I think they are brave because evolution have not favoured fear in these animals because they are naturally protected anyway from their spikes. Hence. A brave porcupine is not likely to get killed. Normally bravery gets you killed in the animal kingdom which is why fear evolves.

I have encountered porcupines so many times in my own backyard; they are surprisingly very social and curious animals. They come right up to me and aren't even afraid of my doberman (she's a lot more scared of them actually haha). They even go as far as tapping and clawing at my back sliding door, knowing i'll give them corn bread :D

I've never seen a porcupine in real life (I'm not sure I'd want to see one this close!) so I don't know how they normally behave. But it's really weird for any wild animal to approach people like this. Wild animals have an instinctual fear of humans and would prefer to keep their distance. And that's better for them and us. I'm thinking someone must have fed this porcupine or done something else to make him lose his fear of humans. Yeah, he's cute but this is NOT good for them.

@ct92404 I have seen porcupines in real life... and if a porcupine, or a bear, or a raccoon learn where a food source is they will return again and again. Thats all this is. It looks like they are near a ski-hill and the animal has probably gotten used to being fed by skiers.
