@canEHdian1988 Sorry, let me clarify. He's underrated in the U.S., where I live. I know Matt has a great following in Canada. I wish he would come play in the states sometime. I've been a fan since early 2000s.
I thought this song would best fit someone who lost a spouse in battle. I thought of the back helicopter as a military helicopter that would deliver troops into battle and that the person effected was wishing to die "fall on me black helicopter." If you ever saw the movie Black Hawk Down (or witnessed the real thing) you may see where I'm coming from. As mentioned a few comments back, by cutthatcity, perhaps my point of view isn't too far off that the song was really written about.
The Anthem for the people Standing up for Humanity, Accountability, Integrity, Truth, Revolution and fighting the Sickness and Corruption and Backstabbing and Boundless Greed, Deception and Lawlessness that is going on all around us.
Cointelpro stands for Counter Intelligence Program. The Cointelpro was an intelligence program that was run in the United States. It was used to subvert social and political groups that government officials deemed to be a threat. The program was highly unconstitutional and was severely reprimanded.
Black helicopter is a term that represents a military take-over and martial law. So I think you are wrong; I would say this song is very political.
If I had to say, I'd say the "Black Helicopter" he refers to represents peoples greed in this hyper-consumerist society we find ourselves in. Then again maybe he was talking about a helicopter crash.
I don't think Dave Matthew is a sellout, he's just boring after you hear the same song over and over. But agreed, Matthew Good is constantly delivering amazing songs.
i saw him live in vancouver, it was fucking epic

It's the most intensely personal song on the album, and i love him for it.

Likely something more personal, and less political, like Churchill's black dogs. Matt suffers mentally.

Dave matthews is a fucking sellout and has nothing on Matt Good. How dare you compare the two.

I guess the difference between us is I don't care what celebrities do in their personal lives, I just enjoy the music.

did you not hear his rant on canadian music?

If I'm not mistaken is is a loose reference to the blackhawk down situation in somalia.
yobyzal 2 years ago
Is this a reference to Blackwater, the "security" firm the Bush Administration used in Iraq- black helicopters... killers who call killin' progress?
