Ah, the good old days of SBS. Cult Movies and Eat Carpet, some of the best things on Australian TV. Bring back Des! I wonder what he is doing these days.
I don't think I would've properly gotten into foreign cinema without Des Mangan's intros every Monday and Saturday night. Late Feb/Early March in '99, I think, was when I first watched SBS with his intros - just awesome :)
How cool is that - presenters introducing the movie and telling you a bit about it. What year was this from? 90s era? Thanks for sharing - I crave for SBS videos for some reason!
Des introduced me to some of the best films ever made, I would never have known they existed. Des and Cult Movies really shaped my interest of movies.
I can't remember the last time I watched something on SBS, but I still remember Des' smiling face appearing after the credits of Armour of God!
yeh he is great!! verry entertaining!! i remember heaps of his intros like "killer tounge" "orgasmo" "patlabor2" "women inlove" "castle of cagliostro" "gamera" his final one was a godzilla movie
Where are you Des? Come back to us.

@raksh9 He still pops up occasionally, especially around Eurovision time ... alas, there's no cult movie following

If it wasn't for Des I wouldn't know about alot of movies, he introduced me to cult cinema, I owe him alot for that.
Not just Castle of Cagliostro, but Studio Ghibli pieces with Porco Rosso, kung fu with Jackie Chan and Jet Li(Once Upon a time in China).
I miss old SBS ;(

I miss Des Mangan.
Two of my favorites:
"Tonights movie contains plenty of nudity, sword fighting, and nude sword fighting"
"Well, what can you say..... fuck me dead"
(refering to Secret Chronicle Prostitution Market, which ends with a women having sex with a dead guy)
