@2001ambee Uhmm, for your information, we spend thousands of dollars on our dogs, and we rarely win anything from shows, and when we do, it's not even half of what we had to spend on traveling, hotel fees, gas, entry fees etc. etc. etc. We feed our dogs the best food possible, exercise them mentally & physically daily, and do everything we can to make them happy, for most of us, they really are our best friends, and the majority of dogs love going to shows.

For all those know nothing complainers and "ooh, the poor doggies" people, it's not cruel, cruel is getting a German Shepherd or Border Collie, or high energy dog like that, and only giving a puny little walk, and teaching it sit or something. These dogs may not love the grooming part, but neither does any animal, they are really not hurting the dogs. I show dogs, and trust me, they love being shown, and pampered and getting all the attention.Before you criticize, learn about it first. Please!

I spend a lot of time studying dog behavior and physiology, work with a Horse & Dog Sports medicine & Rehab specialist, keep up to date on all the new training methods, and I show Curly-Coated Retrievers in Conformation, my Beagle in Agility, and my GSD in Schutzhund, Obedience, Tracking and Search & Rescue. I train with some of the world's best trainers, and at 15, I already have a 4-year college degree.

@ShannonSearson True, some dogs don't enjoy showing, but the majority of dogs love going to shows. When mine get to the show site, they are sooo excited, we both love it. Of course, there are always the bad apples in the bunch, rough handlers, unscrupulous handlers & handlers that only care about winning, but they don't last long, and rarely experience success. The majority of us do it because we love our dogs and the breed. They are truly our Best Friends, that just go to shows occasionally.

Either the dogs white or it's not. I don't like people falsley portraying the dogs. I can understand grooming standards in long haired dogs etc but don't alter it's colour.

Also, why the heck is everyone acting like this is animal cruelty? These dogs are spoiled rotten. If the owner thinks you hurt their dog in any form they will knock you silly. Not that they hurt their own dogs! They get only the best, and their well being is the most important thing about dog showing. Also, some of the ranked dogs work in the fields like an other farm dog. One winner of wesminster is a therapy dog. I hate it when people say stuff about this when they have do experience.

They aren't. They actually usually love to show. They probably look that way due to the fact that they are up on the table getting hot air blown at them which sometimes makes them sleepy. If the owners didn't train the dog early enough, then they sometimes hate the table but showing is something that is always fun.

I hope, jonie1515, that you reported the handler and breeder to the AKC. This sort of treatment should not be tolerated and is not condoned by the AKC. Most owners/handlers/breeders are careful of their dogs; it's in their best interest otherwise the animals develop a poor temperament and that can cause loss of points in the ring and make it problematic for breeding. Aside from that most reputable owners/handlers/breeders care for their dogs on an emotional level.

Thats called hand stripping, show and pet owners do it to wire haired terriers. it recommended as the coat can matt easly if not stript.! it doesn't hurt the dog!

i am a dog groomer and my boss is a very well known certified dog groomer she use to show her own poodle but has now retired from that and the poodle is fine comes to work with her everyday............please dont classify everyone into one group not all dog groomers/breeders/showers are bad

people try and get the best dog/bich out of the litter of pups and if one has a single thing wrong wif it they kill it beacuse its not perfect. who wants perfecton? whats is normal?Not many people know about it, they think its harmless but guess what...ITS NOT!dogs arn't ment to be perfect!so what if they have mud in there coat and are aloud to roll in cow and horse poo.whats wrong with that?MY dogs do that!

Yes, I totaly agree with you.

(Some of) those people treat their dog like it's a doll. They even sprayed hairspray on the dog. Those dogs really don't enjoy it to lay there under a huge hair dryer.
