An ICE has poor fuel economy when the engine is cold I wonder if they would develop a solar engine warmer would this improve the economy of the car enough to justify the modification. I remember when the speed limit was increased at that time most people drove economy cars the speed was increased and people rationalized I need to wrap as much vehicle around me to provide protection hence the proliferation of vehicles and the introduction of the suv as we know it.
I wish people would use just what they need to get around rather than getting a vehicle that attracts chicks. Perhaps if oil prices go to $6 a gallon we might see the oversized SUV parked and economy cars make a come back. We need the national speed limit lowered to 55/60 that would save billions of barrels of oil and take the glamor out of driving. States need to lower registration cost so if you havetruck4 a boat it would save $ to drive a econo to work if you have to insure both U loose $.
cdltpx-I'd be willing to pay $10 a gallon to drive my SUV and might park it at $11.50 a gallon (maybe). If you drive around as many drunk drivers as I do you wouldn't want to drive a pop-can car. Rather than lower the speed limit the USA needs to re-time (fix) their stoplights. Take into account the non-essential stops and you can increase your mileage. I use 1 gallon of diesel at 19 highway miles, I use 2.5 gallons in stop and go traffic at that same 19 miles. Speed isn't the issue its RPM's

If you make regular runs time the light if you sit more than a min it is worth it to turn off the engine next time you get there be careful not to grind starter. The dollar has been going down, and the United States continues to have a massive trade deficit, yes exports have slighty risen compared to imports, but not much. A weak dollar, is weak, its just that simple.

Chavaz once suggested that oil should be priced by a basket of currencies in lieu of the dollar. Though I despise that commie, he may have a point, OPEC should consider that at thier meeting.
