redacted was a piece of shit. it was one of the dumbest movies i have ever watched. de palma should retire; he's proven over and over that he's a one trick pony (scarface).
Mr. De Palma brings up a good point. If the american people are paying for this "war" then they have the right to see images of all sorts depicting the goings on in Iraq, and the rest. further, who in hell has the authority to censor media to keep americans stupid? Vietnam was on TV every night, and in every magazine extant at that time. finally, if they have nothing to hide in the way of criminal activity, what's the problem?
@olaokolaok are you retarded? Thats the only possible way you still think 9/11 was an inside job. There is millions of engineers that came out disproving every claim truthers have made. Are you a solider? How would you know what's happening over there? Or do you base your "facts" on what you read on blogs or what shit stains like Brian depalmas puts in his fictional movie.
True Free energy devices exist,But Elite controllers don't want ppl to be free from the costs of energy,Find the real deal, a free energy device at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Free yourself!
I met a guy who toured in Afghanistan, twice, and this individual wanted to go back. I wanted to tell him he was stupid, but I knew he could kill me, so I kept my mouth shut. I don't support the troops because they don't fight for me, and most of all, I don't know them. It's what they do and I have no business to tell them what to do.
@Iseeyoursoul I have seen my fair share of lowness on Youtube. But you sir are the LOWEST. You disgrace police officers who put their lives on the line to enforce the laws we serve. And what disgusts me the most is you shaming soldiers of past wars and current ones.
I can tell I'm talking to a victim of years worth of state propaganda.
They are paid to murder, and me pointing out that simple truth is not disgracing them. Maybe you think honoring them is to hide the true nature of their "job", paid for by the stolen tax dollars of citizens.
What disgusts me is the million+ dead civilians in Iraq and elsewhere, men woman and children, bombed from miles away by these "heroes" you speak of.
@Iseeyoursoul I can tell that you sir are a paranoid, insecure loon who wallows in the shadows.
These men and women are heroes for putting their lives on the line to do what they believe. They may be guided by people you venomously disagree with but these are soldiers who sacrifice themselves for the US and people of Iraq. As for the Muslim extremists, we kill them all. Enough said.
Speaking of war, do you disapprove of all wars sir? Was WWII justified?
@bapyou What the HELL does a corporate state have to do with our soldiers?! This is an issue about our soldiers who are fighting overseas, not about war or corporations! I could discuss politics about war or corporations but I would rather beat myself than politicize the military men and women who serve the nation. It's people like you that divide this country.
@coyotefever105 "What the HELL does a corporate state have to do with our soldiers?"
The corporate state is the reason these wars were begun. It has EVERYTHING to do with the military. Military contractors constitute the largest part of the American economy. The corporate state is Congress in the back pocket of every major American corporation.
Eisenhower warned "Beware of the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex." We live now in Eisenhower's worst nightmare.
@bapyou There are private corporations that do support the military with weapons and tactics but you imply that the entire military is run by the "corporate state". The issue is not about the military structure or corporations. It is about the individual men and women who put their lives at risk overseas and the respect they deserve.
@coyotefever105 "The issue is not about the military structure or corporations."
No, that is what it's about. I know plenty of veterans who have come to their senses. These wars are about profit for corporations. Nothing else. If you think Americans should be sent half way around the world to decimate populations which have done nothing to the United States, you're a deluded sick fuck.
The idea that war is heroic is a fiction. It is immoral & degrading to all involved. Nothing more.
@bapyou To imply that I want civilians to be slaughtered is absurd. In war troops and civilians die. War is a terrible thing yet sometimes it is necessary. Would you say WWII was a mistake? As for Vietnam, it was a divided issue. I saw it as unnecessary but I would support the soldiers anyway. Afghanistan was to go after terrorists who attacked us. Iraq was initially for WMDs which was false but I think the world is best without Saddam. If you don't want to support the corporations, then don't.
Oh come on. "They sacrifice themselves" like any soldier goes overseas wanting to die for their country, they want to live too, soldiers aren't a special breed of some sort, they are just regular men and women who end up serving for various(often pragmatic) reasons.
I will most likely join the army in June(As a CO so I'll need to pass an exam) but if I do I hope I don't have any of your kind of 'Hollywood' Rambo style soldiers in my unit.
@dnbwhynot Hollywood Rambo soldiers? While those movies kick ass, they aren't real. I never said they do that shit. Soldiers sign up knowing they will experience a hostile situation that could get them killed. I never said they want to get killed or whatever you are trying to spin. I come from a proud military family and for you to suggest that I don't understand their families pain is atrocious.
I didn't say nor suggest that you do not understand their families pain, I'm saying that it's easy to glorify and mystify these "fallen heroes" and then forget what they were really about and make it a propaganda trip about the greatness nation and the war.
Indeed you did not say that soldiers want to die. Soldiers sign up knowing that they MAY experience a hostile situation that can't get them killed.
@dnbwhynot But if you do sign up, I hope you reconsider your outlook of the aspects of the soldiers. When you are with them constantly, it might do you some good. At least your not like those sick, paranoid wackos like @Iseeyoursoul.
I know many are good guys but you can't send 18-21 yo armed to the teeth to a, sometimes extremely, hostile environment and not expect some of them to snap or be a trigger happy. I just think that you should be careful in not criticizing or being hostile to criticism of soldiers because they are humans and they do make mistakes, and a minority acts down right disgraceful. War brings out the worst in people including some of our own troops, we shouldn't be blind to that.
Anyhow that's not the main reason why I take offence to this whole hero/self-sacrifice thing. I think it's disgusting that I might be sent to a place to fight a war I don't believe in for interests of the richest people in the world, I might get killed and then I'd become a hero for a cause that was never my own. Furthermore imho it's a very narrow view on war. Imho most soldiers aren't brave, heroic or whatever positive attributes usually attributed to soldiers.
@dnbwhynot As the son of a soldier, I am careful of labeling all of these men and women in uniform as heroes. I have the upmost respect for them. What makes them brave in my view is that they enter situations that are hazardous. Sure some might not like doing it but they don't run away from it. If you don't want to fight for those rich people, you don't have to do it. You don't have to sign up. But that's up to you.
I know that they might ask me to do things that I don't like or support but then I will do it for myself(they don't pay great but not bad either) and especially my men, basically every job has it's upsides and downsides. If you are an officer your primary concern imo should be your men and their safety. I can't explain why I want to do this(to long) because there are a variety of reasons, most selfish (as in any career choice) some not that selfish.
You know what, I've been thinking about this, since I might be involved directly. I think one of the main reasons why I act/get so agitated when confronted with these clichés is because imho it allows or at least makes it easier for gov'ts to be less cautious with soldiers. Since it gives a meaning and a reason to every soldier's death even though the real meaning and reason might be completely different.
The reason why I came to this conclusion is that I know for a fact that military and political decisions were made by senior officials that have made wars like Afghanistan and Iraq more hostile and unsafe for soldiers and imo that won't do. You can't expect young men and women to go over and die for their country when you(the gov't) are to cheap or ignorant/stupid to ensure that they have a maximum chance of surviving.
What I'm trying to say is that many people in the general public accept soldiers dying as being part of the war and it is, but that doesn't mean that a gov't doesn't have the duty to do their utmost to make sure that these men and women come back home and that they can complete their mission, at least in part because of the attributes given to soldiers.
I don't think that the public would accept thousands of dead soldiers if they knew that quiet a few of those deaths could and therefore should have been prevented. I think that clearly hasn't been the case in Afghanistan and Iraq. We went into both wars ill-prepared and without enough military resources; if you can't or aren't willing to provide your troops with everything they need than it's better not to go to war.
In short I think that somehow this mystification and arguments(sacrifice, heroism, glory etc) when used repeatedly by media and gov't weakens the soldiers position and makes it somewhat acceptable in the eye of the general public for them to be used as cannon fodder.
Many of us have stopped asking questions about deaths in war basically. If you send in guys without adequate armour on their vehicles and bodies, de-Baathification, not enough men and equipment, no clear overall strategy and nobody seems to ask questions about that?! That raises a whole lot of questions in my mind.
Imo decisions have been made at the very top which have led to the deaths of hundreds of Western soldiers and thousands of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan which imho is criminal. And imo part of the officials getting away with it is the general public are more and more conditioned to believe that war = deaths(e.g phrases like 'collateral damage'), so it's just normal.
Anyway sorry for bombing you with messages, and I hope it's somewhat clear what I intend to say.
@dnbwhynot No need to apologize. It's a healthy thing to speak out your mind especially on youtube. Although I somewhat disagree with your assertions, I do agree that all of us must not use the term "hero" recklessly. It's just the way I think and the way you think differs from mine. I respect that. If you do decide to join the military, I wish you God speed.
A couple of thousand NATO soldiers have died since 2001, do you think that they would think their death had any meaning, made any difference?! Do you think that anyone other than their families and friends remember them for who they truly were?!
Newssites just state X number of NATO troops killed this day; no more pictures, name, no nationality even, not a single word about these men and women, they have become mere statistics in a war we can't/won't win.
Shame on you Brian De Palma for sinking this low by bashing our troops. I love your past movies but when you call our troops nothing by rapists it's pathetic. My dad is a soldier and you have no decency!
Basically the point I wanted to make is that people can get dehumanised in a positive and negative way. I think it's important to identify with people in order to feel compassion etc imho that becomes very hard when people are portrait as a) being too evil b) being too good or c) or not as people at all (i.e collateral damage). But as you said this is my opinion and you can have a different opinion.
@coyotefever105 SO did palma called a "rapists" the SOLDIER on the end of the movie crying and with remorse and talking about his experience on the war? He's just saying the true about the war, not bashing any troop just telling the bad things USA'S army and politicians made in iraq. 9/11 OH WAIT THAT'S ON THE TOP OF ANY LIST the problem it was an inside job made by their own sick goverment in order to create a war to get the OIL and GET THE POWER.
"what happens within those formats is too fake to believe. The soldiers don't sound like soldiers; they sound like the cast of Rent acting like roughnecks, complete with cringingly false badass dialogue (''You're so goddamn white you wouldn't wear yourself after Labor Day!'')......supposedly based on a real incident from 2006. We can tell he's recycling his contrived Vietnam film, Casualties of War."

IDK WHY you guys idolise a child mollester, dig threw the records I read it in the Huffington post, HE WAS CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORN, AND SETTLED OUT OF COURT FOR AN UNDISCLOSED AMMOUNT OF MONEY, BRIAN DE PALMA IS A SEXUAL PREDATOR!!!!!
@172ndsoldier some prof would bi nice, cos, in process of make body double he admit that he hes made a porn movie to detect real empty time tempo in the porn movies (Umberto Eco did the same thing but analyzing texts and movies). But child porn? I`m sure De Palma has no such of influence like Michael Jackson and he would do his time in jail.
"wheres bill oriely i thought he would be here " HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHA!............oh wait it wasnt funny
why is it a piece of shit, because brian de palma wouldgive head to a fucking guerilla to make a good movie, unfortunatly he cant direct for shit, morely made, poorly scripted, it was horse shit
Instead of highlighting the people who REALLY make this war shit (ex president, Carl Rove... hell his whole cabinet) he goes after the troops. Who stick there necks out there, so he can go back to his mansion, and write his next shitty screenplay. U know he's had 3 wives? ALL because his cock is as big as a christmas tree light
Wow, I really thought Brian De Palma just did the broadest films - some a little bit violent like Scarface and Carrie and parts of The Untouchables - but I had no idea he had an interest in politically active filmmaking.
Yeah, yeah - it has a bit of 80s yuppie and American Dream commentary in there but it's still a pretty shallow film. Great fun, but not THAT much depth. It has the character arc of Shakespeare, but the aesthetics and plot of Miami Vice.
I agree to an extent. Its popculture VS critical thinking. I see nothing wrong with it, because sometimes thats the approach needed to reach a wider public. Not ALL people are politically conscious, especially the youth. This is a great way to influence them positively into thinking about the dilemmas/actualities at hand. But how can you say he doesnt make political movies? Have you even seen Casualties of War??
Casualties of War is probably the only OVERTLY poliical movie I can think of, which is why I considered it more a breif flirtation with substance. The reference to it and Platoon's tagline didn't pass me by unnoticed. It's tagline was 'The first casualty of war is innocence'. The tagline of Redacted is 'Truth is the first casualty of war.' It seems like he's getting back to the filmmaker he wanted to be before the studio system chewed him up - which is great.
"It seems like he's getting back to the filmmaker he wanted to be before the studio system chewed him up - which is great."
Excellent observation. I saddened that the movie made only 25,000$ in its FIRST WEEKEND at the box office. Can you imagine the infinite ignorance and stupidity of the general public? Its sickening how most people try to shake off what is happening over there, the atrocities these teenage monkeys are pulling over there. They just dont want to know about it. Just sad ;(
@obliviouspet Yeah I agree with you, and I think most people was so disgusted about that war, than they didnt get the point of the movie....(they didnt even want to) which is I think, the issues of a certain amount of young soldiers, not all of them, getting a hate and fear about the locals, until they rape and kill people...
if i was a republican, i just should say: "this movie is only based on a news in brief, and the troops aren't all crimininals". but the histerical reaction against this film is a proove of bad conscience. and if obama win in november, it's going to be dirty for bush's team...
Sometimes its hard to talk to these brainwashed folks who believe Fox News and our puppet Bush! Bush would have been a great SS Officer. Don't beat youself up talking to the sheople out here following the mass crowd of minions who believe this crap that the media and the current administration puts out. Remember when you go against the system you are always called crazy or insane. The hippies wer right about Vietnam and everyone thought they were nuts!
DePalma talks about the media being censored and that there are no "pictures." I mean first off isn't it possible there are no "pictures" of US brutality period, becasuse there are none of these atrocities going on. Plus the reason we don't let the media in is 'cause they fucked us over in Vietnam and then they wonder why the gov't. won't let them over there. It's ridiculous.
Keep walking amongst the sheople my brother and keep on believing the lies propagated by our Dictator Bush! If you feel that strongly then join up and get your ass over there! I knew the day the first bombs were dropped it was a huge lie. Bush took our once great country and flushed it and it's freedoms down the toilet. are you under a rock when you say no US brutality in Iraq? Drink some more Bush kool aid and sign up. Bush needs more drones like yourself! Bring em home now!
The media was showing the public what it really was like over in Vietnam and the public was withdrawing their support. How do you make the public support another war? By suppressing the stories told by soldiers and blocking the media from entering the airwaves of television screens worldwide. And it worked for a time...but they forgot about the internet, which is a MUCH larger medium than television and radio combined 5 times over (maybe more).
Saw the film and it wasn't even entertaining. Predictable and over the top characters, not believable. Depalma tries to do a remake of his "Casualties of War" film that starred Penn and Fox in 1988. Difference was this film uses C-rate actors and not one likable, believable or sympathetic character which the 1st film had. Too much one-sided anti-war preaching to the audience.
I dont believe its suposed to be a movie with a plot. Its based on actuale events and soldiers blogs. Its a movie that depicts what soldiers can be capable of. War crimes are a fact of life. They happen in every war. People should be aware of this and not automaticly think that every soldier is a compleat angel. People who suport the war either dont care or they just choose to ignore these crimes. This movie makes it hard to do so.
If you want people to watch a movie that has an obvious political agenda you have to make it entertaining otherwise only hard core antiwar viewers will go to see it. "Casualties of War" was a good film with complex and interesting characters which reached millions. De Palma did himself a disservice by making the film too one-sided and over the top and therefore predictable and uninteresting. People are not going to plop down their cash to attend a boring sermon.
you right this movie show us how poor the iraqi ppl is. butt it isnt show us how many US soldiers die far far from home and famely and how other soldier giving there life to defend ther country witch i giving mach respect to this kind of ppl and what their doing.
this movie talk to audience like US bad guys and iraqi ppl good guys.
I must say it's great though that this is brought to our atention. I'm sometimes ashamed that we the rest of the world doesn't try harder to stop this. It is criminal what's going down there, plaine and simple.
I see no difference realy from what the nazis where doing to the jews... shameful...
Iraq is not Vietnam, These leftist activist hippies assholes from the 60's keep forgetting that. Fuck them, Fuck this asshole De Palma may he rot in Hell.
I doubt you being such a highly opinionated asshole know that the muslim's who attempted to assassinate former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, used a baby. They knew she likes to kiss babies. So the assasins strapped a bomb to a baby and tried to pass it up to her. The bomb went off before it got to her.
yeah, I would like to have a gun if I ran into a skinhead in Europe, but a taser would probably be better, especially if I could hack it to kill. However, in the USA, there are way too many idiots getting their hands on handguns and semi-autos. Rifles are fine.
This is funny, and I agree that Europeans aren't in a position to lecture, because the English, French, Germans, Spanish, Belgians, and Russians have ALL been colonial murderers on an epic scale. Europeans are also very racist still. However,
they are progressing and we are not. They have better policies on education, gun control, environment, and taxes. The US is an unmitigated rotting empire, all power and corruption, and a decreasing standard of living for its citizens.
On dirait que les gens ne sont pas capables de voir plus loin que les idées déficientes de leur gouvernement. Vous gaspillez des milliards dans cette guerre, mais aussi des vies (et pas juste des vies de petits occidentaux). Wake up USA.
There may have been others not now known, but my nominees for the three bravest Americans in Vietnam: Hugh Thompson, Jr., Glenn Andreotta, and Lawrence Colburn.
the whole world is watching and critizising the way the us acts. Your way of thinking is the old way. Crusades are long ago. But I understand the way you think - your media is all private and run by people who benefit from wars.
But - is it really that hard for you to put yourself in the place of the enemy for just once ???
There are plenty of Americans who are very aware of what is going in our country, but the media are very expert at fooling enough average intelligence people to keep power spinning the way they want it. When intelligent people gain power, they are personally attacked, and often killed. There are also old entrenched idiotic attitudes in America. Europe is also responsible. The USA is the target front guy for Europe and Asia. The only power we have is consumer power - dont buy from criminals.
Imagine your a pagant living your humble life on the countryside...suddenly alien military sets up basises and patrols with guns and raides your houses. You and your family have done nothing - still a family member or a neighbour is treated like a criminal, taken away even, no one gives you detailed information. Would you allow another people to invade your country, set up military basises and violate your privacy ?Who is terrorising whom ?
Do you really believe that Al Queida attacked the WTC ? Who benefits most from 9/11 ? 'Who benefits' is the key question (invasion of Afganisthan, Iraq, Patriot Act, Guantanamo).
To me the US administration is an evil immoral bloodsucker. Not you as a people, the country is great, the achievements too.
We invaded Iraq To give money to sub-contractors who kick money back to politians. KBR, Halliburton, Blackwater, among others are the ones doing the raping to the US government. The longer we are there the bigger the cash machine gets. Somewhere in our history we went from a country that would not start a wars but finish them, to a country that starts wars and cant figure out how to finish them. And dont give me that 911 crap. Iraq had nothing to do with 911.
No they were not you listen to president dumb ass to much and watch way to much fox news. Afghanistan had the taliban and we pulled out like 70% of the troops out of there cause theres no money vacume there. And shiped them to Iraq.
Actually, the terrorists reside in the White House and the Pentagon. Bush the dictator attacked pre-emptively with absolutely NO evidence whatsoever to a country that did nothing but was a possible threat to Israel. Thats the core of this conflict, not our interests but those of Israel and there occupation of Palestinian land. Our dollar isnt worth anything and a lot of our allies hate us now because of that jerkoff in the white house! He is internationally despised!
you are completely right on the money. I am glad some one understands that we are completely at the mercy of Israeli interests, and innocent young American soldiers are dying because of it, not to mention the Arabs that are "collateral damage".
Amen Shelter661, 911 was Bush's baby when he brought down those towers. This was the only way that he had a reason to go there and invade a country that never attacked us and had no true evidence of WMD's. It was all BULLSHIT! Thanks for your candor shelter661! Anti-war does not equal Anti American!!!
oh yeah, we DID invade Iraq for the oil, and because we thought we could turn it into Germany, and push on the Saudis and the Iranians, and change the Middle East.
I have to say that i thought it could work, but A - the plan was executed by greedy idiots who had none of the genius of post WWII leaders in germany and Japan, and B -the best laid plans of men rarely work out.
655,000: the estimated number of Iraqis who have died since the begging of the war who would not have dies otherwise, according to a 2006 study by American and Iraqi epidemologists
Shore2222, Palma made this movie because he has a political agenda. Propaganda. It is the continual attack by these assholes to undermine the United States. Bastards.
"Redacted" is the most disturbing film released since the beginning of America's war in Iraq. It is also the most successful in expressing the rage of the occupied country. The film is self-described as "Visually documenting imagined events." It is a fictionalized story based on the documented rape and mass murder committed by US infantrymen in their attack last year on an Iraqi family in Mahmudiya, a hostile Sunni Arab town south of Baghdad.
Depalma is an opportunist and uses one crime to slander the US military. The criminals were punished. Do you think that Depalma would ever make a film showing Alqueda atrocities? DePalma is a disgusting coward and if anything happens to a US soldier..he is partly to blame! He sucks...Making money off of an isolated incident what a loser.
the documentation was shown on arte-tv and broadcastet in Germany and France in october. It was called 'taxi to the dark side' by Alex Gibney and I mixed up something. The event took place in Afganisthan. There is a web page to this movie.
I recently saw a docu. about a case in iraq , where an innocent taxi driver was imprisoned and tortured to death by us soldiers, some of them appeared in front of the camera to talk about the circumstances they were facing. What I was missing, was any kind of remorse . They even had a faint smile on their faces when talking about how they kept the prisoners and what they did to them. Only when it came to their situation now (they lost their jobs & reputation) they showed pity (for themselves)
This is one of De Palmas' Best I think. It turns the view point around, so to speak. In reality this film is very much like platoon, yet we do not blast that movie; do we. Anyone who blasts this film is ignorant.
Pal, COME ON! This movie is totally aimed at making our soldiers and Marines look bad. This film will get U.S. troops killed by the Jihadists. There was one rape case in the whole war. Why doesn't De Palma make a film about how the Jihadists brutally kill U.S. POW's, civilians and reporters? This film is ignorant.
There is nothing different from this movie and platoon. Amazing how people don't want to see situations they actually can do something about. Then again, Americans are best at sticking their heads in the sand.
I never said the film wasn't like "Platoon." It's just as bad. "Platoon", "Casualties of War" and "Redacted" all make U.S. troops like like Evil rapists. P.S. Stop drinking the Left Wing crybabies' cool Aid, Jim Jones.
I meant that amsterdam was drinking the leftist Kool-Aid. Brian Palma is a communist. He is pushing his leftist political agenda. He knows this will be used by islamist terrorist to fund hate against the West. This vile crap will be used as an excuse by muslims to kill Americans. Palma is a bastard.
I'd like to ask you the same thing. Blindly following what the anti-war Left and the Jihadists who claim the U.S. is racist and kills everyone who isn't a White Christian. And the sad thing is people listen to them. You know why. Because they're Muslims and Muslims have been so Oppressed right?
Yes, Muslims have been oppressed and attacked though out history. (Crusades?) Besides, the tens of thousands of minor conflicts through the centuries. I'm an Atheist, but the Muslims have a point.
I rely on indepedant media , yes independant american media. Thing is , you haven't heard what iraqi veterans say themselves. Random civilian killings and making fun of it , seeing the iraqis are sub-humans , drastic measures against communities like cutting off water and electricity etc etc..Youtube iraqi veterans and you will see it yourself , no islamic propaganda or liberal media there! Just the TRUTH by first hand accounts.
Sub Humans? This isn't World War II and our soldiers are not in the SS. Plus it's not the U.S. that cuts off water and electricity. It's the insurgents. And what do you mean by the independent media? NBC? CNN? Give me a break.

You're right, Brian. We are the barbarians.Evil on earth. W's cronies flew the jets into the towers. Al Qaeda is cuddily and innocent. Our bible degrades women far more than the Koran. Believe Rosie, Sean Penn,Robert Redford, Clooney, etc. Burn the stars and stripes...... until you need them. DePalma is providing ficticious propagnda to endanger our brave troops. He is a traitor. Mark Cuban is financing this irresponsible film. Hope the Mavericks tank again this year. lol. He is Soros Jr.
Are you Serious?! "Full Metal Jacket" made the troops look good. It showed the hell and trauma they went through. You can say that the film was Anti-war but it was definently Pro-Soldier. If anything "Redacted" is the "Casualties of War" of our time. Same situation: Making U.S. troops look bad and evil and undisciplined.
I would say more like platoon, but I understand what you mean. It will make an impact. More theaters are going to be showing it, and it is already circulation around the web. I have a copy running on my myspace blog now.
More and more people are waking up and recognize the crimes and the injustice of the american foreign policy responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths , torture , rape etc..etc..
"More and more people are waking up and recognize the crimes and the injustice of the american foreign policy responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths , torture , rape etc..etc..
Brian de palma is the man."
Are you a fucking idiot or did you have idiocy thrust upon you? Go fuck yourself.
All ye can do is be a dimwit about it and use profanity. I know its hard to accept what I am saying but just accept that the US army is the most criminal army in our generation. You'll feel better ,just let it go. :)
Nebulous1982, In early August of this year there was a comparison between the 130-160K troops in Iraq done by the New York Post. The title, date published and author are all there for you to look up.

History's best-behaved military
By Ralph Peters
Now as a Former Marine do me a favor, remember to thank either a Veteran of the Armed Services or an active member of the Military for your freedom to be as ignorant as you are!
What about those iraq veterans exposing the US army's crimes? If these people acknowledge it , what other better evidence is there? Random civilian killings and soldiers making fun of them , whole apartments being leveled just because of some shots taken from there , wives of wanted men being kidnapped and the guy threatened with the mistreatment of his wife if he does not turn himself in , cutting off water and electricity of populations who 'fail' to turn in insurgents. These are NAZI tactics.
You are talking about Jesse McAdams and the guy who wrote for slate, and retracted everything he wrote as a lie.
Outside of colateral damage, it is Al Quada that is killing civilians. And I agree with leveling positions that are used by our enemies to fire on Soldiers and Marines.
If there has been any kidnapping of jihadi wives to put pressure on bad guys turning themselves in good. I hope they waterboard the SOB when they get him.
And if turning off water and electricity are "NAZI tactics", I would hate to hear what you are saying about Al Quada baking the children of families that refuse to help the bad guys.
I am talking about A LOT of iraq veterans coming back from there and telling the people about the crimes. Just listen to yourself:
'I hope they waterboard the SOB when they get him.'
This just shows your true face. What more can be said? Too bad you didn't get ied'ed back in iraq but I encourage to fight for freedom aka oil so you can get blown up after all.
Freedom. That's just the word that paralyzes the american people and makes them accept whatever barbaric actions it may take. Iraq had nothing to do with 911 and they had no capability nor the will to cause trouble. How would iraq ever threaten the freedom of the american people??? Did you ever ask yourself that or were you busy taking ORDERS the whole time?
Frankly, Ralph Peters is a known right wing columnist and an editorial isn't a scientific study on who was the most well behaved military in history. Peters was boasting about how the Sunnis are all on the US side in Iraq just after some turned against some extremists, is that a victory? Aren't they still bombing US convoys?
The back of Al Quada has been broken and I cannot wait until our troops come home victorious, with a working government in Iraq, security in the streets and all of you on the left have to either say "Boy, was I wrong about that" or follow along the same path the left has always, "But my intentions were good"
redacted was a piece of shit. it was one of the dumbest movies i have ever watched. de palma should retire; he's proven over and over that he's a one trick pony (scarface).

@Iseeyoursoul I have seen my fair share of lowness on Youtube. But you sir are the LOWEST. You disgrace police officers who put their lives on the line to enforce the laws we serve. And what disgusts me the most is you shaming soldiers of past wars and current ones.
coyotefever105 1 year ago
The laws we serve?
I can tell I'm talking to a victim of years worth of state propaganda.
They are paid to murder, and me pointing out that simple truth is not disgracing them. Maybe you think honoring them is to hide the true nature of their "job", paid for by the stolen tax dollars of citizens.
What disgusts me is the million+ dead civilians in Iraq and elsewhere, men woman and children, bombed from miles away by these "heroes" you speak of.
War worship is ok for the uneducated monkeys.
Iseeyoursoul 1 year ago
@Iseeyoursoul I can tell that you sir are a paranoid, insecure loon who wallows in the shadows.
These men and women are heroes for putting their lives on the line to do what they believe. They may be guided by people you venomously disagree with but these are soldiers who sacrifice themselves for the US and people of Iraq. As for the Muslim extremists, we kill them all. Enough said.
Speaking of war, do you disapprove of all wars sir? Was WWII justified?

In other words, what you mean to say is this:
All hail the corporate state. Or else!
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou What the HELL does a corporate state have to do with our soldiers?! This is an issue about our soldiers who are fighting overseas, not about war or corporations! I could discuss politics about war or corporations but I would rather beat myself than politicize the military men and women who serve the nation. It's people like you that divide this country.
coyotefever105 1 year ago
@coyotefever105 "What the HELL does a corporate state have to do with our soldiers?"
The corporate state is the reason these wars were begun. It has EVERYTHING to do with the military. Military contractors constitute the largest part of the American economy. The corporate state is Congress in the back pocket of every major American corporation.
Eisenhower warned "Beware of the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex." We live now in Eisenhower's worst nightmare.
bapyou 1 year ago
@bapyou There are private corporations that do support the military with weapons and tactics but you imply that the entire military is run by the "corporate state". The issue is not about the military structure or corporations. It is about the individual men and women who put their lives at risk overseas and the respect they deserve.
coyotefever105 1 year ago

If you don't want to support the corporations, then don't.
coyotefever105 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
1)
Oh come on. "They sacrifice themselves" like any soldier goes overseas wanting to die for their country, they want to live too, soldiers aren't a special breed of some sort, they are just regular men and women who end up serving for various(often pragmatic) reasons.
I will most likely join the army in June(As a CO so I'll need to pass an exam) but if I do I hope I don't have any of your kind of 'Hollywood' Rambo style soldiers in my unit.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@dnbwhynot Hollywood Rambo soldiers? While those movies kick ass, they aren't real. I never said they do that shit. Soldiers sign up knowing they will experience a hostile situation that could get them killed. I never said they want to get killed or whatever you are trying to spin. I come from a proud military family and for you to suggest that I don't understand their families pain is atrocious.
coyotefever105 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
1)
I didn't say nor suggest that you do not understand their families pain, I'm saying that it's easy to glorify and mystify these "fallen heroes" and then forget what they were really about and make it a propaganda trip about the greatness nation and the war.
Indeed you did not say that soldiers want to die. Soldiers sign up knowing that they MAY experience a hostile situation that can't get them killed.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@dnbwhynot But if you do sign up, I hope you reconsider your outlook of the aspects of the soldiers. When you are with them constantly, it might do you some good. At least your not like those sick, paranoid wackos like @Iseeyoursoul.
coyotefever105 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
War brings out the worst in people including some of our own troops, we shouldn't be blind to that.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
2)
Anyhow that's not the main reason why I take offence to this whole hero/self-sacrifice thing. I think it's disgusting that I might be sent to a place to fight a war I don't believe in for interests of the richest people in the world, I might get killed and then I'd become a hero for a cause that was never my own. Furthermore imho it's a very narrow view on war. Imho most soldiers aren't brave, heroic or whatever positive attributes usually attributed to soldiers.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@dnbwhynot As the son of a soldier, I am careful of labeling all of these men and women in uniform as heroes. I have the upmost respect for them. What makes them brave in my view is that they enter situations that are hazardous. Sure some might not like doing it but they don't run away from it. If you don't want to fight for those rich people, you don't have to do it. You don't have to sign up. But that's up to you.
coyotefever105 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
I know that they might ask me to do things that I don't like or support but then I will do it for myself(they don't pay great but not bad either) and especially my men, basically every job has it's upsides and downsides. If you are an officer your primary concern imo should be your men and their safety. I can't explain why I want to do this(to long) because there are a variety of reasons, most selfish (as in any career choice) some not that selfish.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
1-
You know what, I've been thinking about this, since I might be involved directly. I think one of the main reasons why I act/get so agitated when confronted with these clichés is because imho it allows or at least makes it easier for gov'ts to be less cautious with soldiers. Since it gives a meaning and a reason to every soldier's death even though the real meaning and reason might be completely different.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
2-
The reason why I came to this conclusion is that I know for a fact that military and political decisions were made by senior officials that have made wars like Afghanistan and Iraq more hostile and unsafe for soldiers and imo that won't do. You can't expect young men and women to go over and die for their country when you(the gov't) are to cheap or ignorant/stupid to ensure that they have a maximum chance of surviving.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
3-
What I'm trying to say is that many people in the general public accept soldiers dying as being part of the war and it is, but that doesn't mean that a gov't doesn't have the duty to do their utmost to make sure that these men and women come back home and that they can complete their mission, at least in part because of the attributes given to soldiers.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
4-
I don't think that the public would accept thousands of dead soldiers if they knew that quiet a few of those deaths could and therefore should have been prevented. I think that clearly hasn't been the case in Afghanistan and Iraq. We went into both wars ill-prepared and without enough military resources; if you can't or aren't willing to provide your troops with everything they need than it's better not to go to war.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
5-
In short I think that somehow this mystification and arguments(sacrifice, heroism, glory etc) when used repeatedly by media and gov't weakens the soldiers position and makes it somewhat acceptable in the eye of the general public for them to be used as cannon fodder.
dnbwhynot 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
6-
Many of us have stopped asking questions about deaths in war basically. If you send in guys without adequate armour on their vehicles and bodies, de-Baathification, not enough men and equipment, no clear overall strategy and nobody seems to ask questions about that?! That raises a whole lot of questions in my mind.
dnbwhynot 11 months ago
@coyotefever105
7-
Imo decisions have been made at the very top which have led to the deaths of hundreds of Western soldiers and thousands of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan which imho is criminal. And imo part of the officials getting away with it is the general public are more and more conditioned to believe that war = deaths(e.g phrases like 'collateral damage'), so it's just normal.
Anyway sorry for bombing you with messages, and I hope it's somewhat clear what I intend to say.
dnbwhynot 11 months ago
@dnbwhynot No need to apologize. It's a healthy thing to speak out your mind especially on youtube. Although I somewhat disagree with your assertions, I do agree that all of us must not use the term "hero" recklessly. It's just the way I think and the way you think differs from mine. I respect that. If you do decide to join the military, I wish you God speed.
coyotefever105 11 months ago
@coyotefever105
2)
A couple of thousand NATO soldiers have died since 2001, do you think that they would think their death had any meaning, made any difference?! Do you think that anyone other than their families and friends remember them for who they truly were?!
Newssites just state X number of NATO troops killed this day; no more pictures, name, no nationality even, not a single word about these men and women, they have become mere statistics in a war we can't/won't win.

Shame on you Brian De Palma for sinking this low by bashing our troops. I love your past movies but when you call our troops nothing by rapists it's pathetic. My dad is a soldier and you have no decency!
coyotefever105 1 year ago
@coyotefever105
Basically the point I wanted to make is that people can get dehumanised in a positive and negative way. I think it's important to identify with people in order to feel compassion etc imho that becomes very hard when people are portrait as a) being too evil b) being too good or c) or not as people at all (i.e collateral damage). But as you said this is my opinion and you can have a different opinion.
dnbwhynot 11 months ago

Wow, I really thought Brian De Palma just did the broadest films - some a little bit violent like Scarface and Carrie and parts of The Untouchables - but I had no idea he had an interest in politically active filmmaking.
PurushaDesa 3 years ago
What are you talking about? What do you think Scarface is then?
obliviouspet 3 years ago
Yeah, yeah - it has a bit of 80s yuppie and American Dream commentary in there but it's still a pretty shallow film. Great fun, but not THAT much depth. It has the character arc of Shakespeare, but the aesthetics and plot of Miami Vice.
PurushaDesa 3 years ago
I agree to an extent. Its popculture VS critical thinking. I see nothing wrong with it, because sometimes thats the approach needed to reach a wider public. Not ALL people are politically conscious, especially the youth. This is a great way to influence them positively into thinking about the dilemmas/actualities at hand. But how can you say he doesnt make political movies? Have you even seen Casualties of War??
obliviouspet 3 years ago
Casualties of War is probably the only OVERTLY poliical movie I can think of, which is why I considered it more a breif flirtation with substance. The reference to it and Platoon's tagline didn't pass me by unnoticed. It's tagline was 'The first casualty of war is innocence'. The tagline of Redacted is 'Truth is the first casualty of war.' It seems like he's getting back to the filmmaker he wanted to be before the studio system chewed him up - which is great.
PurushaDesa 3 years ago

Oh my god, you not being serious are you...?
The media was showing the public what it really was like over in Vietnam and the public was withdrawing their support. How do you make the public support another war? By suppressing the stories told by soldiers and blocking the media from entering the airwaves of television screens worldwide. And it worked for a time...but they forgot about the internet, which is a MUCH larger medium than television and radio combined 5 times over (maybe more).
kensuke0 2 years ago
Saw the film and it wasn't even entertaining. Predictable and over the top characters, not believable. Depalma tries to do a remake of his "Casualties of War" film that starred Penn and Fox in 1988. Difference was this film uses C-rate actors and not one likable, believable or sympathetic character which the 1st film had. Too much one-sided anti-war preaching to the audience.
dn14789 4 years ago
I dont believe its suposed to be a movie with a plot. Its based on actuale events and soldiers blogs. Its a movie that depicts what soldiers can be capable of. War crimes are a fact of life. They happen in every war. People should be aware of this and not automaticly think that every soldier is a compleat angel. People who suport the war either dont care or they just choose to ignore these crimes. This movie makes it hard to do so.
shelter661 4 years ago
If you want people to watch a movie that has an obvious political agenda you have to make it entertaining otherwise only hard core antiwar viewers will go to see it. "Casualties of War" was a good film with complex and interesting characters which reached millions. De Palma did himself a disservice by making the film too one-sided and over the top and therefore predictable and uninteresting. People are not going to plop down their cash to attend a boring sermon.
dn14789 4 years ago
Well the big difference is sermon's run off bullshit and faith. This movie although a dramazation of the truth is still based on facts not faith.

He is internationally despised!
booeyats1 4 years ago
you are completely right on the money. I am glad some one understands that we are completely at the mercy of Israeli interests, and innocent young American soldiers are dying because of it, not to mention the Arabs that are "collateral damage".
obie1kanoby 3 years ago
Amen Shelter661, 911 was Bush's baby when he brought down those towers. This was the only way that he had a reason to go there and invade a country that never attacked us and had no true evidence of WMD's. It was all BULLSHIT! Thanks for your candor shelter661! Anti-war does not equal Anti American!!!
booeyats1 4 years ago
oh yeah, we DID invade Iraq for the oil, and because we thought we could turn it into Germany, and push on the Saudis and the Iranians, and change the Middle East.
I have to say that i thought it could work, but A - the plan was executed by greedy idiots who had none of the genius of post WWII leaders in germany and Japan, and B -the best laid plans of men rarely work out.

When you say "Iraqis" do you mean just plain Iraqis or do you mean Civilians or do you mean Ingurgents.

The thing that sucks the most is that Brian De Palma IS a great director, I just don't see why the hell he'd ever direct this crap.
shore2222 4 years ago
Shore2222, Palma made this movie because he has a political agenda. Propaganda. It is the continual attack by these assholes to undermine the United States. Bastards.

"Redacted" is the most disturbing film released since the beginning of America's war in Iraq. It is also the most successful in expressing the rage of the occupied country. The film is self-described as "Visually documenting imagined events." It is a fictionalized story based on the documented rape and mass murder committed by US infantrymen in their attack last year on an Iraqi family in Mahmudiya, a hostile Sunni Arab town south of Baghdad.
DarkTheta8675 4 years ago
Dark, this movie is bullshit crap political propaganda. Palma is a lieing bastard.

There is a web page to this movie.
siehmohn 4 years ago
I recently saw a docu. about a case in iraq , where an innocent taxi driver was imprisoned and tortured to death by us soldiers, some of them appeared in front of the camera to talk about the circumstances they were facing. What I was missing, was any kind of remorse . They even had a faint smile on their faces when talking about how they kept the prisoners and what they did to them. Only when it came to their situation now (they lost their jobs & reputation) they showed pity (for themselves)

What docu?
shore2222 4 years ago
This is one of De Palmas' Best I think. It turns the view point around, so to speak. In reality this film is very much like platoon, yet we do not blast that movie; do we. Anyone who blasts this film is ignorant.
amsterdam78 4 years ago
Pal, COME ON! This movie is totally aimed at making our soldiers and Marines look bad. This film will get U.S. troops killed by the Jihadists. There was one rape case in the whole war. Why doesn't De Palma make a film about how the Jihadists brutally kill U.S. POW's, civilians and reporters? This film is ignorant.
shore2222 4 years ago
Please, stop drinking BUSH's cool aid huh?
amsterdam78 4 years ago
There is nothing different from this movie and platoon. Amazing how people don't want to see situations they actually can do something about. Then again, Americans are best at sticking their heads in the sand.
amsterdam78 4 years ago

Because they're Muslims and Muslims have been so Oppressed right?
shore2222 4 years ago
Yes, Muslims have been oppressed and attacked though out history. (Crusades?) Besides, the tens of thousands of minor conflicts through the centuries. I'm an Atheist, but the Muslims have a point.

How do you know? are you a veteran of this war?
shore2222 4 years ago
I rely on indepedant media , yes independant american media. Thing is , you haven't heard what iraqi veterans say themselves. Random civilian killings and making fun of it , seeing the iraqis are sub-humans , drastic measures against communities like cutting off water and electricity etc etc..Youtube iraqi veterans and you will see it yourself , no islamic propaganda or liberal media there! Just the TRUTH by first hand accounts.
Nebulous1982 4 years ago

Awesome!!!!This is the going to be the "Full Metal Jacket" of our era.
ginandtonik3 4 years ago
Are you Serious?! "Full Metal Jacket" made the troops look good. It showed the hell and trauma they went through. You can say that the film was Anti-war but it was definently Pro-Soldier. If anything "Redacted" is the "Casualties of War" of our time. Same situation: Making U.S. troops look bad and evil and undisciplined.
shore2222 4 years ago
I would say more like platoon, but I understand what you mean. It will make an impact. More theaters are going to be showing it, and it is already circulation around the web. I have a copy running on my myspace blog now.

"and I cannot wait until our troops come home victorious"
it might be a long wait, the US government admitted in 2004 that they were staying for at least another 10 years, so that puts it at 2014

History's best-behaved military
By Ralph Peters
Now as a Former Marine do me a favor, remember to thank either a Veteran of the Armed Services or an active member of the Military for your freedom to be as ignorant as you are!
lthrneck2 4 years ago
What about those iraq veterans exposing the US army's crimes? If these people acknowledge it , what other better evidence is there? Random civilian killings and soldiers making fun of them , whole apartments being leveled just because of some shots taken from there , wives of wanted men being kidnapped and the guy threatened with the mistreatment of his wife if he does not turn himself in , cutting off water and electricity of populations who 'fail' to turn in insurgents. These are NAZI tactics.
Nebulous1982 4 years ago
You are talking about Jesse McAdams and the guy who wrote for slate, and retracted everything he wrote as a lie.
Outside of colateral damage, it is Al Quada that is killing civilians. And I agree with leveling positions that are used by our enemies to fire on Soldiers and Marines.
If there has been any kidnapping of jihadi wives to put pressure on bad guys turning themselves in good. I hope they waterboard the SOB when they get him.
lthrneck2 4 years ago
And if turning off water and electricity are "NAZI tactics", I would hate to hear what you are saying about Al Quada baking the children of families that refuse to help the bad guys.
lthrneck2 4 years ago
I am talking about A LOT of iraq veterans coming back from there and telling the people about the crimes. Just listen to yourself:
'I hope they waterboard the SOB when they get him.'
This just shows your true face. What more can be said? Too bad you didn't get ied'ed back in iraq but I encourage to fight for freedom aka oil so you can get blown up after all.
Nebulous1982 4 years ago
Nebulous1982 4 years ago
Frankly, Ralph Peters is a known right wing columnist and an editorial isn't a scientific study on who was the most well behaved military in history. Peters was boasting about how the Sunnis are all on the US side in Iraq just after some turned against some extremists, is that a victory? Aren't they still bombing US convoys?
parsecbwoi 4 years ago
The back of Al Quada has been broken and I cannot wait until our troops come home victorious, with a working government in Iraq, security in the streets and all of you on the left have to either say "Boy, was I wrong about that" or follow along the same path the left has always, "But my intentions were good"
lthrneck2 4 years ago
Al Qaida never killed the most US soldiers though, most of the insurgents were native Iraqis - that's something the US military admits
I predict the attacks on US soldiers will continue as long as you stay in a place you weren't really ever welcome
