@ox092 who the fuck told you that? you actually think athletes of this calibour are going to be chain smokers? almost impossible to be in that shape and be a chain smoker
True that America has produced a battalion of champions but today's game is radically different from even a decade ago when Serve and Volleying was still the accepted norm. Nowadays it's all baseline to baseline and with the slower courts, I think Spain will have the advantage. US on the other hand not so much at this point.
the US, Spain, France, and Sweden are countries known for producing the best tennis players. Yet the field of tennis players today is dominated by a Swiss.
guess you cant really educate a genius, these things are born, not made
I agree that Spain is the top country in the world for tennis, but there is one thing you overlooked: all the players that represent other countries that grew up playing in Spain. Andy Murray grew up playing in Spain even though he now represents Great Britain. Marat Safin also trained in Spain throughout his childhood. They obviously have excellent junior development programs and they have produced some of the best players in the world.
damn, i used to like ferrer when he hit flat like this with pure power, now he's putting more spin on the ball, doesnt he realize that this way of playing is what got him far up into the rankings, spin=bad flat=good lolz
Really shows your knowledge on the history of tennis Whiskmos. Saying Spain is the best in tennis is ridiculous. You can maybe argue about Spain producing best clay court players, but even in regards to that, Sweden has Borg and Wilander and both of them alone have more French Open titles than many of the Spaniards put together, not to mention they were all-round players. Spain is definately not one of the top tennis countries overall in the world, definately not statistically wise.
Today. They are. They have wayyyy more depth than any other country. Verdasco Nadal Ferrer Ferrero to name a very few. Probably have more people in the top 100 than anyone else by far. By your way of measuring statistics I would put the swiss at the top by the fact of having Mr. Fed. (Who didnt grow up playing there)
at present day they are, probably more tennis players in the top ten than any other country. the days of swede domination is long over (since edberg retired) americans are still great, but great achievements lately have been few and far between, and most by roddick. by numbers, france is pretty good too, though the top 4 are somewhat inconsistent. overall, at least in the present day, spain is having the most success.
Spain is one of the top countries in the world for tennis. Your facts are correct, but that doesn't conclude or disprove that Spain isn't one of the best.
I'm talking about this era, and what team just made it into the Davis cup final without their best two players? Which means that Spain has the best tennis team in the world no? Spain is the best tennis nation at the moment and Britain is probably the shittest.
I'm talking about this era and their team of players. Spain have just cruized through to the Davis cup final AGAIN! and without their best two players. Hence - best tennis nation in the world.
I looove these two, it's amazing that they are friends and two great competitors as well :) Although I know Rafa wanted to win this match. I hope David gets back to this kind of form in 2009. He is so nice, he deserves it. Vamos!
It doesn't matter! Nadal has so many weapons! He wouldn't be where he's and wouldn't have got a record such as his at 22 if he wasn't doing it better than the others! lol
Hope not so because I saw them were still cheer with each other at Barcelona this year and by the way , both Rafa and David have a really nice sportmanship :D
i like how ferrer was down but he kept trying. a lot of idiots on the tour just stop trying. honestly i dont even know how guys like that even make it on the pro tour
ferrer´s shots are flatter than nadal´s which works better on hard, when nadal is put on the defensive with flat shots on hard, life does become harder for him..because he has to run a lot faster to get to the ball.
nadal can do very well on any surface, anyone who saw indian wells 2007, could see nadal´s devastating form, if he brought that form to the usopen, there is no telling what could happen, although I do think he would have to play his ass off to beat roger..
Yeah but you are taking that out of context.. Obviously he CAN play well on any surface, but what seperates players in the top 200 is how much of the time you are on in a match. Federer does so well because he plays at that same high level almost all the time. Nadal cannot play his best hardcourt form very much, that is why he has only won a few hardcourt titles.
you have a point there, federer is much more consistent on hard, but nadal is still young,he will have a good run at the us open someday when it come´s together for him..
this was indeed a very important match! if rafa had won this,he would be the group leader and would not play against federer in the semis and perhaps he would be in the final!
nadal have lost against federer, ferrer, blake, berdich, gonzalez,nalbandian(61 62, 64 60), youhzny, moya, djokovic...enough?? =) nadal is out of top 15 on hardcourts!!
Nadal is improving in hardcourts. He won Indian Wells last year and is doing well at the AO. But I do agree Ferrer is better. If Rafa had Ferrer's serve, he'd be N.1
Rafa could jump to #1 this year. He could win the AO, will surely win RR and could win Wimbledon. Roger will surely win the US open, and they will split masters cups near evenly, with the advantage to Roger. Time will tell.
the prblem is that rafa's tennis belongs to his body,to his healt, and for player like rafa, every years could be the last..he can play this way for many years..roger don't have this problem. on hard court rafa is out of top 15,he will never win wimbledon.. djokovic win in straight set against rafa on grass and hard court
i cannot understand when someone claims djokovic will beat nadal in grass? 2 wimbledon finals in a row is not enough to accept that nadal is a good grass court player? what did djokovic do on grass? oh yes,i remember one semi-final last year.this is like saying federer is a bad claycourt player.nadal is good on grass but because of federer,he looks relatively worse.
nadal is good on grass, but djokovic is better than him..in last year's semis Novak woa winnings 1 set to 0,and a brak in the second..Nadal is a good grass player, but i think this year he don't reach final..
fernandogonzo you're talking weird! nadal might loose against several players on hard court, but most of this players do this for one time and loose later matches against him!! of course it's hard for nadal to win masters series or even grand slam tournament on hardcourt and i don't think he will ever win a slam on hard, but he ist still one of the best on the tour and not just because he is teh best claycourt player in the world!!! i am a big roger fan, but i except all things nadal has done!!!
I am a big Nadal and Federer fan but Nadal's run to semifinals was a joke... Highest seeded player was like a 23, and the best player he played was Jarkko Nieman which is practically a joke for a top player. Tsonga was his first tough opponent, and you saw how easily he folded out to him. This year will be interesting since Federer didn't win AO. And seeing how Federer has lost to Nadal the past three years at the French, I would think he is going to try something new to win..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you forgot to mention that djokovic got hurt in the match agains´t nadal at wimbledon and had to retire, so there really was not much of a match, djokovic made the semis at the french, wimbledon and final at the usopen..so watch the facts! novak is well capable of winning nadal on grass, maybe we will see it this year, who the hell knows what can happen?? there are no predictons in life or tennis..
djokovic, djokovic,i'm already sick and tired of djokovic!
you are right that there are no predictions in tennis, anything can happen as we're all seeing in this year so much!i hope nadal will beat djokovic in grass and win wimbledon and all the djokovic-raters will shut up!
Djokovic is a great player but arrogant as hell! When roger lost to murray in Dubai, the fucker was asked "Are you surprised at rogers loss", no i expected it. Expected what, from a player whos worst win/loss record was 2007, something like 81-8, i hope Nadal kicks his ass right out the stadium. Arrogance i cannot tolerate! His good but until he reaches the pinnacles of nadal and fed he should shut up, fucking nobhead.
Then who beat Djokovic in Queens and got the title then? Or been to the final at wimbledon, twice? Nadal has had many opportunities to claim the nr.1 spot this year, but both Nadal and Federer has had an awfull start this year, but they are recovering. And for that matter Nadal is leading the 2008 statestic by quite some point over Djokovic and Federer is right behind him. Nadal will become nr.1 in time. Nadals play is not depended on his body, but on his will and never give up attitude.
For him, it was. Tough match, first Masters Cup, he beats the world number 2...I also think he could have avoided falling on the ground, but I can understand it.
Ferrer tiene "speed" velocidad - piernas que las quisieran los mejores. Ferrer seguira ascendiendo que es lo que merece. Pero eso si, deve de segir trabajando para mantener esa forma. Rafa es otra cosa! El es un campeon nato!
What you have to be jocking Federer, Murray faster runners!!? Never!! In fact, Federer is not suited to long matches or a very physically demanding game. As for Murray!!...
Lmfao, don't mind "YoSoyZuri" all that person does is talk 150% about Nadal. Ferrer is a lot more suited than Nadal will ever be on hardcourts because Nadal stupidly keeps trying to employ high looping topspin forehands when hardcourts are dominated by flat shots which Ferrer has.
Ferrer doesn't possess "flat" shots...being a clay courter he plays with a lot of topspin especially considering he's shorter than most of the top players he wouldn't be able to play flat shots often
and what do you suggest for Nadal to do about his "high looping topspin" its kinda hard to change a whole stroke..besides his forehand is one of the best in the world
out of all the top 10 players right now i think ferrer is with the likes of federer and nadal in professionalism and pure sport class.

ferrer is great!! he is one of the fastest runners in tennis! even faster than nadal. i think only murray and federer are faster than him!
at the moment he finishes roddick:D

What you have to be jocking Federer, Murray faster runners!!? Never!! In fact, Federer is not suited to long matches or a very physically demanding game. As for Murray!!...
YoSoyZuri 4 years ago
Lmfao, don't mind "YoSoyZuri" all that person does is talk 150% about Nadal. Ferrer is a lot more suited than Nadal will ever be on hardcourts because Nadal stupidly keeps trying to employ high looping topspin forehands when hardcourts are dominated by flat shots which Ferrer has.
JewArabNews 4 years ago
Ferrer doesn't possess "flat" shots...being a clay courter he plays with a lot of topspin especially considering he's shorter than most of the top players he wouldn't be able to play flat shots often
and what do you suggest for Nadal to do about his "high looping topspin" its kinda hard to change a whole stroke..besides his forehand is one of the best in the world

Shanghai is burning!

title of the match: "inside-out shot"
it was working extremely well for Ferrer and he kept using it to get winners and thus he won, the best match till now in the tournament :)
