I Love Terrence I really do he is an amazing man he is such an inspiration, he is trully an amazing man and I respect it., he trully is 100% right, you know alote of people and even in disney films they wish aupon a star and then dreams come true, but the thing is, in reality you can wish all you want to, but it is up to you to make thoses and your dreams come true, and it takes hard work dedication and people that believe in you, because nothing in this world is free, you have to work for it.
why is everyone turning this movie into a race issue... put aside the color of skin for once in your life... you don't hear your kids saying "that was a good movie, but if the princess were white it'd be better"... they don't care, why should you?
Such a great message, Terrence. We need more children saying that their inspiration was their dad. Great things he said about Disney, as well. Disney has always been at the forefront. I now live in the Orlando area and we have premium annual passes, so we go to the parks A LOT, and we love it every time!
i think people focus way to much on black and white, why does your skin color even matter, like pac said "both black and white, are smokin crack tonight" i think peoples personalities are based on where theyre from and who and what influenced them in while they were growing up, not all black people are the same, and not all white people are the same, it annoys the hell outta me when a black person is like oh you its a black thing,or when a white person does the same thing, its dumb, were all humans
The black and white issue may never really be completely removed from society. Black as being bad and White as being good has always been pushed for generations. Bad guy wears black, good guy white, prince always rides in on a white horse, evil always hide in the dark, the list is a mile long. We need to change this ideology if we really want to change peoples perspective.
It's a beautiful movie with a wonderful cast. Terrence Howard was great though he played a small (yet very important) role in the film. I love his intelligence and eloquence in this interview
That was a good interview. I like when he mentioned that when he saw himself as an actor, it was as one of the creatures in that cartoon. I am totally quoting him. He's really hansom, too. I thought the person who did the dad's voice was older.
This film has had a big influence on me. I want to work at Disney creating movies like this more than anything in the world, and just yesterday, I bought a collection of classic shorts that came with a collectible litho animation cell. This morning, when I picked it up and looked at it, my dream seemed so far away. Almost without thinking, I held it to my heart and whispered "Please, please, PLEASE."
@queenesther09 I did the exact same thing you did "Please please please", praying while clutching The Alchemy of Animation book I recently bought from Disneyland. Sigh. With hard work and faith, within ourselves and within others, I hope our dreams will come true.
Terrence Howard. Wow. Just. Wow. I'd never heard him being interviewed before but, man, such a well spoken, intellegent man. Everything he said was incredibly inspirational. <3
making a doll or a princess for every race is not a big deal.
what we are focusing on is the return
of those beautiful disney 2d musicals.
when i saw this movie i loved it!
and every one should love it but not because of the race but for a new disney movie that will be loved and shared to generation to generation and so on and so forth.
The reason why race is a big deal and why Tiana being the first Black disney princess is because, disney actually UNDER REPRESENTS african americans. Walt Disney was actually quite racist. But times have changed THANK GOD and it was time for little girls to see that being white with blonde hair and blue eyes isnt the only type of princess. Black little girls needed to see that they are seen by the world as beautiful and they are princesses too. It is something that is hard to explain unless ..
Yeah i know, took them forever but I'm glad they finally made a movie like this,it was great to watch! like I'm an adult and i enjoyed it.Some people just make everything an issue, just sad..
you know what it's like to be under represented and to have a black doll be thought of as the "bad one". But like Terence said little white girls in Russia will be able to identify with her and see that she's black. That skin doesnt matter. Frankly to be perfectly honest I'm glad they made tiana the first black princess because she's the best princess. Hardworkng Go getter I dont need a prince to make my dreams come true. Just like a real black woman is.
Exactly! Little girls who aren't Chinese still like Mulan, kids who aren't Middle Eastern like Aladdin and Jasmine, and it's not just Native American children who like Pocahontas.
For all the yammering people give about Disney corrupting the youth and whatnot, they're actually surprisingly good at unifying when you consider...
And I love Tiana just because she's such a fun character who is a well deserving Disney Princess. Here's to her! ^^
This movie was beautiful, amazing, and FANTASTIC! Princess Tiana is so strong, bright, and charismatic, and Prince Naveen grows so much from the start til the finish! I must say that these are my favorite prince & princess EVER in a Disney film!
Race aside, it's a GREAT film. Just as it should be. And EVERYONE should check it out! I think anyone would be proud of this movie! It's totally for everyone! She's not just a "Black" Princess, she's a great role model for young girls EVERYWHERE!
Princess Tiana is an inspiration to everyone, she's a universal character and one of the best female characters that Disney has ever created and the FIRST whose dream was not to marry a prince but to make something out of herself.
To me, that's more important than the colour of her skin! xxx <3
Terrence Howard is awesome in that he involved himself emotionally into the role of Tiana's daddy, the guy that pretty much Tiana idealizes when she is little.
You dummies...we all came from the otherside. America is a so-called new country you idiots. And black people were scattered all through Africa, Asia and Europe (utter most mid eastern parts). Do your history young mufus. These are black characters reprsented in this movie. Racist ass whites don't give us credit for shit. But we don't need it. God hates you lepros dogs. Job 30:30, Lamentations 4:8, Songs of Solomon 1:5-6
God doesn't hate us. In fact, this is God you're talking about. Our loving lord. sure he gets mad but he could never hate, hate isn't in his description. If God hated us, then he wouldn't send Jesus down to die for our sins so that we may be forgiven.
He merely is dissapointed and sad whenever someone doesn't follow his rules, like a father.
Now, ask yourself this, would a father hate his own children?
Disneylandfreack - it is far from fact. But, some people just can't seem to see past their own experiences and prejudices. You need to grow up, remember Pocahantas? Do you see Native Americans ignorant like you? No
Remember Native Americans were screwed over just as bad as Black People were. Yes they're still upset about what happened but do they take their anger out on a KIDS MOVIE?! No
Speak out about something that's worth speaking out like the Oscar Grant case not a kids movie
i realize that response like this to a kids movie may seem silly but it is quite relevant. Many adds from Disney, Burger King, Coca Cola...and many more products target children. This is b/c children are forming their likes and dislikes at a young age.f they learn to like the product- they will be loyal to it for life, maybe. Same with concepts and ideas in these cartoons.they may seem trivial but they will last past their childhoods. That is why it is important. It's important to me and Im 20!
Technically no one ever says the Prince's ethnicity, but it's implied that his parents were royalty from two different nations (thus making him mixed). Naveen is an Indian name and his accent is some very bizarre blend.
Long story short, you're right, there's more important things in the movie than the ethnicity of the prince. Like how adorable he and Tiana are together. Aww! XD
Tiana? Nothing. I was talking about Naveen, based on Facilier's comment that he is the descendant of "two long lines of royalty" (royal families tended to organize marriages between each other for diplomatic reasons).
I feel so thankful to Terrence Howard's words. He really does encourage and inspire me. "You are born as a winner." I'll definitely keep this faith forever.
