There's a neigh such as the "Hi, buddies!", there is a whinny such as the, "I'm hungry", there's a low roar such as the, "I am VERY hungry FEED ME NOW!", and then there is the ever-amusing, grating on the ears of the chaser, "Eat my dust!"
if your horse runs from you they have little trust and respect for you and you should work on that but never bribe them with food or treats you will spoil and ruin your horse. correct this while you can. i am a horse trainer and am working with a mare who has this problem because of being bribed and spoiled.
My was worse there were 10 horses in the pasture and you would get almost trampled just from them running away some days i would try catching her for almost an hour now shes with only 3 other horses and its still hard!
heh, I looked after a horse once that had the art of walking away from you just faster than you were walking towards him down to an art! i found the best trick was to pet the other horse in his field, make like you didn't want to talk to him at all! He'd come straight over to see why you were talking to the other horse
tips are hide the halter and lead rope behind your back, have a treat/carrot/peppermint/apple etc. in your hand in front of you, slowly walk up to your horse, talk to him in a gentle, quiet voice to let him know you're there, dont look him in the eye as you feed him the treat and gently slip on the halter =]
LOL that he ran off to the furthest end of the field xD Seriously though, first of all, don't walk up to him with a camera, that's just weird. Secondly, don't RUN to him, that'll just scare him (If a mean looking dog starts running straight at you, you're going to instinctively back off and look for the nearest exit, even if from your experience you know that most dogs will not harm you). You need to keep him in a smaller field, and bring lots of food with you, and walk up to him calmly.
@curiosityshop i always take a bucket of feed with me and i never usually take a camera with me, the girl decided to film it who was helping me catch. i dont have this horse anymore, he just on lease but there was no way to keep him in a smaller field and i never ran up to him, was always calm slowly. he is alot better now though, practicaly walks up to me whenever i go visit him :)
my old horse lunged at me like everytime i went to catch him ooooh he was a bad arse lol i was gnna tae him to pony club one day and i was out for bout 2 hours trying to catch him and he ran at me and reared up..he was mental lmao but he had been turned out fa 2 years before that in the hills and no1 was out there so he kinda got used to no one around but horses lol BUT HE ALL GOOD NOW! =D cute horse btw =]

@curiosityshop You shouldn't need food to catch your horse. SO you are wrong too, so stop criticising

Ummm. If you run up to a horse their instint kicks in and he thinks of you as a predator. Of course he was hard to catch!
