LOL first off, it is beautiful in the artistry that it is, the original, while quite wonderfully done, lacks the sheer sexyness that this embodies, speaking as a DJ myself, no, this is not really a clunny upbeat version, i rather like closing sets with it on slower nights. Let me tell you, line up NIN Closer, fade into this in about a 6 second fade (just start right as th last piano cords of it start), and fade to Enigma principles of lust just after he finishes speaking,
Ok ..... heard this for the first time 2 hours ago, have been playing it non-stop since then. Sounds exactly like Shirley Manson/Garbage to me ..... but ....... this is totally amazing ! Absolutely fantstic ! I'd love to hear Beth Gibbons of Portishead do a version of this and give it the full-on trip-hop treatment.
As has been mentioned, this is NOT the original version of the song. It's the 2001 Remix with Daniel reading from House of Leaves. I prefer the original, but mostly because this one (the remix) is the one you hear all the damn time.
the poem is actually a stream of consciousness from Mark Z Danielewski's novel House of Leaves. he is Poe's brother and her Haunted album was created to coincide with the novel.
You're not serious. Please tell me you're kidding me..this remix is tripe! Poe has such a great voice in the verses not just the chorus, the original's the best - he can keep his silly poem to himself.
I really liked how the spoken words brought it all together. Narrative lyrics have always held my interest more than generic ones, and the way the musical chorus was integrated into the poem was very effective. I also find this version to be much less confusing. The other was like a snapshot taken in the middle of an event, while this is the whole event.
I'm not saying that she didn't sing the other version well; I just don't like it as much.
Oops, forgot to add: Some may not agree, yet when I first heard this it reminded me (the narration) of SinCity the movie..

Yeah, it's the drive by mix from Haunted. I like it so much better than the original. (loudly, while driving through mountains)

Great song. Reminds me of pre-9/11 2001!

Maybe you should listen to the Haunted album rather than relying on single releases...
