  • my siberian husky resource guards items and if we try and take it away she bites the shit outta me and even sometimes shell just freak out and bite me really hard she's 6 months old idk what to do we are trying the shock collar but it doesn't seem to be doing anything

  • How did u stop the conflict ? My ebt is having this problem with toys our anything in the house he lashes out on are collie

  • @Berto55535 The dogs now get along good, but my friend still needs to control toys and other resources with both of them. I make it a habit to have low level toys out and keep the high value items for special times and turn it into training. Email me at egilbert@kc.rr.com with more details please.

  • Why would you name an Akita, Tsunami?

  • Great video........ on 2nd rescue, first one was five had him until he was 13 gone 3/311 no hair, clean windows,,,,,,,, sad,,, rescued 2nd akita end of august who was left by a family tied to a bed no water or dood 60 lb now 85 I call the new dog Gideon by the old dogs name they look so much alike EINSTEIN. no breed like an akita

  • Unfortunately this type of thinking perpetuates the Akita myth and lack of socialization and appropriate breeding with Akitas. Check out my blog on this topic on my blog. Akitas or other type of breeds in this way leads to breed bands and undersocialized dogs.

  • People please understand watching this that a true Akita (hard to find now) ARE THE BRAVEST AND TOUGHET DOGS ON EARTH PERIOD

  • No, my friend didn't do anything to make Grom that paranoid. He's much better now and he's good with dogs being around his mom. Careful what you ask for if you reinforce this behavior without a protection trainer and be sure to up your liability insurance. Be careful with protection training any dog.

  • So I got a new German shepherd pup, was your dog in video trained to protect like that?

  • I just had to put my German shepherd down. He was a fear biter due to puppy mill Inbreeding. I thought I'd never want a gsd again but after your video, I'm rethinking. I loved my Brody the GSD and may he R.I.P.

  • no off. but it wuz kinda boring... sorry!

  • My GSD behaves this way only to one other dog, that belongs to our friend. She simply doesn't trust him. Other dogs can play with my kids, roll them over, lick and jump on or around them and she will not react. My girl doesn't trust my friend's dog at all. She will snap and growl at him every time he tries to approach my kids and block him. I know that this dog has some 'mental' issues as I call it and I do trust my GSD's judgement on dogs...

  • yea alright mate

  • Yes, I think most of the spitz breeds can be a little tight when they meet. They generally approach with chest out and posture up a bit more. I work with a lot of Akitas and I agree they can be a little hard to read and react quickly like most fighting breeds.

  • Very cool...lots of calming signals going on, especially in the beginning...

  • I've been searching for answers on how to stop my GSD/Husky mix from guarding me at the dog park. She is a rescue dog that I adopted when she was 6 months old. She is now 1 yr old. She actually loves other dogs and is excellent at doggie daycare, however she will guard me from other dogs at the dog park and get into fights because of it. She behaves exactly like the GSD in the video when I'm with her. Any ideas on what I should do?

  • lot of posts on this so i thought i'd just put this in the mix..there's an akita at my park really nice dog no trouble what so ever so why does it look like to me anyways that other dogs have a natural fear of of the akita i mean all the dogs seam to show it!!..

  • @ocyrus70

I think it might be that Akitas dont show alot of body language so other dogs have trouble "reading" them....

  • Yea, I have a female Akita and she can tell when there's anybody on our block from in the basement, she hears things that I couldn't from upstairs with a window open. Akitas are natural born hunters and guard dogs, I believe they could be used to hunt anything. In Japan they were used to hunt bears and other dangerous game, and they are EXTREMELY smart.

  • i've own rotts, gsd and akitas. i prefer akitas. but i know owners that had both rotts and akitas and prefer rotts, so it's a personal choice. i know one thing if that akita wanted to take down that gsd, it wouldn't have any problem. i've seen it happen. so #1 guard dog thing, it all depends what the dog is guarding against. human or bears? ultimate guard dog situation is to have one of each. that should cover all bases.

  • @AkitasLOL Not to get into a wich dog would win a fight thing, but you said the Akita would take out the GSD w/no problem,, Wrong! When i was about 18 years old, i was walking my very protective German shepherd, when my neighbors aggressive and uncontrollable Akita came charging at us, a fight broke out, and within about 10-15 seconds, my German shepherd tore the Akita up, i pulled my dog away, and the Akita went running away yelping and ripped up. I always feel safe with my GSD by my side!

  • @m1shadow - I didn't mean all Akitas and GSD, just in this case the Akita is stronger than the GSD and about 5 years younger. I didn't mean breed vs breed, that would be a dumb comment.

  • @KCDogguy no,, i didnt take it that way, i was addressing the comment to someone else anyway, username - akitaslol. Yes, the Age does play a factor too,, they are both very well behaved dogs! How old are they now? Any hip problems with either?

  • @m1shadow great. u then have an unusually gifted GSD. I have owned several GSD. In my own personal experience, I can't imagine any of my GSD taking out an akita. Especially, one that's not socialized, as you described.

  • @AkitasLOL well, alot of it has to do with the fact of the situation,, alot of dogs are extra protective when on there owners leash, esp a German shepherd. Im confident any one of the German shepherds i owned could have overcame this dog in the situation. The neighbors used the Akita as a bully,, they were bragging how it beat up a Rottweiler, and it always attacked other dogs, well this time,, it learned its lesson! Not the poor dogs fault, it was the stupid owners, i still like Akita's!

  • gsd are more trainable than akitas that's why they are often used for police and military. akitas are an ancient breed and are closely link to the wolf. they are instinctive in guarding, no training necessary. you wouldn't be able to train an akita to do what the gsd is doing in this video, because the akita wouldn't feel it necessary because there was no threat to the owner.

  • That is a very small male Akita, and it looks like more like a Chow mix of some sort. Maybe the black Akita is still a puppy and the GSD is full grown. And another thing, if that was an average full-grown male Akita, he would not have been so passive toward the GSD. Akitas are very confident and fearless.

  • Actually Tsunami is up to around 100lbs now. No mix, pure Akita. Look at the play video with him and my female AKita. He really was not passive, just not feeling like a fight. He's the dominant dog in the house, but is very diplomatic. It's a myth Dominant dogs are aggressive.

  • Amen on that one, a truly dominant dog is a problem solver and will rather make peace than fight BUT if having to they will protect themselves. I have three females, pit, rott and rott/shar pei mix. The rott is recently rescued from the pound, she was due to euthanasia cause of resource guarding. Her and my 9 year old shar pei mix have had two spats, with very little blood drawn cause it's more about finding bounderies (rottie is rude) and limitations than dominance. People often mix these up!

  • Very well said. Most of the time it's rude dogs without boundaries! KCDOGGUY

  • @ravendarknessa

Isn't it amazing how many people think the fighters and scrappers are "Alpha" and "dominant"...when I educate my clients Ill ask them to pick the Alpha from a group and they hardly ever get it right...

  • @annatheviking oh I agree,a lot of people have dogs that def shouldn't..

  • awesome video. what did you mean by the owners giving up on whispering ways? were the owners thinking that they could solve the fights by alpha rolling their GSD????

  • Oh yes. So many owners try to use a certain TV trainers methods to create an "alpha" in the home. Very dangerous with a dog like Tsunami. All is well in the home with the two dogs!

  • I HATE THAT MAN with a passion! Nat Geo has removed all my scientific links and comments that proovs that his methods are wrong on their channel under his videoclips. Its kinda funny and sad.. I don't read Nat geo no more cause if they are so wrong about the dogtraining promoted (since they are suposed to be all about the latest science and all) they are likely wrong about a lot of other stuff too.

  • Too bad this GSD generally a nervous nelly and the Akita is simply avoiding conflct. In the home the Akita controls the action without aggression. They continue to build a bond with each other, but alas in this situation the Akita wears the pants. KCDogGuy

  • The German shepherd is undoubtedly the best guard dog. Even though the Akita is a tough fighting breed dog, the German shepherd is in a class of its own, and was used to defend its herd successfully from dangerous predators, and is the #1 police and military dog!

  • I just love the silence of the Akitas. GSDs are just a bit too barky for me.

  • @KCDogguy

Akita's have a very quiet way about them...they dont seem to show alot of body language....kind of like chows....do you find them hard to read?

  • Not at all, I have had both types of dogs, everyone has feared my Akita than my GSD. Untrained, the Akita is the best, most dominant breed ever that's not a wolf.

  • interesting videos

  • another favourite, you are so good at interpreting canine body language, these videos are invaluable to our learning. Thank you again

  • Another great video. Thanks for capturing and sharing. :-)
