  • It is a song that make's me wish I was born Irish xD

Then I would have something to be proud of :)

  • I'm British and I am proud of it but I do love the Irish, I have an Irish friend and man I say the bickering between two nations should stop and Co exist... We made a name Ire-Brit or Brit-Ire for the love we have... I love this song and they do it excellent :D I wish I could go see them..

  • When i heared this song the first time i wished to come from ireland or live there.

  • I love my Irish heritage.

  • i love this irish musik.

  • this melody sounds exactly like ghleantainn ghlas ghaoth dobhair

  • They dress like the music they preform, like the people the music is about dressed. It helps get you to understand the music better

  • i love this irish musik... I am not irish, but i like this, and i think that i am one of the small group of Teenagers who like Folk musik more then Techno or something.

  • I'm about a quarter Irish, and this music makes me so proud! It also makes me a little wistful...I want to go back for a visit to this beautiful land.

  • Proud to be irish :)

  • My great great grandparents sailed across the Atlantic to make a new life in America and within my blood is the longing to make a trip back home to the Emerald Isle (County Mayo). This song keeps that desire burning. So proud of my Irish roots. Éirinn go Brách!

  • @nonophil16 Go n-eírí an bóthar leat.

  • @nonophil16 After all these years, the longing and desire to visit Ireland is finally coming true! I'll be going back to my roots this July! Spending a good amount of time touring Southern Ireland and researching my roots in Western Ireland. This will be a trip of a lifetime, and I'm hoping and praying I find great history of my Irish/Celtic ancestry.

  • @nonophil16 good luck to you! Have a save trip and enjoy every breathtaking moment of the green isles!

  • Im polish. When im listing to the irish music im wondering hows that possible that i was born right in Poland. I love my country and im so crazy about our nation's language and our history but i feel like Ireland is my second homeland. I love the green hills, celts culture and most im dazed by irish&scotland music. Id like to quote one of our national poet. Usta milczą , dusza śpiewa usta milczą , świat rozbrzmiewa. - "Lips are silent, soul is singing, whole world's sounding.

  • i am eight generation irish and about 1/32 pure. and i still love this music!

  • Irish babes born abroad (even down to the fifth generation like me ;) ) still feel an ache in their hearts, calling them home to mother Ireland's shores. It's inexplicable, but tangible. I know I feel a pull calling me away, especially every time I hear the music...

  • @american09mutt wow, I'm not the only one! I've never even been to Ireland and I still feel kinda "homesick" if you will, when I hear Irish music.

It is inexplicable, but it's cool that I'm not the only one feeling like that.

  • I missed them when they played Sacramento California two years ago, a mistake I won't repeat if they ever play here again.

This song makes me think of my paternal grandfather, who was from county Kilkenny.

Lets not forget the the other musicians on the DVD: Martin O'Conner accordion, Nollaige Casey fiddle, Dave Keery and Ewan Cowley guitars, Robbie Harris percussion, and Pail Moore double bass.

Yeh it's old trad, but it's damn good old trad. Slainte guys!

  • Great song that is well sung. Sad to think when you listen to this over 60,000 youg Irish people have left the Green Shamrock Shores due to to incompentant bastards ruining this once great country.

  • listening to these guys makes me so happy and proud to be Irish

  • @ChocolateKarma99 And, for me, listening to these guys makes me wish I was Irish...

  • @ChocolateKarma99 And listening them I'd like to be irish. :)

  • @ChocolateKarma99 me too AND I'M NOT EVEN IRISH XD

  • @ChocolateKarma99 - Well, I'm only Irish if you go back more than a century, but listening to them makes me want to learn more about my heritage and Ireland's history.

  • @ChocolateKarma99 and me so sorry not to be one...

  • im in tears :)

  • wonderful...They will become very famous in the world

  • OMG!!!

  • this is the best irish music i ever heard, and dear drobna32 ... it's irish not polish :))

  • Beautifully. I greet the Polish.

  • sacrilege

  • I love the accordeon at the beginning.. Great music accompaniement and these guys have good voices. I do not like everything by the High Kings, but this is fantastic.

  • People whining about how they look onstage and about this and that, typical Irish begrudging. Its what has held us back as a nation and people since the 1920's, miserable old fogies allergic to change. If you listen to them instead of looking at them, complaining about them and being bitter you'll actually hear how good their vocals are. So for once, shut yer mouths and open yer ears. They are not better or worse than other ballad groups, just different. If you don't like them, don't listen.

  • @Blakem74 Somebody give this person a medal!

  • @Blakem74 right on!

  • God I cant stand self righteous tosspots who think they know it all. One of them is Finbar Fureys son, another is a nephew of Liam Clancy. They are also both accomplished musicians. They are as traditional as traditional Irish folk goes. Find me an Irish ballad group who sang their own songs without covering other works and I'll give you a million bucks. They don't lack passion and it is a great 'production'.

  • i know that one of them is the son of one of the Clancy's because he says it at the start of one of the vids

  • der good but never could beat da clancys RIP lads

  • so why don't all ya, who got a problem with this new stuff, give us a chance to hear it? It's all we got when it comes to Irish tunes... there is a lot of us Americans(Irish Americans) who have never heard these songs before... so what if it's a little different than what you're used too. There are many of us who've never had the opportunity to hear the original songs ... give us a chance...I'm an American but, an Irish flag blows in the wind outside our house..

  • God spare us from purists..........the're not Planxty but they are enjoyable.....relations of the Clancy's I think, so they have good grounding in folk.......and trad

  • This song gives me goosebumps. Beautiful.

  • Comment removed

  • gorgeous! x

  • Sounds like Darren on the cd and here. Saw them live in March, and he was doing them then also.

  • Is it Darren or Brian who does the high harmony parts?

  • Lots of power in this song.

  • The High Kings CD is one of my all-time favorites. And this song and "The Parting Glass" are my two favorites on the CD. I am thrilled to find this video on-line. Now I can put faces with the voices I enjoy listening to so much. The harmonies are truly awesome.

  • Absolutely brilliant! It's great to have a good "folk" band that doesn't sound like a bunch of drunk hippies.

The strength and the passion of the People really comes out in this. Great job, gents!

  • 0.24 sec's. Oh Darren.

  • and 0.27 secs. Brian! =)
