  • A good source for some info on Japanese politics is the documentarye movie called "Campaign".

  • Japanese elections = Power Rangers ... Joke , no offense :)

  • i like how they organize it

  • love the car at 3:28! It's a Toyota Starlet Glanza V, lowered with some nice wheels!

  • I wonder if some people are just like YES I'll vote for you, now let me sleep, pleaseeeeee!

  • heh, thinks it´s kinda ironic that japan is known for silence and such yet they got so many speaker everywhere, they got police cars driving around speaking about locking your car and crimes going on, the got them at residential areas and politicians driving around.

  • a very polite Red vs Blue battle royale! lol :)

  • we have been here in Japan for 3 months. We couldn't believe those dam cars with the loudspeakers! We moved into our new place on the 1st of April and we copped both the local and the bigger elections one after the other! For 4 weeks, we awoke to it and then walking the kids to school went past it every day at the train station.

I am glad you did a video of this! It is VERY real!

(Keep up the videos mate! I have been watching them for ages now. My wife and I watch every 2nd night or so and nod.

  • Yeah if candidates did that here they would never get elected...lol

  • Maybe it's a blackmail thing..."vote for our candidate or we're NEVER gonna let you sleep!"

  • I completely relate to the shotgun sentiment you made at the end.

  • I'm so happy to know what people outside of Japan think about Japanese pre-election campaign. I have no idea why it haven't been banned to make such a loud noise.

  • OMG... that's really annoying! We had elections recently in Canada...and the most they can do is put up their signs on govt property (side of streets, street corners, and voluntary houses) and if they want they can make house to house calls (which might be more annoying but then again you can just not answer the door)...listening to them bicker about politics day and night must be irritating

  • Woah I got kind of scared when you went around that car and the other guy was coming the opposite direction lol

  • kind like old 1955 America parade they would yelling "Vote Mr. Doe for mayor"

  • haha i rember one time when i was in Kyoto. i was at a plaza and probably a couple of hundred people were there to. Yet it was complete silence, then suddenly one of these cars drive in and yelled through the loudspeaker until my ears hurt.

  • Can someone explain the traffic pattern starting at 4:40. Can you pass an automobile by using the dividing line? 3 cars on a 2-lane road?

  • @marqik ha, you're right, he should have let the car in front go first.

  • omg how do they sleep ? :D

  • I see the cars with the loud speakers and all I can think of the the Blues Brothers movie. LOL

  • Yeah, and since it's only during the election times, it could be bearable. But I doubt many people would be happy in my neighbourhood to see that sort of thing start here... I would bet most people would side with my initial GTFO reaction to it. We get the elections on the television, newspapers, radio, internet, no need to bring it to our street too right next to our house. At least we can turn the television off.

  • I can accept the occasional ice cream van coming to my street and using the loudspeaker to play a tune but if the politicians would do it I'm pretty sure I would pretty quickly tell them to get the **** out of our neighbourhood. I've never seen that done in my country. But if I would move to Japan I would adapt myself to it, I promise, I wouldn't go rude on them telling them to go away.

  • They need to incorporate more anime into their political campaigns.

  • Oh goodness! I would go insane with all those loud speakers all day long!

  • are there different parties in Japan like there is in America with republicans in democrats?

  • You and me both are bored to death with politics. When I tell people that they say, "OOO you don't care about our first black president rah rah rah!" I say, yea I do....as a person....that's about it. : /

  • Hello! I live in Mexico and I work with a children's home. I was wondering if adoption, or foster care, or whatever else is related to children is popular there? Are the Japanese very generous and give to charity and such?

  • Do they do negative campaigning?

  • I thought that the commercials were annoying! I wish I had a loudspeaker on my car... I wish I had a car, too.

  • Im such a caveman that i would be asked to leave the country after finding out where those people park at night and smashing stuff.

  • I find it a little surprising that in a culture the is supposedly non-confrontational and discrete there would be loudspeaker political advertisements. Seems contrary to the whole "not in your face" thing. And yeah, in other countries this would not only be considered annoying by most people but it would often be against the law.

  • I wonder if there is a japanese person who can actually call these loudspeaker cars annoying... I mean, they are so full with that harmony thing, bet they can't even complain. Not to mention firing a gun.

  • They really like their loudspeakers, don't they?

  • this is done im my country as well, its weird because we are too far away --colombia---

  • It was asked before but i'm curious too, do the parties attack other parties during the election, not like physically attack them but attack their policies during their or is it like everything else in Japan and really respectful and pretty much a peaceful process?

  • lol who did you vote for then?

  • My area's election campaign ended modestly, because there was a blackout by an earthquake.

To be honest, we had interest in the blackout than the election.

    ( ̄∀ ̄)

  • Best moving firing practice I have seen for awhile. THANKS JAPAN!

  • Nice to see what goes on in Japan

  • 0:23 I like the power pose that guy has, holding up his fist.

  • Do the parties to attack advertisements on other parties?

  • White gloves again!!

  • I really enjoyed this! Not only do we, the viewers, get a exclusive glance at how a campaign process functions, we at the same time...get a tour of Japan the common vacationer (whom visits Japan) rarely sees! ありがとうございます

  • I can't speak for Japanese politics-but here in the U.S.-it's like we only have the option of the 'lesser evil'.

  • @AaronDArnold in canada too my friend....

  • @AaronDArnold That applies in all countries and throughout history. People who strive for positions of power are usually assholes.

  • Thank you for the video.

  • This is interesting but after awhile I think those political advertisers would become annoying. In my country it is TV commercials with politicians bashing each other until the election is over also annoying after while.

  • Thanks for the video. Can you send out a few of those political posters?

  • This always reminds me of the Blues Brothers strapping an enormous public address horn to the top of their car to advertise a show. Someone needs to recreate that in Japan during elections.

  • lol it seems odd since compared to my country Japan is usually so quiet and things in general

  • If you blared anything that loud out of your car here in the USA, the cops would pull you over and beat you.

  • Dang, the Japanese take elections to a whole other level...

  • Comment removed

  • That would really be upset if I just got my kid to take a nap, or if I was on the phone. I am surprised that there is not a time limit... even telemarketers can't call after 8pm.

  • When you said "get ready for this" I was expecting something very unusual. I was disappointed when I saw the van with the loudspeaker, we have those things in Portugal too. They are so annoying...in Japan seems worse as there are more vans and parties.

  • i'd go crazy! oh jesus... haha

  • CERCL

  • Funny how in Japan politics are so much more respectful. Are there still attack ads?

  • wow... i always cared about politics, so this is quite interesting for me.

    Thanks for the video.

    PS: Shotguns? in Australia?

  • haha, what happens then 2 cars from different political parties meet up?

they boost up the speakers and see whos the loudest ? :P

  • I always wondered if the drive by loudspeakers were as obnoxious as I though they were in anime. Thank you for showing they are.

  • And I get pissed off when the ice cream truck comes bounding into my apartment complex..good lord!

  • If I was a politician in Japan I could probably win the election just by promising to ban the use of loudspeakers on cars during future elections, it seems so annoying having a bunch of noise mobiles running around disturbing the peace.

  • Would love if our politicians did this. We could finally lock them up in jail.

  • Interesting video! Isn't there something like a noise protection law in Japan? Not even at night? (In Germany we have something like that)

  • @JordanJETsoff I'm thinking.. white gloves might be symbolic for "clean hands".

I can't imagine a western politician.. well you get the idea.

  • Well they'd get away with the loud speakers where I lived if they set the propaganda to (c)rap 'music'. Then they can just go at it all night and I'd be the only one who'd think it's rude }:|-

  • Damn i wanted to ask about their political view ^^

  • WOW didnt know they were this anoying its like when circus comes here they also do this

  • Nothing like America where politicians spend millions of dollars to slander his opponents in the most degrading ways imaginable.

  • Just curious what they are actually saying on the loudspeakers...is it "vote for me mr X" or are they saying policy issues like "We will cut your taxes" or is it more trash talking the opponents?

  • At 4:40 you passed a parked car while partially in the oncoming lane. At the same time a car was coming towards you. Does that happen a lot? Where I live you'd have to wait for the car to pass, mostly because they wouldn't move over for you.

  • Kill it! Kill it with fire!!! ;) :P

  • the people in those cars would be dead if they came to my town

  • I think I would go insane if I had to listen to those loudspeaker vans for more than a couple hours.

  • The political supporters out on the street -- Here in Tallahassee Florida USA -- we have lots of local official's supporters do these on the street corners at really wide intersections (4+ lanes wide); will see if I can send you an answering video response if I can see one FYI. Thanks, paul

  • They are so loud and annoying, whenever I encounter these cars, I think "I will never vote you!"

  • hate politics ~_~

  • I'd vote for the one with the short black hair.

  • like it

  • 4:42, that's dangerous, is it legal to pass with oncoming traffic like that in Japan?

  • @BraksnenProductions wow I wonder how he even fit in there, a motorcycle I can see it happening but a car??

  • i vote for 22!

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

Are you considered an official Japanese citizen now? Do you get to vote in the elections?

  • I've actually seen 2 of them in Shinjuku? or Shibuya? It was kind of weird.

  • Here in Los Angeles they would be shot at after about 10 mins of this.

  • do they drive by their opponents main office with those loudspeakers? i would do that.

  • ah... those loudspeaker vans... actually gave me a sentimental(?)[懐かしい] feeling while watching that =)

the most remarkable I've met is the "smile" [スマイル党] party. I thought it was a spoof but they really ran for mayor

  • I'm am so sick of the van with the loudspeakers. It's like they are in my house screaming at me about whatever they are saying. Even my daughter covers her ears and says "They are so loud. Tell them to be quiet!!!!!"

  • Loudspeaker vans...pet peeve!

Can they make loud noise on the street after 10pm? Here they will in trouble.

  • Loudspeakers are the worst invention of the 20 century. It used to be difficult to bother more than a few people at one time.

  • Do Japanese candidates not do political rallies, town halls, and campaign ads?? For one thing, those three would be a LOT less bothersome than the crap shown in this video and not so in-your-face :P

  • @whoo689 They are restricted by law at how many helpers, funds, rallies, speeches and just about everything they can have. And they are only allowed to do this stuff 1 month before the election (I think it was 1 month, im not 100% sure). They arent allowed to send out flyers, make personal phonecalls or stuff like that, so driving around in cars screaming out their names and begging for votes is just about the only thing they can do when all else runs out.

  • Are you living in tokyo or other city?

  • The white guys, eh? Lol

  • Oh, I should point out the previous comment isn't me being racist.

  • White guys rule forever!!!! Blue and green guys suck monkey nuts!!

  • At 4.45 it looks like the sign on the back of the car reads 'Lies'.

    Maybe Nick Clegg is driving...

  • Just curious, are you allowed to vote? You know, since your a foreigner.

  • i know that their trying hard to get the votes, but too bad their the ones causing public disturbance

  • Hasn't they heard of disturbing the peace or is that a bullsh*t american law?

  • haha this video reminded me of the japanese drama Change. They had the same van with loudspeaker thing going on :P

  • Only a few weeks? No wonder they actually get things done there. Here in the USA it goes on ad infinitum.

  • Colorblind people have a real problem in Japanese elections...

  • Can u vote ?

  • what does the colors mean? do people get annoyed from the election?

  • Comment removed

  • Green guys, Blue guys, white guys, Where are my black guys? I really like the ideas you come up with for videos, even if they are boring

  • holy sh** even in the night? if they do that in my country, the first day they´ll b ok, the second day a bunch of serial killers will be in the news

  • So do they have "Free Speech Zones" in Japan? Like the BS they try and pull in America :-(

  • I lol'ed at the "in some countries people would be firing guns at these people" I just about fell out of my chair!

  • Thumbs up for mini trucks :P

  • wow,i find the speaker thingy to be pretty "unjapanese"(don´t get me wrong, not here to judge).it´s a contrast to the usual polite and quiet style

  • i'm rooting for the blue guys. hope they win!!!! *fighting*

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom you said those announcing-cars are every day around does that mean even on sunday? :C If thats so then they would most likely get shot down here in germany :D

  • Politics FTW!

  • ★★★★★

  • Don't they have Noise Pollution (Control and Regulation) Rules, or are they fair when it comes to election times?

  • Well it just so happens I'm actually quite interested in politics (I majored in it) and I'd love more videos on the subject in Japan, so I'm a little disappointed, but here's an idea: I've been wanting more from the Interview series, so why not do another Japanese interview on the subject of Japanese politics -- I'm curious as to political involvement and interest among the regular Japanese people.

  • Do people actually listen to what the people in the cars have to say? I mean, it looks like they can't help hearing it, but do they take it in?

  • stranger people (dont know the name in english "forei...") are not alowed to vote, even when you are living there for like 5-10year.

i dont know about today, but some years ago it was like that. can you tell us more ?

  • here in Brazil... at least in my city... is pretty much the same... some times it becomes kind of annoying... and in the election day they just trash the whole city with flyers... and the incredible part is that one day after the election the flyers are all gone... its awesome xD

  • I hate when politicians waste the time of volunteers. making them put up signs (signs that tell the voter NOTHING) and doing other pointless things.

    - these signs should be outlawed and voters should learn about the candidates through other ways instead of pointless signs. it would lead to better political process

  • I love how colorful everything is in Japanese politics. :D

  • Lol green, white, blue, sounds more like a war game XD

  • Here in Brazil they have the terrible habit of distributing small papers and brochures when they are campaigning. But what's worse is that most people not only do not read it, but they throw it on the floor instead of a garbage can and the streets become a mess...

  • what about to make some videos of japanese TV channel? i whould love it!

  • I think the concept of all candidates on a single"billboard" is a great idea that I wish they would do here in the U.S. And as to somebody taking a "shot' at the loudspeaker trucks;well, maybe at night time they would.

  • I like the super formal lady's voice.. Dozo yoroshiku onegai itashimasu :D

  • :S i would have stopped at 4:43 and let that car pass first

  • green Vrs Blu the new blood gulch

  • Not caring about politics - Word. Neither do I mate.

  • YEAH LETS GO WHITE GUYS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pretty cool. In the States we get a TON of commercials and some people will put signs in their yards or on cars..

  • lol at the guy with his fist @ 0:24 XD

  • @konoha4dawin I'd insta-vote for him

  • here in america, we just get politicians openly bashing each other in their commercials, and people with picket signs all over town...although some of the insulting commercials can be quite funny

  • Not only during election period but also in very normal days, we won't miss the presence of loudspeakers on the streets. Should be banned by law. I live in Tokyo where some Matayoshi Yes (Jesus) becomes active whenever election is coming.

    /watch?v=gfTpNrkdZyg

  • Very Japanese! I like it! Loud and annoying but at least they are polite =D Here in the UK the candidates go from door to door and basically tell you to vote for them. I prefer the loud cars to be honest....

  • can you vote in the japanese elections?

  • @ApplausableGuy I'm very sure he can't.

  • Off world advertising! Start a new life off world! Thats what came to mind when I saw this! LOL TY again for a laugh!

  • wow the speaker cars are so annoying

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom ...and Ishihara supposedly was re-elected again. What a failure...

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Speaking of elections in Japan, what do think about Shintaro Ishihara? He's been criticized on the internet for his vulgar style of governing. He also made a comment saying that earthquake in Japan was actually divine retribution. He's also been trying to censor the Internet and he's also made other comments saying that the Japanese youth have no culture at all. He's been quoted saying that cell phones, TV, and the PC has ruined the youth.

  • soooooooooo annoying..........

    especially those cars.....

  • LOL! In your face is right! It's pretty easy to ignore politics if you want to where I live although it IS all over the news. You just kind of avoid TV and radio and you don't have to listen to them.

    THIS... this is insane! =P

  • we have those trucks with the speakers here in Puerto Rico and i hate them, imagine waking up by one of those bastards.

  • I hate election time in my area, politician ads all over walls, electric posts, phone booths, even on the floor, and everyones carrying a damn flag or bumper sticker. Its the most annoying thing ever, and when elections are over, the ads remain there...

  • What happens when two groups pass each other? Do they turn the volume up? ;)

  • Im in tokyo now and im getting pretty annyoyed with all the loud speaker vans driving round.

  • Thank you so much for making these videos i am very thankful from your number one fan dennis navarro

  • Gah, after the sun's down? I'd feel like screaming out of the window "shut up, you've lost my vote. Now let me sleep!". lol

Horribly annoying if you ask me. I rather listen to crickets all day and night.

  • A loudspeaker on a van in a residential neighborhood at 3:40 ? Is that not considered noise pollution?

  • I don't speak Japanese, but that doesn't sound like political mud slinging coming out of those car speakers.

  • Those loudspeakers were...loud.

  • In uk its loca election time on may the 5th, however there is none of this who to vote for. Cos of safe seats here, the people who win all the time just take you for grandted and don't even come to the door and ask you to vote for them. I live in a labour area and did not see one labour canvasor at all in the last election. You might see them in swing seats such as where they might loose it. Politicans don't really care anyway :(

  • we just have election where i live and i must say that car thing would not work in here atleast not in night people woulld get annoyed pretty easily escpecially if it is a party someone doesnt like there would me alot of complains how far back stuff like this has been done ?

  • That must suck if you wanted to get to sleep ^_^"

  • Looks like politicians are annoying in any country you're in ._.

  • In my city they also use those loud speakers inside the cars all day untill the end of the elections, I was surprised they also do that in Japan ^^

  • What are they saying? They're probably polite, like all Japanese things, but do they say stuff like this other party sucks, vote for our guy, this is why he's awesome?

  • Oh man, I think I wouldnt like politics either if I had to deal with that all day

  • lol they're so polite ... even bowing to the passing cars

  • This reminds me of that video of you (I think it was you) looking out the window and that politician saying hello to you on his loud speaker thing. I want to watch it again, it was funny :).

  • @LotusDragon09

That was last year.. yeah, made me laugh too...

so I put it in the video responses :-)

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Are you a citizen, and are you allowed to vote?

  • Are the politicians any more honest in Japan given their "try you your best" attitude?

  • I read the title as Japan Erections - In your face

That was inappropriate, I apologize. >.<
