wow this is kindof like those choose your own adventure books, like you can progress through the story, but if you didnt get that item a while back, youre screwed no matter where you go. so even if you start over, youre not sure where you went wrong.

I've played and beaten this game since 1994, when I was a small child.

And yet recently, by watching your videos, I've been learning of some things that in all the years I've played this game, I never knew were possible.

The "ghost in the dungeon" way of losing is yet another of them. In all the years I've played this game, I never knew until now about that.

Why can't Alexander use the skeleton key to get out of the cell in that case?

@barichm0 They post an extra guard by the door because they're spooked by the ghost.

But really, the reason they end the game right there is because the game is already impossible to solve by that point. If you don't have the handkerchief then you can't get in the secret passage.

When the guards locked Alexander in the dungeon after the boy was wailing, will that happen even if you have the skeleton key?  Or befriend Jollo?

Yeah, they put a guard right in front of the cell.

The game is signaling that the game is impossible at this point, because you forgot to get the ghost handkerchief, and thus have no way of learning of the secret passage.

I see. That explains why Jollo is unable to help Alexander on the short path too because a guard dog gets assigned to guard the cell.

Because this is the DOS version of the game, which is set at a 320x240 resolution. The enhanced version, which boasts a resolution double this at 640x480, has the better portraits, but was only made for Windows 3.1.

Since I recently figured out how to run the enhanced version of KQ6 in Windows 3.1, I'll be posting both a playthrough and new death videos soon. But not on YouTube because it kills quality.

He's paranoid in fear of the princess. However, if you befriend him in the bookstore, he's glad you showed up and won't call the guard.

You can torrent it relatively easily but that's not always safe, as far as viruses and legal trouble.

Does this mean that if you do not befriend Jollo in the library, you will never be able to beat the game? So basically, that would mean that anyone who does not befriend Jollo would have to start over from the library all the way to the castle.

Nah, because they only put the guard there to look out for ghosts. The Jollo bust can be rectified if you have the skeleton key (first bust only), which you need anyway to beat the game.

Besides, you can also simply not enter Jollo's room at all.

@BrotherlyFluff This happened to me when I played the game back in middle school. You can still win by using the peppermint leaves on the Genie. He gets drunk and kills himself with his own spell, But, the ending isn't as happy because Alexander has no way of inviting his family to the wedding or even letting them know he's still alive. Befriending Jollo and getting him to swap the lamps so you can claim the Genie works much better
