Dificil explicar lo que hace sentir, es como si uno no supiera la escencia de lo que esta hecho, dificil definir el sentimiento que lo forma y a las personas que esta unida.
Los desasosiegos que se sienten al escuchar algo asi son fuertes.
Takes me back to my college radio DJ days (CJSW 90.9 FM), when this got a lot of airplay.
Along with My Bloody Valentine's 'Soon', it was one of those anthems for the post Cold War/beginning of the Kondratiev Fall era. (Innocent of jihadis and other scary monsters.)
I agree, such a beautiful song, it would make a great summer tune! The song only reached # 72 which was unjust - still, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
At the time the song & video were enrapturing, if a bit shockingly accessible for Pale Saints. Now it comes across as somewhat mediocre but I think that's largely because the general drift of indie and even popular music in general tended to follow suit. At the time it was quite unique, and still, I think, quite beautiful, whatever else one could say about it.
This song is some kind of Meriel Braham era. It's quite mediocre when comparing it to other band's songs like Throwing Back the Apple or Sight of You. When Ian Masters left and she became sole vocalist the band became a joke.
Pale Saints were great. But third album, Masters-less shouldn't have happened
The song is a Nancy Sinatra cover from the "Flesh Balloon" EP, and it was released before "In Ribbon". I think the band was going downhill around that time, so I don't think Meriel Barnham was the sole vane of the band. The songs after the "Half Life Remembered" ep weren't as good and they got producer Hugh Jones who just seemed to have suck the soul of their recordings. Ian was fed up with touring and just plain smart enough to leave the band after "In Ribbons".
Hey, thanks for pointing that out about it being a Nancy Sinatra cover. I'm not a big fan of this band, but the EP was really good. "Hunted" is awesome.
Why, of course he is, crouched on the bed, cuddling a couple of mice or something. That video's from June 1991, Ian was still in the band and, supposedly, he was still the leader of the band.
I think he wasn't into it anymore. A huge Eyeless in Gaza fan, Masters was in love with the experimental side of music and didn't actually care much for the "shoegazer" tag.
4AD expected a lot from Pale saints and put a lot of money on the band. Commercially, Pale Saints weren't doing great. I believe Ian felt Pale Saints weren't going to get any bigger and he was being cornered into the write-record-release-promote routine.
Ian Masters now lives in Japan. He was involved in a lot of projects after leaving Pale Saints. Let me just tell you about one truly wonderful album called "Mars is a Ten" recorded with Warren Defever (His Name is Alive) and released under the name ESP Continent in 1995. (ESP Summer in the US)
i'm gonna dance this song at my wedding dance , oh yeah :)
