"As we watch you die..." Too bad that they squandered their inheritance & left nothing to their children but the Plastic Fantastic covering of chic rock glamour.Check out "Jefferson Starships" 3rd album to see how blatantly they sold out to early 1979- 80's air blown haircuts & the music was dried out along with a cheap message that could only last 10 years for university educated upper class ,spoiled brats who you see today bald headed in front with a few whispy hairs tied in back pony tailed.
i like this version its more mellow at the beginning to me but the acoustics of Crosby and nash is just more soothing and relaxing to listen to to me.
Stills had chords, Kanter gave him lyrics up to the point of "Horror grips us as we watch you die..." then I can't remember if stills finished the lyrics or if it was one of the other members of CSN
This song is MUCH better than CSNY. It has feeling, not cheesy antics. I'm 24 and used to get baked and listen to this everyday. SOOO beautiful like GRACE. All of Jefferson's gives me a nice strange vibe. So Great.
Both the Airplane and CSNY performed this at Woodstock. Interestingly, the CSNY version was close to the album version while the Airplane's version was over 20 minutes long.
I love both versions, but few days ago I was driving in Mexico city traffic so angry and came in my cd the Jefferson Airplane Version in a Best of... Cd and made me so calm and happy. Love this song
This song belongs equally to both groups. Kantner co-wrote the song with Stills and Crosby, and both groups recorded the song in '68. I don't think we can post links here, but you can look up the history of the song by entering "Wooden Ships" on Wikipedia. I love both versions. Late '60's through early 70's --what a creative time in rock.
I agree

why must people say one version is "better" than the other? they're both great. just sit back and relax and enjoy them.

Beautiful, brings back old memories. Your labels says CSNY cover, but didn't Paul Kantner wrote this song together with Crosby and Stills?
