Sorry folks, but the wall design was a disgrace to those killed. Black, below ground, in the shape of a V. It is now consecrated by the engraved names and a sea of tears. It has the flag with soldiers to offset the awful design too.
@irish89055 perhaps you should read my post again... Actually in 4 days I though I would get more than post reply. Most people love the original design, though not a Vet, I despise it and they should have claymored it. Once the names were enscribed it became consecrated ground and yes, the flag and soldiers were added to get this approved... As a side note I was looking for the dedication on youtube from 1982, the documentary done on PBS, very moving.. I'm very proud of the Vietnam vets..
@irish89055 Lol (bennett?) and your commenting on a public video i can say whatever the hell i want to say. I don't have to be 35 to be able to recognize ignorance..
why not build the memorial inverted? In other words,as visitors walk towards the intersection of the two walls the paths would gradually rise instead of descending.
When people found out Maya Lin was of Asian decent, she received a lot of negative criticism. Some veterans felt that it looked like a boomarang coming back at them. There were satire like cartoons making fun of her. The veterans that seemed to be against this wall made veteran like myself look very bad. I do have to agree with you Mr. Robertson, what a shame.
Ms Lin did an outstanding job on "The Wall" and is a fitting tribute to my fallen brothers and sisters of the uniform. Among other things, it also got you to think of the many souls who gave their lives for the freedom many enjoy, and the freedom to criticize the very ones defending your liberty.....How hypocritical and unselfish, and this is what we risk and give our lives for....What a shame.....James T Robertson, TSgt, USAF (Retired)
Great to here. I watched a film about the struggle Ms. Lin was thrown into because this piece, and it is good to see her recognized and undisputed in the present as a positive figure.
I wonder how the students would react if they got to see a memorial with the names of the 2 million to 4 million Vietnamese people we killed in the Vietnam War.
It might be further observed that the war with its monument spread to Laos and Cambodia, resulting in horrendous atrocities, and that there was extensive CIA heroin trafficking which also included Burma.
I think when compared to the murder of an larger number of civilians in a shorter time span after the Americans left by the communist I think it would provoke a very sad reaction that the Americans never fought that war to win from the outset.
I wonder how you would react if the breadth of your idiocity could be revealed to you. That is, of course, if your brain could actually comprehend something so complex.
Just like the so-called Iraq War, Mex Amer war, WW1 & 2, etc, the Vietnam war was sold to the public on a pack of lies -- And no one in government ever gets prosecuted for it!
She is such a boss.

@irish89055 the flags were not Maya's original design. It's because she was disagreed at first so those people added that part.
