Hey, what is the best way for exporting videos from Final Cut Pro 6 that keeps it's HD(HDV 720p) quality and is good for uploading to youtube? (and keeps the storage of that exported file down)?
Thank you for any good exporting tips!
..Hey, this could be a good and useful subject for a new video! (Final Cut and imovie exporting tips?)
@MattsMacintosh, is there a way to select clips in FCPX similar to how its done in iMovie? Whenever I select a clip in FCPX from an event it selects the whole clip regardless where I click on the clip. I would like to set it up so that when I select a clip, its selects the part of the clip I click on (similar to iMovie). I would appreciate the help. Thanks!
You should change the title to 'Convert Final Cut Pro 7 Projects to X!' or something. At the moment, it seems to me like it is a 'progressing from FCP7 to X' kind of title. Just a suggestion, loved the video.
@wonderwall135 While the term didn't become common place until the proliferation of smart phones, Apple has actually been calling programs "apps" since the 80s. Its actually a good way distinguish between operating level software and user activity programs.
@wonderwall135 Ok, such as....I just want to know if I should pay the $300 for something for my channel...like does it add more effects or what exactly does it do? Right now, I make my videos in iMovie just fine, so do I need FCP? What does it do?
Dude... you can't EXPORT projects from iMovie to FCP. You simply transfer the project via iTunes from iMovie iPad to iMovie Mac, open it once in iMovie, then simply use the IMPORT IMOVIE PROJECT command in FCP X.
@MattsMacintosh Awesome, thanks for the advice. Now, i don't expect you to respond to this one, but i am gonna write it anyways. I have a 13 inch macbook pro 2010 model, and now i want to upgrade its HDD to SSD. I have no idea on which SSD drive that fits my model, and how i get it.. If you can, it would be awesome to drop me a link or something with a drive that fits my mac. Would be awesome if it was a 240/256 GB drive.. Thanks Matt.
You ask MATT on YOUTUBE for some moronic buying advice??? LOL!! Have you ever heard the term "MAC DEALER"? Or maybe "GOOGLE"??? McFly?? I'd say Matt has FAR better things to do...
@mp4podcastDOTcom Many editors are saying its the future, but it's a little too soon for people doing this stuff on a day to day basis as the jump is so big. As things go more digital this will start to show its real power, so it's worth learning even if it's just as a side project and you're not actually doing proper jobs with it yet. If for no other reason than to expand your skill set for potential future employers.
I really like the irony that Adobe Premiere can use your XMLs and open your FCP7 project straight away while you have to use a third party program in FCPX
Hey Matt ! Just asking, do you use magic lantern or have you tried it out and what are your experiences with it if you have tried it out. If you do not use it, do you intend to try it out in the future ?
@TheLilmonn iMovie HD (or iMovie 6) has the old school feel and look to it which iMovie had since version 1.0 ...... it has more effects and has the long time line feature that all PRO video editing software has... But with iMovie '11 it looks easier to use, less intimidating when you first try using it and looks friendlier..

Matt, would this be the same procedure if you were to transfer a file edited on an iPad (using the iMovie app) to an iMac?
misscrabtree 3 weeks ago
@misscrabtree No. To take an iOS iMovie project to FCP, you would need to export it through iTunes, open it in OSX iMovie, then export it to FCP.

Just out of curiosity, does this work with Final Cut Express?
And also, is there a way to go from X to 7.
Not that it really matters to me, when FCP X came out, I finished what I was already doing in Express and immediately gave up on it after that.
LOTRzagorath 3 weeks ago
Hey Matt! Are you going to do a multicam tutorial for FCPX any time soon? Would love to see it in action.
