On that first strike with the middle finger, does the sound happen when the nail strikes the string, like a hammered dulcimer, or when the nail slides off the string and the string "clicks" on the edge of the nail, similar to a pick? I've checked several sources and the only reference I've found that gives me a clue is in The How and the Tao, "Let the string sort of snap off your middle fingernail." Some clarification would really help me get started.
@chrisrobertsullivan hey i had the EXACT same problem, and still do! but i was given some good advise - play LOUD and keep playing, im starting to correct that shit, but my strum is backwards! hee hee. just keep playing i guess and f:@k the begrudgers;)
