  • I really wished she brought this song back on the recent tour. It fits very well with U Want me 2 and Don't Give Up on Us!

  • My favorite Sarah song of all time... Thanxs for the upload...

  • And may I add--she doesn't do ANYTHING on LAWS OF ILLUSION that touches what she did with her voice in "Vox." It showcases her vocal range like nothing she has done since.

  • This was her best song, ever. Period. There's nothing on LAWS OF ILLUSION that comes even close to it. She peaked when she was 20, a true Romantic.

  • she is one of the greats this song is very old

  • theres another version?

  • @KillingJoke696 canadian video...

  • Good song but a bit ethereal....

  • thank you Louise, you opened my eyes and ears to Canadian artist. We will always have our La experience

  • 20 year old Sarah Mclachlan: Through your eyes the strains of battle like a brooding storm. You’re up and down these pristine velvet walls like focus never forms. My walls are getting wider and my eyes are drawn astray. I see you now a vague deception of a dying day .

20 year old Taylor Swift: He's the reasons for the teardrops on my guitar.

Hm. This is Proof that Sarah is genuine, wise, & capable of writing a song that doesn't song like it should be on the Disney Channel.

  • I LOVE this song. And when I listen to it on the stereo I blast it.. But this is my first time seeing the video and I can't help but have a big cheesy grin on my face because of how retro this it is! LOVE the hair!

  • her songs are just timeless.. all of them.. there's no time in them. just now.

  • sarah, sweetheart.....awesome!

  • she is so beautiful not like all of these new skanks claiming to be artists...........

  • As in many of the songs off Touch and more that came in the future this one is channeled from a former life's memory

Her ability to hit the emotional tone of the event(s) she describes is what draws people in. Yet the true story about '....the words that plague her so" even she cannot relate to but by the artistry of song.

Imagine what that must feel like to be ever-searching .....no amount of fame or fortune can recompense

  • this ain't vox music :'

  • aw shes so young there.

  • I sure hope Sarah McLachlan enjoys creating and performing music such as this. From a purely selfish perspective, I think she's an amazingly talented artist and I hope she keeps churning out new material.

  • gooooooooood

  • You could just sit there and read the lyrics and it's still amazing. But add to that her vocals and the melody....I still love this song

  • jUST CANT EXPRESS HOW THIS TRACK MAKES ME FEEL, I MEAN HOW DO I POSSIBLY? SO NO POINT IN TRYING, BUT YOU KNOW DONT YOU? YES YOU DO HAHAH.

lOVE YOU ALL paul Elli love you to my son. xx

  • one of the best songs I've heard on Youtube, can't believe anybody would give this a thumbs down

  • @strangeuniverse1 this is one of my favorite songs of all time I just can't believe it really just did not get any air play. When it first came out I called the radio station and requested it and they told me no, it's not what the listeners would like. I'm glad you really like it.

  • @jamzcharlz

that says alot about the radio buying public huh?

  • she is beautiful

  • I love this song - fear and love - to a happy skipping beat. One of my favorites ever!

  • beautiful! reminds me of ohms in austin texas

  • i cant say i disliked this version, in fact i liked it but i prefer the original much more. this one has too much emphasis placed and scripting and impact. the other one is more simpler and candid ( for lack of better description )

  • I have been a fan since but only heard this song 2 days ago when i bought her greatest hits cd.this song is so beautiful.

  • how is the title pronounced?

  • @irishcatholicgirlie

    just as it sounds 'vox'

  • she used to have long hair! wow, its short! i love her voice! very emotional song~

  • To the other Canadians... Have you noticed how the US versions of this song and TPOH's I'm An Adult Now sound more polished in terms of the sound quality? I can say that I far prefer the original versions of both of them. Not to mention the original Canadian vids for the songs.

  • @mocat1 -

I'm not Canadian, but I have seen your version of "vox". It didn't sound as highly produced but it was a better video. The beauty of a lake in autumn is hard to beat.

  • This has to be one of my favorite songs of her.I just love her voice.

  • i shed a tear. and am reborn.

  • that video was in 1989?

  • Reminds me of Burton's Scream of Consciousness video - the Terje section in Hawaii.

    Oh, memories...

  • "....in which i've laid intwined"....i wonder if even SHE realizes that she got that line from the lamb lies down on broadway "the lamia".....

  • I prefer the Candian version of this video.

  • do you have a link for this Canadian version?

  • Love the song, but prefer the Canadian version...

  • すてきです・・・

  • Nice song!

  • Like the other version of this vid way better, shot in the Canadian West Coast instead of this phony, made-up, U.S. shit. Unfortunately, the latter is all that MTV can digest. How '80's, huh, with her gettin' wet and all? Rain- and showers-wise, nothing can beat the SRV vid, Couldn't Stand the Weather.

  • haha. she looks so funny in the 80s...but great stuff none-the-less!

  • mermaid

  • I heard this song for the first time a week ago on 80s radio station and since then I've listened to it about hundred times and still can't get enough of it . what a beautiful piece of music and so smoothly sung by her . have to admit though that still don't understand the meaning of the title and the what it is about but what a song . sounds much better without the video and with your eyes closed. simply brilliant

  • I swear there are Canadian girls who look like her that have that Vampirish quality.. Beautiful drainer...

  • So amazing...so good

  • A real talent, like the original singer-songwriters from the early 70s. Her piano & guitar playing are matched only by that incredible voice - what range! Great looking too (I had to throw that in).

  • You haven't experienced this song unless you've seen Sarah in a small venue with just her beautiful voice and her piano. I saw her at the University of Waterloo in the spring of 1990 when THIS was her only real hit. She OPENED for Grapes of Wrath! Now look where she is and where they are. :)

  • i know so true! i just saw her here in Ottawa at Canada day and she just blew me away, she has such a great voice, even live :)

  • if i happen to get married in my lifetime, i'd like my wife to be just like sarah mclachlan, she doesn't have to look like her or have her voice, just very wise and humble

  • sarah....baby....it's great.

  • i remember hearing this played at a funeral i went to when i was like 11 or 12

  • was this her debut song?

  • this songs

  • Oh how I love her.

  • I saw her at the U of A in the late '80s.

We got into a snowball fight with her and her friends between her early and late shows. She openned for the Grapes of Wrath.

  • Man I love this song!

    Too bad she sucks now.

Everything past Fumbling Towards Ecstasy just sounds like she sold out.

It's all uninspired music from her now.

Go ahead and thumb this down, spam it.

I don't care, because deep down you know it's true or else you would not keep others from reading the comment.

  • i agree,

i think its becuase of her divorce?

eatherway shes a legend to me.

my mom used to sing her songs to me. But once again i agree, some singers just reach there point of stopping. i might have reached hers?

    only she knows....

  • Too true EMTcorporation. Too true.

Her early stuff is inspired. Her later is forced it seems. But that could just be me.

  • agreed

  • EMTcorporation, when did she get a divorce? Didn't she marry her drummer?

  • i think it went under way at the end of the summer, sometime around there. Thats what the song "want me 2" is about. really sad.

  • I wouldn't necessarily say she has sold out. She has evolved. It is inevitable that an artist who has been in the business twenty years and who started at 19 will change. I dislike how so many people assume that once artists become popular they have automatically sold out. Her success in the U.S. didn't even begin until Fumbling Toward Ecstasy release and didn't truly kick of until surfacing. However, I feel you have the right to your opinion so I will not spam you.

  • Think what you want but IMO she could sing anything and make it sound amazing.

  • The Mirrorball version of this is awesome

  • i definitely have to agree~

  • I fall into the water and once more I turn to you...

  • She's an amazing artist. This song will stand the test of time. It's a timeless classic.

  • In the desert of my dreams I saw u there

& I'm walkin towards the water steamin body cold and bare

Your words cut loose the fire & u left my soul2 bleed

The pain that's in ur truth deceivin me has got me scared

Through your eyes the strains of battle like a broodin storm

I see u now a vague deception of a dyin day

    I fall into the water & once more I turn 2 U

crowds were standing staring faceless cuttin off my view 2 U

  • Truly Brilliant!!! This is a timeless track.

Actually most of her songs are.

I was just thinking...I've met many celebs, but I think I'd actually get star-struck meeting her. What an Angel!!!

  • I've met her before and she is the nicest person! I was in a choir and we sang with her a few times. They were such great moments. :)

  • This is the first Canadian song I heard and its GREAT, thank you Louise for introducing me to Canadian artisit.

Not only is she Canadian she's from Halifax Nova Scotia. GO Bluenose

  • hmm am i the only one that doesn't understand the lyrics of this song? for me it is very gibberish

  • i think this song means a lot of different things to a lot of different people...it's whatever you get out of it. do you like it?

  • yes!

  • Does anyone know what the ornament around her neck is? You can see it at 4:07. It looks like a symbol for something. I dunno. Any ideas?

  • it looks like a combination of two symbols the top part is taurus for sure. the lower half is some type of hieroglyphic monad

  • Such a super duper lady singer - I loves her! and so does my dog, SNAILQPINE!!!

  • There is an amzing version that is remixed and really interesting on B-Sides.

  • Sarah Mclachlan is quite possibly the greatest female artist in like history!

    shes beautiful

    shes have a amazing voice

    She smart

    Shes Canadian

    Lovee her soo much

    Sara your biggest Fan!!

  • i really could care less about the video..i 'm new to youtube and am just having fun. this is a great song. i simply think that sarah is one hell of a singer...i have been fortunate enough to see her twice, and her voice is truly amazing. i'm really hoping she will come out with a new cd soon.

  • Sarah Mclachlan is the epitome of goddesshood. Not only is she an amazing songwriter/singer she is so beautiful. I have been a fan for years and I have all her albums...I never get tired of listening to them. Her raw and unabashed lyrics are so awesome. She is one of the few singers who doesn't need backup to be considered talented...Sarah and a piano doesn't get any better than that! I love you Sarah, never stop making music

  • @sarahfan31 that's beautifull

  • This song is either about trying to find God (or religion), or, it's about being on 'X'. I can't figure out which. Any suggestions?

  • Thanks, msoto. I actually don't like it. I prefer the original canadian version.

  • Woah! Who's doing the phantom backup vocal on this version...?!?!?

  • From the Touch album booklet - Background vocals in Vox: Naomi McLeod. Sarah does her own bg vocals as well ;)

  • yeh the canadian version is better, but I love her :)

  • I read an interview in "Interview" mag.Sarah really hates this image of flowing hair, butterflies, and her riding on a white horse she said enough already! lol...I like her no matter what! :o)

  • Sarah.... beautiful and mesmerizing! She still looks great and still going strong! Thanks for posting.

  • This is my favorite song and has been for years. I also like both videos and it's cool to see a sweet 19/20 year old Sarah McLachlan. What an amazing musician/songwriter/singer. I hope someday she'll get back to her Touch roots and share her higher range again with her fans.

  • Canadian version is less cinematic, though both are excellent videos. An obvious distinction between budget amounts, unfortunately.
