Pompous, self indulgent, bombastically over the top and wonderful! The multitude of keyboards, the monster drum kit, the full orchestra, the full choir and lastly, and my personal favorite, the guy with the triple neck bass!!!!! Not to mention the twin vocalists!! Man, Rick knew how to do up big and bold and egocentric!! Rock on Mr. Wakeman!!! The best part is how serious they all are perfuming this ridiculous mess. The audience was slain by Moog-a-side!!! Phew, too much!
Wakemans a clever, and very funny guy, make no mistake, but I cannot abide this stuff or any of his other `projects`. I think I am allergic to `keyboard led` music. I HATE it! Anyway sorry to poop the party. Each to their own...
I have enjoyed punk, big time. But I've always loved early Yes, and hey... Rick Wakeman - he has made some very good music, some rubbish along the way, and reading his books made me piss my pants with laughter. He's the first one to admit that not all his output has been brilliant. I can appreciate that, and even if not all his music's to my taste, I respect him for those albums I do love. And for the honesty in his books!
(Although how someone can support Thatcher is beyond me!)
When did Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull join Yes? That's news to me! Lol. I'd say that castletriglav's original label for you sounds about right.
While we're on the subject, would you tell Wakeman to his face that his work is rubbish? I didn't think so. You might want to think twice before calling others cowards.
@Hypnopomp - I of course meant Jon Anderson, Ian was probably on my mind as I am producing a concert with someone that promoted Jethro Tull. I do not need to think twice as it is obvious that calling others names from behind a computer screen makes you a coward and a childish one. No I would not call his work rubbish to his face simply because it would not be polite to do so. i would instead state which works I preferred if asked but I have told artist there music is not to my taste in the past.
I had the pleasure of working with Rick a couple of months ago, and spent nearly an hour chatting with him about concerts I had attended when I was a teenager, an absolute dream come true for me, at 53 years old and sitting with my hero, a rock legend, will never forget, ever.
Pure corn..... he should have learned something from his association with Eno.... unless this whole thing is supposed to be a joke... in which case....BRILLIANT!!!!!
@castletriglav Well as he was performing with Ian Anderson and they were in YES together I expected they would perform YES numbers. It turns out I was right he did not perform his solo stuff. Can I just add that calling people names from behind your computer screen not only singles you out as a moron but also a coward.

The album and the concerts were both well received, the concert was extremely expensive due to the required support cast. There were three shows at Wembley. The album went gold, his 3rd consecutive effort, not bad for an album that was "poorly received"
What's funny about this isn't the video, it's the "this is why punk was invented" argument. Punk is like college: you rebel, become like all the others who rebel (now you're no different) and then you grow-up (like almost everyone does) and move on. I know plenty of "punk rockers" who now run internet companies and we still have our tattoos! If I wanted to listen to Pink Floyd I will and when I want to listen to Rick , I do. That's why I have more than one CD!
Good God ! This pompous overblown crap is what punk was a reaction to. I love Wakeman as a player. Love his work with Yes, The Strawbs and Bowie. This was Rick's mind on beer and way too much of it, Six Wives was great. Not hampered by rediculous lyrics.

I can't stand his music. Nor can I stand him. You listen to it, if you like, that's your decision. But after hearing so much about him being the greatest keyboardist ever, and about him being sooo talented, but unfortunately never being impressed by him even the slightest bit, I decided that I just can't get to terms with neither his music nor him...
Disliking his music is up to you, but there's no reason to dislike Rick himself. If you did some research about Rick you'd find that he's a really nice guy with a good sense of humor. Not only that, nearly every penny he's ever earned has gone back into music. That's why he's gone bankrupt several times to the point where he had to sleep on park benches because he didn't have enough money to pay his bills. Music is that important to him. So if you don't respect his music at least respect him.
Well, what's the point of 90 percent of all youtube comments, which are along the lines of "omfg, that's awesome!"? Plus, would you prefer I dislike his music without having listened to it? I was watching this video because I thought "hey, perhaps this one's more like your taste!"
Maravilloso, wonderful, aún conservo el LP original I still have original vinyl LP. ¿Dónde puedo encontrar dvds de Rick Wakeman?, where I can get Rick Wakeman`s dvd?. Gracias. Thanks.
They surely aren't proficient singers, but their voice tone sound very good in studio. They suck live, no doubt. But they fit this medieval style very well.
from my experience keyboardists by themselves make stranger music that most dont get but a few cherish they fill a niche and wakemans' should have been expounded on cuz epic storietellin grandiose masterpieces are a wonderful idea :check out hedwig and the angry inch
Musical genius, nothing today is set on so grande a scale! Rap is not music, this IS music!! Rick Wakeman is a gifted soul, and i'm glad he's a saved Christian, and i share his last name :)
As an Aussie living in London at the time I was privilaged to attend this concert. To this day it is still very vivid in my mind. To warm up the audience he played excerpts from Six Wives followed by the main feature which was performed on ice. Then for an encore he went into Journey to the centre of the earth. It was a late night and only one train was left at the station, it was packed Tokyo style. Great memories.
Great stuff Rick. , nay, difinitive. minimoog tones if a little repetitive on all those flourishes.. it always sounds as if he's about to slip back into journey to the centre of the earth to me...
¡¡¡Maravilloso Rick!!!

what was the point of telling us that? Nobody cares. Here's another question, why did you even watch this vid if you knew you weren't gonna like it?
ZeppelinFromtheLake 2 years ago 2
Well, what's the point of 90 percent of all youtube comments, which are along the lines of "omfg, that's awesome!"? Plus, would you prefer I dislike his music without having listened to it? I was watching this video because I thought "hey, perhaps this one's more like your taste!"

Great song, sucky singers..

They surely aren't proficient singers, but their voice tone sound very good in studio. They suck live, no doubt. But they fit this medieval style very well.

and with a slight swing to the right the Silly Party has gained Piddle-Upon-Tyne West from the Very Silly Party.
just a bit of fun, that represents a 10% swing to the Sensible Party, but not quite enough for them to gain it......

I'd forgotten how weak the singers were. It's almost endearing but hell it's not serious.

wonderful but also a little naff and I love it -- pretentious probably and fulfilling most of its pretensions.
(Not so sure about other parts, like Merlin!)

from my experience keyboardists by themselves make stranger music that most dont get but a few cherish they fill a niche and wakemans' should have been expounded on cuz epic storietellin grandiose masterpieces are a wonderful idea :check out hedwig and the angry inch

love the music, hate the hair. it really takes me back and I love the pop-classicism (tho post-Spinal Tap it's very hard to take seriously)

What's the deal with Rick using Ashley Holt on all his early albums? The dude has a HORRIBLE voice. Ashley Dolt, perhaps...

Great stuff Rick. , nay, difinitive. minimoog tones if a little repetitive on all those flourishes.. it always sounds as if he's about to slip back into journey to the centre of the earth to me...
