  • I don't mind wipin' tears to this. I love you SRV.

  • the Best Dude heard you on The radio

  • Stevie played longer than planned at this show. The other camera operators quit at the expected time, leaving only the wide shot camera. Other than that, this is one of his best shows on DVD.

  • @thebird55 thats too bad, i'd never quit recording until the music stops! but i have this dvd and it is GREATTTT!!!

  • I know he wrote this for his friend after he died, but it's really kinda prophetic. He could have written this about himself. We all miss your grin and the love you passed our way.

  • A TRUE leGAND

  • ROCK N ROLL

  • Can anybody just comment on THIS PERFORMANCE(which is great) without comparing Stevie to somebody else??? You annoying imbeciles with your endless contrasts/comparisons to Hendrix or whomever. Just let this stand on it's own merit.

  • "SVR is my favorite guitarist EVER!!! Don't forget this is a jimi hendrix song in soul!!!"

  • Comment removed

  • Love this song!! SRV forever!!

  • we all have missed you, and the way you grin..

  • stevie forever the greatest next to jimi in terms of guitar players

  • @mossberg451 beats jimmy out on style alone.

  • His music still gives me goosebumps!

  • Chilling every single time

  • My brother and i used to watch this off of the dvd.... and it was one of my brother's favorite. my bro died 5 years ago and it's crazy listening to this song for me....... those first lyrics really hit me hard.... I miss my bro a lot.... my ma lit a candle after he died and has been passing the flame from candle to candle for 5 years... tonight i just put it our accidently cus i was tryin to light a cig from it... i feel shitty... rest in peace brother... i love you forever and ever and ever...

  • We all miss you big fella ! Number one back then, now and for evermore.. Still shed a few tears now and then, missing you so bad .

    God rest your beautiful soul.........

  • I was listening to the studio version of this earlier today. I couldn't help getting a little choked up....

  • 6:30-6:40 is incredible variation from the other versions! :)

  • Amazing version, I especially loved the part at 6:45 where played with one hand for almost thirty seconds... Brilliant.

  • R.I.P...Stevie........Cin2sm@aol.com

  • On a silent starry night I hear you up there my friend and smile...Until we meet again keep on lovin....

  • doesn't matter that he is dead...his music is legacy and that would keep Stevie with us forever...this is what Legacy is all about

  • best man in the world

i love you man and wish you were still here with us

your music will live in peace

    forever

  • seriously; its a wonder the man didn't grow wings and just fly to heaven - definitely touched by God. unbelievable player; unmatched or repeated. probably not in my life time.

  • Gotta say this. You guys are talking about Mayer and SRV. They are both great talents. Nobody says Stevie sounded just like Jimi with his playing even though he uses a lot Jimi's techniques. Jimi, Stevie and yes John Mayer are all badass American blues player that can also rock and play any other style of music they want(ed) to. Listen to all of them and enjoy.

  • @gitfiddlin Shut the fuck up.

  • @grga888 nobody's beter then srv dude. blow me

  • @gitfiddlin And where did I say that SRV sucks mr. blow me? If you noticed what I said I think only the best about SRV, for crying out loud he is my idol!

  • @bernytheman - Once technicality takes over music ceases to be art...

  • Best musician ever... and this is his best song, not technically, but as a work of art

  • Stevie had soo much talent, no tellin what he would be doing. As far as some comments on Mayer n Kenny wayne, they can t hold a pick to SRV. They are half of a SRV

  • Wow. If I didn't know better I'd say his voice at the beginning sounded almost like John Mayer. Except... you know... good.

  • Mayer tries so hard to sound like Vaughan, even faking the accent, but just can't pull it off.

    He's too pop.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd does a better job carrying the torch.

  • Kenny Wayne Shepherd carries the torch in a way being the biggest and most famous SRV copycat out there while John Mayer brings the torch in his own way. Yeah, sometimes it sounds like too much pop going on, but hey, it's his style and he does it good. For granted both can't compare to SRV, but definetely to say is that John is by far better than Kenny Wayne.

  • Hmm sad moving song right here.

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan, .......... man he knows how we fell when we love that someone in "are" "lives" i think he took it to his grave, on who he loved, and just played it to his grave, i would if this someone didnt want that in her life, well i'd like to say i love Stevie Ray Vaughan music forever :-)

  • arguing on the internet is like the special Olympics, you might win but your still a retard..

    great SRV, like always

  • Hahaha...

  • that statement is so harsh, but so true :P

  • We all have missed you Stevie.. and the way you grin....

  • 'RAVE-ON', STEVIE

  • if you don't like someone preaching to you then don't watch john mayer's videos

  • The "preaching" as you call it is part of the song. If you buy the cd its on there too. LOL. "he fucked up big time" SRV? ueah right

  • @lucancherby How the fuck are you to SRV how to play?ASSHOLE!

  • "How the fuck are you to SRV how to play?" you don't make any sense killergames187. I will not take insults from you or anybody on this website. If you don't like to have your dead guitar hero critizised you can respond in a civilized manner or just move on. Why is it that you resort to insults? Is it a lack of vocabulary refinement? Are you the type of guy that communicates with 200 words or less? It's just too easy to throw insults at someone. Try to articulate something meaningful.

  • Fuckin retard! You seriously don't know what you are saying.

  • And what do you have to say? "fucking retard" is that the extent of your vocabulary to express that you disagree with someone. That, in itself, shows me that you are in fact a very stupid and ignorant person. I am a very big fan of SRV's music and, specifically, his guitar tone. You have no right to insult me this way and I demand an apology. I will not take any abuse from anybody and if you don't have the decency to admit that you're wrong then don't ever contact me again. Do you understand?

  • Yes I do cause you suck, you are a retard, you know nothing about music. Should I continue? Oh yeah, get a fuckin life and get the fuck of this video you sick moron!!! How dare you talk about Stevie like that? People like you are a shame for human kind, I totally feel sorry for you and your parents who obviously haven't learned you well.

  • "Yes I do cause you suck"!!! and " haven't learned you well"!!! great grammar guy. You have the brain of a 5 year old or you're just plain stupid! First of all I told you NOT to contact me if you don't offer an apology. Is that too hard to grasp for your immature and sick brain? Or do I have to block you so that I don't have to get all this garbage that your rotten brain has to offer? Garbage, garbage, garbage that's all you have to offer for this world. Great contribution man!!!

  • Grow up you worthless piece of shit with nothing in his tiny head!

  • Oh and please don't reply, stop embarassing yourself, seriously fuck off, you're a disgrace to human kind, Stevie Ray if he was of course alive would be the first one to kick your lazy ass for posting such bullshit comments that make no sense at all. Grow up, morons like you mean nothing to this world, while Stevie made his impact, something you will never trully understand and experience!

  • The more you keep writing all this garbage the more I think you're a sick immature self-centered paranoid necrophilic psychopath just looking for an opportunity to pick up a fight with someone. Are you that much of a fucking loser? Are you that fucking bored? Get a life you fucking idiot and stop sending me all this garbage. Or maybe you're just enjoying yourself. If that is the case then you're just a pathetic moron with no prospect ahead,no future and nothing good will ever come from you.

  • You're a fuckin disgrace. You already embarassed yourself like the worst scum in the world on a video of one of greatest guitar players of all time talking bullshit that makes no sense. Please for crying out loud, shut the fuck up you smarty ass bitch. Remember it is you who started talking shit by thrashing Stevie, so it is you who is immature. Who are you to judge him anyway? Are you a guitar player, a musician, etc..? What have you made out of your life? Nothing, so fuck off you coward!

  • off the wall srv was in a class many wish they could be his music will live on forever i get goose bumps every tine i her this one thanks stevie for sharing your talent with the world rip srv

  • One of the greatest thing to ever come out of Stevie is right here. He was not of this world.

  • holy hole of ass this rocks

  • you can always tell what state of mind stevie was in when he gave his Life Without You talk.

  • Who did he write this song for?

  • for a friend of him called charley. He made the guitar srv's playing in this video. The man died and stevie wrote the song... very emotive indeed

  • charlie, he worked on all stevies guitars, and made him this one, with the lipstick pickups, and then he died.

  • @daslatrobe RU N SPACE????????????

  • If you want this footage, i got 85 montreaux including the 82 concert where they booed him off. that one is kinda hard to watch. But if you go to halfprice books, there might be a copy there, i got it on dvd there for 7 bucks. Who knows you might get lucky like i did.

  • Ohhhh I love him!! whoo i wish i could have been there but i was 5 years old damn it

  • 6:32 - 6:40

    most perfect lick ever

  • A realy great version of the song though a shorter version too. Just wish i could see it closer though, and that camera person i think who had left?.

  • It really wasn't that short. 8:00 min was pretty much ok. And yeah, I wish too that the camera was closer a bit, would like to see it closer especially when he is playing with feedback! LOL!

  • Well herd a few go over the 10 min mark,i like them that long too.Well would have to get back maybe later on all ones talking of on cd,here etc...

  • I see what you mean. The longer versions may seem better but this one was pretty good no matter what. I heard one version over 18:00 min long and it was a blast!

  • Yea its one i like a lot too,as i like when uses his fender vibratone i think it is, if right in solo near the end.And that 18.00 minute one i want to hear too,not yet though.I think if right has herd of maybe on here, was in offenbach germany in 1986,if not, that one was of a simlar length too.

  • I heard that version you are talking about Offenbach 1986. A good version, but the version that I am talking about is from Oriental Theater Millwaukee 1985 Life Without You 18:00 min. long! It's one of my favorite versions ever!

  • There is no video for this one is there?,suppose on bootleg audio though?.

  • Do you mean for the version that is 18 min. long, from Oriental Theater Millwaukee 1985? If you are searching for that one, it is only available on bootleg audio.

  • Yea meant that one,and thought so only on audio, thanks.

  • I gotta see that!!!

  • one and only Stevie!

This one, with the 'love speech' in it, makes me wanna cry.....

  • Me too. Always does. I'm crying now..

  • Live at Montreaux, baby! The speech he gives in this one is fantastic. Play on, guitar man, God is pleased with you.

  • fuck, Stevie´s the best!!

  • Tommy's wound up!

  • rock on stevie

  • I was lucky enough to see him at Pier 84 in NYC, he was an amazing guitar player.

I'm glad he was able to enjoy a sober life before he passed.

    Gone too soon, RIP

  • HE WAS the sweetest person you would ever want to meet. connie

  • does someone know how the technique is called that he uses from 4:03 to 4:16?

  • The hand of God

  • LMAO!!!!

  • @kcwolf3 Simply amazing solo at the middle of the song! I have listened to the greats as many of us have but no one I have heard can remotely capture the energy coming through those fingers! Hand of God! Absolutely correct!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • tremolo picking!

  • its vibrato picking a cord. prob the the easiest part to learn from this song. the rest, well ur on ur own, cause i dont think he even knew what he was playing. he was stoned outa his mind that night.

  • i have see this concert in 85,montreux....thanks for the video!!merci

    nicolas

  • What a great song... makes me just wanna close my eyes.. and listen....

  • Genius

  • There are many things people can say about SRV but at the top of the list has to be "BAD ASS MOTHERFUCKER". Every time I hear that Guitar solo that's the only thing going through my mind and at Montreux he took that solo even farther.

  • i have this dvd, awesome. its got great audio recording too (the dvd), all the songs

  • this has to be the best version of this song ive ever seen. beautiful !!

  • SRV, he really IS a good man, he stood for something positive after he overcame his addiction, that's what we all should do, as we overcome our own "addictions" we should prevent others from falling victim to em. it would really make life better

    this song really touches home.

  • I saw SRV live 3 times and he used to close the show with this a lot, truly one of a kind. RIP SRV.

  • You're the luckiest human being on the planet...I was 2 when Stevie died, so for obvious reasons I could never see him live

    :(

  • same here. im from his home town as well.the first thing im gonna do when i get to heaven is see him play. simply amazing.... RIP stevie

  • this to me illustrates SRV's charisma not only as a musician, but as a genuine person

  • The best I've ever seen (all 4xs - San Diego County Fair 1984 or so.. SeaWorld with his brother, 8?, SD State 8? and can't remember the other venue
