This is pure gold, man. My absolutely favorite song on the Woodstock album. Thank you! As for Warner Bros or anyone else restricting access to the world - shame on you! There are many poor countries, let them hear the music! Greedy corporate nerds.
@ChrisPawelski Christ, I hope so. But I remember seeing that it wasn't recorded, which is a damn shame, because I'd love to hear 49 Bye-Byes from this era WITHOUT the segway into America's Children.
@treatb09 A majority of groups don't sing their songs live as they do in their studio versions. I believe that he intended to repeat the line lacy lilting lyrics, losing love lamenting............
@gee4ce36 not that its any big deal, but i dont think so. as a musician myself i dont repeat lines of my songs, and when i forget verses of my songs and sing something to make up for it i spend the rest of that song trying to remember what i forgot. and you can see it in his eyes he messed"............" and thats what he was doing. i play this song frequently and i can vouge that the biggest part for playing music IS NOT FORGETTING LYRICS.
this ones for my dear friend jerry klune even though you are not physically with us anymore your memory lives in the hearts of all you touched in your life i am sure your rockin out and gettin high at that great gig in the sky we miss you rest in peace my friend
Neil WAS in fact filmed, at least for brief moments. He did an acoustic duet with Stills of "Mr Soul" , the original acoustic version, very heavy. Search for "Mr Soul Woodstock" and you can see him :)
Living proof that, especially in a live setting, a guitar can be a little out of tune and still sound killer. IMHO, the best recording of this song, bar none. This performance has found a permanent spot in my music library. =)
@Mhikeal It's not out of tune, Their guitars are tuned to EBEEBE instead of EADGBE, resulting in a unique sound. But, yea, one of my favorite songs ever, and a very good version too.
This and Carry On,from Deja Vu LP are my favourite ever CSN songs ,so sublime, the lyrics so honest...Like the outtro when Stills starts to scat-sing...Sounds surprisingly good live aswell 5/5!!!!
OK then, scatting in a foreign language hehe!!! wouldnt mind a translation though- Listened to CS+N 2day at work: made 4a n easy morning( or was it that reefer??)
Heya aww, thanks for the translation, ayavner(!?) i really do like the last bito that song: from CHESTNUT BROWN CANARY,RUBY THROATED SPARROW etc. until the outtro at the end:AND NOW I KNOW WHAT HES SINGIN ABOUT,hehey, good song to start the day with: lifts my spirits( well, that AND the morning reefer) ..thanx from the UK....
youtube is where i here out all good shit like this and go out and buy it on record yes i still play records one big old melting pot of music right on right on!!!
I was there and I gave my heart to a beautiful skinny kid with a big blue and white poncho and a voice like an angel. That was my epiphany. I have loved him all my life Look uo the new book 40 years of peace music and memories (kruses Pub.) it is awesome. Im also in it. Peace
you can totally hear neils voice clearly in a few parts thats why the harmonies dont sound as tight as when its just CSN. i wonder why they didnt film him?
Also, just to be rude and crude, I saw Grahms uh, what can I say, he was free balling. LOL Had a rip in his pants. After bout 3 songs they told him and he was like"What?' why didnt ya tell me earlier" was kinda fun though. LOL
49 65 HIKE! wish I could have been there. I did have the privalege of seeing them in??? 76-77. LOL It was the 70's what can I say. traded an ozie for back stage passes?
he was there, he just wasn't filmed, the audio on this video is uncut, so you hear the announcer clearly say "Crosby, Stills and Nash...... and Young"
Anyone know the actual *source* for the audio. I'm trying to find info on whoever created that monster bootleg, and I'm running into two different ones. The Havens to Hendrix one, which I just downloaded in crappy 320 kbps mp3 (where's the lossless!!!), doesn't site it's sources, and the other one (Complete Woodstock Bootleg) sources the box set, which is *not* this version. I'd love to find it in "real" CD quality somewhere.
The source of the audio on this video was from a FLAC copy of the Havens to Hendrix bootleg, though I actually got it from some guy in the USA (I live in the UK), who sent me the bootleg on 2 DVD+Rs, there is definitely a FLAC torrent out there somewhere!
@420419420 Hah! Brilliant! I've been on what.cd for quite a while now (albeit with a pretty crap ratio), and hadn't even thought to look. Gonna go do that now!
Neil was there. He refused to be filmed as he thought the cameras were a distraction from the music and he didn't like the way Stills was playing to the camera. In fact, Neil offered to El Kabong anyone who came near him with a camera. This is all in "Shakey", McDonough's book of interviews with Neil, and you'll also find it in some Rolling Stone articles.
haha yeah I realized it too when I first listened to it on the woodstock LP! I've a question! WHERE have you found the entire CSNY woodstock bootleg?? I couldn't find it anywhere! thanks for post it anyway
7:15 is my favourite part from this song.. !! :-)

Well, i see no one responded so I'll take a stab - I'd butcher the Spanish, so here's what I believe it means in English:
How happy it makes me to think of Cuba, the Queen of the Caribbean Sea. What sunny skies they have, and how sad I am that I cannot go, oh go! oh go!
I think it was probably a jab at the Cuba policy dating from the 50s??

The fact it says "Woodstock 1969" is a big hint that it's live!
I think WMG has removed all other versions, and currently, this gets through on a technicality (it sounds better than their original DVD release)
