With you on the first one. The only thing i can think of is that the lino thought that Steve Hodge had got the final touch..in which case the referee should have overuled him, as he should have had a pretty clear view of it.
For the other one, Walters does appear to have strayed into an offside position.

before mid 90's..even a player in offside position without touching or interrupting play is considered offside...

I think your right. It does look like Hodge touched it but it's off the post.
Great video Stevo. Footage of Villa games from 85/86 are about as rare as Birmingham staying in the Premier League for more than one season !
