  • my mix says to wear goggles

  • would've been a top notch video had it not have been for that incessant music

  • good video, n' I ask u if u know about resine epoxy n' cancer cases

  • really nice but .. it's a but long-winded for me. other than that, awesome! (Y)

  • I must be the only one that likes the music.

  • Wasn't this complicated when I did it. :/

  • where did you buy the resin ?

  • GREAT video! Thank you for sharing your talent...you have great teaching skills...BUT....I feel like I'm ready for the nuthouse after watching your entire video with that ANNOYING music in background!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

  • Very professional video, I was wondering.. a. how did you get the circles so perfect? Did you use a template and then color inside it? and 2, could you use book pages, sheet music, etc..what type of paper did you use?

  • I loved the music, I felt I was at Disneyland the whole time..

  • Very good teacher. Have you been using your Apple for filming? I just bought my first Mac Book Pro. Thanks for sharing, let us know when we can get the art work. One other thing, I can barely hear you.

I just bought my first Mac Book Pro. Thanks for sharing, let us know when we can get the art work.

  • John, Great tutorial, thanks! but are we stuck with the medalion brass mold? What if I want a personal shape mold, like a cylinder-shape pendant or else...my great ...

valuable question IS "How do we make the molds ??"

  • great video!! :) but why do you have to make so many rings haha you sell them?

  • may i know what is the name of the epoxy (there are many varieties of easy cast) and where do you buy it form?

  • this is fascinating. i have a project im working on that i thought i could use resin for , but i think i should practice with it before i try in on something larger scale.

  • @faroutjan Sorry about that. The voice-over is in one channel and the music in the other. I have found that the audio is poor unless one has external speakers. Bails can be glued on. I use Mod Podge to seal the artwork before using the EasyCast. The only thing I am mixing is the Easy Cast resin and the catalyst that makes it harden.

  • good tutorial, but as a teacher you would have students hanging from the rafters, ssooooo slow, very hard to keep interested and your whole tutorial could have been done in five minutes.

  • @sandrajiggles Thanks. It could have been shorter, yes, but I was pretty happy to condense the 4-hours of hands-on process (which takes place over 24 hours) to under half an hour :) I did not want to do a 5 minute gloss-over of what is an extended process.

I have tried to make my subsequent how-to's shorter :)

  • the second "mixing cup serves no purposed besides getting another cup dirty.

  • I actually didn't mind the music, but alright. :]

I was curious about the stands though that you used to prop up the pendants and rings. Did you make them or are they availible online somewhere?

Thank you so much, your video was emensely helpful.

  • @DefineQueer I made those out of FoamCore

  • I liked the music. =]

  • when i sometimes do it.. the completed structure comes out slightly bendable and slightly sticky. What can i do to prevent this?

  • @spiker546 That could be a high humidity pronlem, but most often, in my experience, that's due to the mixture being off a bit. Some resins can be touchy.

  • Great video! Extremely helpful explanations.

Despite the clown music, you have a wonderful voice! It's so smooth and calm! You sound like a DJ from a classical radio station or a child psychologist. :)

  • Personally, I enjoy the background music. It is just fine.

  • How do you make those holders for your pendants & rings? Have you tried any of the other resins available? For example Ice Resin, Colours, easy cast etc?

  • @CraftyNelle I make those ring holders by cutting strips of FoamCore, which I then use to make 2 parallel stacks (of 4) for the rings. I glue strips of mat board to a piece of FoamCore for the pendant holders.

  • @CraftyNelle Oh, and I have stuck with EasyCast from the beginning, but I like what I hear about some of those other products.

  • why the music? we can think without entertainment. cheers.

  • @anitasseo Have you tried playing it backwards? It's all for mind control :)

Seriously though, I did not consider the effect it might have when played repeatedly over 20+ minutes. I just thought nothing would be worse. I stand corrected :)

  • Thanks for the video. I'm making personalized cuff-links for my bf for our anniversary and this has been so helpful thus far. I haven't been through the trial by resin yet, but your advice about modge-podging both sides of the paper first was a lifesaver.

  • Hi John, Great video!! I have used Envirotex Lite twice now and I am not getting a clear finish. When I exposed my finished pieces in the sun I can see speckles everywhere, making it cloudy. I have tried putting the two bottles in warm water before mixing, but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Should I try with Easy Cast instead? Thanks! Mar.

  • @marcanocarrillo Sorry for the late response. That sounds like the tiny air bubbles that come about when the resin is mixed at too cold a temperature. Not sure what the temps are for Envirotex Lite, but I usually wait until the outside temps are over 80°. I have worked with EasyCast at 70° before with no problem though.

  • @pixelnoggin In my metals class, my teacher has people either lightly breathe on it or just touch a flame a cm or so above it to get rid of the air bubbles. Works really well.

  • peoples negative comments of the music isnt necessary - i think that you are a great teacher.thankyou

  • Thank you! Very informative. I kind of liked the music too.

  • I have to ask, where do you get your blank bezel charms and ring? I can't seem to find them in bulk anywhere?

  • @Worski Sorry for the late response! Try googling Amate Studios and/or Nunn Design for wholesale on those. They also have lists on their sites, I think, of some retailers.

  • Wow the sound in this is Mono it only comes out my left speaker.

  • I don't understand the point of pouring the resin into the second cup.

  • @sc7m The idea is that the resin that isn't mixed well will be left in the other cup. It just ensures that the resin you're using is well mixed.

  • me either?

  • Excellent video. You are a terrific teacher. BUT that music made me want to chew my foot off.

  • I think that was the point of the music... heh.

  • @lcd1023 Oh God-- ---, I am lol. your comment is hilarious!! very very funny.

  • The music is excellent, if i want to see and hear ozzy bite chicken heads off i'll go to a rock concert, but i'm here for instructional purposes and the music is just fine.

  • Great tutorial, but the background music is like Chinese water torture. I almost didn't watch the whole thing because I couldn't take one more note of that... "song." Eeee gads, have mercy on your viewers and lose the music. Thanks!

  • I wish I could change the music out :) Unfortunately, it does not appear that I can with reposting the video, thus making it harder to find.

Thanks for your input though, and for suffering through the music.

  • I liked the music : )

  • I agree, save the music for a music video. How-to videos should be talking only - the music generally just annoys and/or distracts.

  • @enoughalready2012 Thankfully I can still concentrate on the main thing :) I am way into making things and I would love to start rasin jewels. I have some ideas and it would be great. Pixelnoggin, awesome videos!

  • @enoughalready2012 Sorry about that. I blame Apple for making it available royalty-free.

  • This resin buisness seems like so much trouble when there are products like Diamond Glaze - someone tell me why you wouldn't use something like that instead when it is so much easier, and less time consuming. Is it a cost issue? Is resin dirt cheap or something?

  • Resin is water-proof. Diamond glaze is not

  • neat artwork used.

  • I work at a surf shop, can I use epoxy resin like solar res? That would be very easy since it's already mixed and what not. Anyone know?

  • i would say yes...but the only way to know it to try...get some 'mould release' to make sure it pops out for you...

  • Very well done.

I had the same problem with the sound--video volume, operating system volume, and speakers all cranked to max, in order to hear it.

  • Thank you for the awesome videos.

  • love the video but i had my comp and the vid on full volume and it was very hard to hear what you are saying

  • Hi. is anyone else having trouble hearing him in these 3 videos? Everything else on my comp is fine, just these 3 I can hardly hear him.

  • nope, he's pretty clear to me... strange

  • actually, the volume is really low. i have it on high and its very quite for me

  • @bellacrafts same here!

  • No worries about being thourough. It's good for beginners to see step by step. As someone who just invested money in starting to make resin jewelry, I need all the help i can get. Cheers!

  • wow, same here. lol

  • me too. any advise on smoothing rough edges?

  • There is a book that is great called The Art of Resin. It covers everything from embedments to types of molds, and cleaning up your pieces. I use nail files mostly, but in the book it explains how you should file your peices under water, I guess to keep the resin from heating up and causing a white ring where it was filed. Anyway, check out that book, it's about $22 and I got mine at Hobby Lobby. Cheers!

  • thank you for sharing this! i have been woundering about resin for alil while and been thinking about getting in to it so it was nice to see a video go threw all the steps!

  • wow. You are very particular. But thats nice, esp. since you are selling your pendants/rings. This was very informative. Thank you! I really want to try this :)

lol the music was so catchy.

  • you're so perfectionist... i would probably mess it up hehe but I'm going to try it!

  • oh plz keep this on here forever lol, its soo detailed and i want to make my own jewelry but i do not have the supplies yet, when i get it.. i will be coming back to this video!

  • I know what I'm doing this winter!!! Thanks for the tutorial - I'm excited to try this! :) :)

  • Extremely clear and concise.

  • Thanks! not sure I'll try just yet, but helpful to see the process.

  • Thanks Anniefannie!

  • Thank you this is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm glad I found you on You Tube!
