Public Enemy have also endorsed Nation of Islam Supreme Minister Louis Farrakhan, who has been controversial for his commentary which is often interpreted as being black nationalist, homophobic, and anti-Semitic.(from WIKIpedia)
In 89 PE opened for U-2 at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. They came out dressed like Klans men wearing white robes. Powerful stuff for a white boy, who grew up on rock, to stomach but I did indeed like it.
Chuck D get his props, and he deserves them, dense and downright incredible ryhmes on display here... But the long lost art of a DJ bringing the shit deserves some attention. Terminator X just throws layers upon layers of samples on top of a dope beat on top of sparse but always solid turntable work. What ever happened to kick-ass DJ's in rap?
@shock1974 :it's the bomb squad that did that "sheet of sound" that PE is know for, this was when it was easy and cheap to sample, before the court cases
@markallenkellner That beat is sick and the Prince guitar is awesome. The Bomb squad changed rap. After P.E. everybody wanted a wider lifelike soundtrack to rap to...God Bless Public Enemy!!
Can you imagine if this was played on a daily basis?............
