  • My favorite quartet of them all.

  • do you have another album from the Acoustix?? I really need it for christmas for my mother... she loves their songs but their music is not available here in Austria. Can you upload other songs form different albums?

  • My Dad sang with a couple of these guys at harmony college.

  • In this song, does the bari typically always sing those final high notes in full voice rather than head voice ? Clearly the members of Acoustix do, but how about others?

  • @r00frack most people do, BECAUSE of how the Acoustix perform it hahaha

  • @r00frack baritones generally should be what most call full tenors in that thwey can safely and in quality reach notes like G and A. Tonight Tonight is another high bari hanger. The highest note I've ever sung in full voice as a baritone is a high B on an arrangement of This Joint is jumpin' but it only lasted 2 seconds before falling off the chord to end the song. In short, high bari hangers are pretty common. Choose your baritones wisely, or just get Tony derosa to be safe. XD

  • the last chord is perfect...absolutely perfect... i actually hear the overtones louder than the actually pitches

  • Yeah, that note at :50 has to be at least an Eb. I've been used for that note before.

  • I grew up listening to this cd...and i want a copy of it sooo badly!!! tell me i can download it from somewhere!! i really need it!!!

  • Does anyone know who arranged this? Thanks.

  • @chaozman123 Gary Parks, maybe?

  • @jbobcat09 Or it could have been Jeff Oxley himself, I know he did a lot of arranging for the group.

  • @chaozman123 The sheet music I have for this says that it was the Illustrious Fred King who arranged this.

  • @bshopshine Where did you get the sheet music?

  • A masterpiece....Full stop.

  • This is absolutely beautiful!!!

  • I really want to hear Jason do that solo at 1:51 that Jeff does

He has such a calm smooth solo voice that no ones seems to know about =l

  • Best tag ever!

  • Actually a "Tag" is the last couple of lines or seconds of a song, not the entire song.

BUT! I love this song I sang this in BYU-I's University Choir.

Although it was a SATB arrangement not TTBB.

  • I've been singing barbershop for 24 years. I know what a tag is. My point, which you apparently missed, is that this song's tag is my favorite.

  • @zookcruiser Ok My bad, You just worded it in a different way, But yes I totally agree it's an amazing Tag.

  • 3:21 DANG that's amazing..

  • I remember Jeff and Jason very well. Actually got the chance to stand in the middle of circle while they and two others did some kick ass tags...ummm but this was 20 years ago. no doubt they are all still singing.

    ;)

  • actually the bass(can't think of his name) stands right behind me a Vocal Majority Class, this song though is really amazing

  • THAT'S MY CHOIR TEACHER!

  • Just happened to come across this while surfing YouTube/Barbershop. Took me back over 50 years when, as a Navy Ensign, I received my Navy wings.

  • this is the theme song of the bsmt commencement in our school

  • Their bass is solid! I love those low notes. Im glad I can hit them too

  • Amen to that! Lol, I got a award for being the lowest bass in my county, so I can whole heartedly agree, and appreciate this talent.

  • wow...need i say more? very talented group..

  • Hey I've been looking everywhere for the four part sheet music to this song. And i can't find it. Any suggestions?

  • You can order it from the BHS catalog with minimal charge (about $5) - but I was told you could download it somewhere on the website as well. Hope this helps

    G

  • Jason january is the BALLZ

  • Is he the bass?

  • The bass is Jeff Oxley;

    Jason is the baritone

  • @MJkate and more.

  • @MJkate only he can sing a high A in full voice

  • they excellent balance and tone

  • Has anyone got a copy of the four part sheet music for this? Can't afford the high price of the score wanted by the arrangers ($80).

  • What high price wanted by the arrangers??? The BHS catalogue has absolutely no mention of an $80 arrangers fee, it actualyl says there's NO arrangers fee... Check it if you want, arranged by Fred King.

  • I listened to this group perform in Asheville years ago. It has made me a fan of barbershop ever since.

  • I just want to thank everyone for the great comments. My father is Rick Middaugh the lead. This is my favorite song they have recorded. I remember growing up as a little kid and standing in the middle of all the guys as the rehearsed. Sure does bring back memories.

  • cool!!!!!!!!

  • this song is the reason why i got into barbershop...almost forgot how powerful it can tuly be.

  • Holy . . . SHIT!

  • Sounds so beautiful it makes you want to cry

  • does anyone know what the jeff's note at 0:50 is ?

  • Its an E Major Chord so Jeff is singing the low E. For a bass that really isn't to low.

  • @Bighead6365 The key was brought down on the cd from their original. The note is either Eb or D because, well, do you think ANYONE can control how his falsetto falls as you age? Those notes are insane between Gs and As just held in regular voice like it was nothing. WOW!

  • @Bighead6365 Well, for a true basso that's true. But most of us barbershop basses are low baris who have an Eb that isn't too dark or absolutely silent. Jeff has got a wild chest voice range. If you're not ready for it "every THING" will come out as a squeak.

  • @Bighead6365 it's actually an Eb

  • @Bighead6365 thats a low Eb because its in the key of Eb which is actually is low the lowest note in barbershop is a pedal Db

  • @Cobyonekanoby No, I've seen low B in a society version of "Summer's Midnight" I'll c if I can hunt down the link.

  • Comment removed

  • D# is the tune

  • No actually.. Eb..

    Haha..

  • oooh please..

  • yes bass on Eb /bari on Bb /lead on G and tenor on Eb

  • @Bleep98 btw it's actually an e flat......still for a bass, it isn't that low......as a tenor, i can still sing below it (i have relatively low range to be considered to be a tenor but...)

  • @sunnypark02 congrats to your range, but most people of the western world are not true basses, hence why WAY back in the day almost all really good quartets had a black bass. Blacks provide more basses than any other race. Low E is the end of 2nd baritone range which is what most bbs basses are today. That said, Oxley was/is a god.

  • @Icyveins906 umm first, thank you for ur complimemt, I do appreciate it. And getting back to business, r u sure about low E being the average bass limit? Because almost every male, it not, vast majority, in my high school choir can sing low E. For the tenors, low e may not be their comfortable range to sing out loud but they do not have problem in resonating it. And Im not sure about the African Americans...i mean, they are just talented in music in general

  • @sunnypark02 That's no joke. Although, what state do you live in? Iowa, Virginia, the Carolinas, California, and some of the mid-southwest states are known to have extremely talented bass sections in their all-state choirs. If you have a full group of E-basses in your choir, I'm jealous. The fact about African-American basses is also true. You can check the BHS and other music history texts. As a white/mixed-race tenor 1, I can on a good day REACH low E but it has no volume whatsoever.

  • @Icyveins906 Upper Arlington High School in Ohio. Come and Join us... yeah, i highly doubt low E is problem for almost every basses...when it gets to something like low D or D flat, then that is another matter but low E isn't bad...to be honest, im surprized by the fact that not all of the BASSES don't have low E...btw, i mean, singing a low E, even w/o volume as a tenor 1 is really good.

  • @Bleep98 It may be a "written" E, but the sounding note/chord there is closer to Eb.

  • @mrpankau

    @Bighead6365

you're both wrong. it's both written AND sang as an Eb, because the intro is in Eb.

  • Hooooooooooowwwwww does this not have 50 million views???? Oh yeah!...people like terrible music.

  • @mrpankau you nailed it.

  • Love it. The last chord where the tenor goes up in the rafters and sings that note and then it resolves to the last chord.... just brilliant!

  • Thats not the tenor... that's actually the baritone!!!

  • @Bighead6365 Hahaha!!! Never underestimate a BARITONE. I'm a tenor, but life wouldn't be worth living without those bari notes!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Bighead6365 We baris are always doing something wild... whee!

  • @Bighead6365 Then what note is the tenor singing there?

  • @Bighead6365 Whats the tenors note then?

  • @Bighead6365 who is actually a nice tenor

  • @PhillyBentin Yep, usually it is the baritone that posts those high thirds.

  • @PhillyBentin ROOKIE MISTAKE.

  • This is Music.

The most wonderful music i have ever heard.

  • wouldn't you upload it a bit quite much more louder,, you know, on cheap speakers I almost can't hear anything, but the radio interference xD

  • Thanks for uploading this. My quartet is singing this song, and its' great to listen to for reference, lol in our attempt to imitate the best.

  • hallo, do you have the same arrangement?

I like this song very much!

    How can i get it?

    maybe from you?

  • Just buy it through the barbershop website in there music catalog. It's not expensive to buy.

  • thanks, but i want to get the musicnotes of this arrangement and not the CD.

  • That is what I'm saying. If you look in the music library that they have (it's a pdf file), get the number, and order it you should be able to get it.

  • this is STILL painfull to listen too......

    goosebumps

  • thanks for posting this :)

  • I just tried singing the lead part along with this. And damn! Although I did alright, that last F had me gasping for air. Haha. What support.

  • The other amazing thing about Jason in this song is that he is sings the bass part through Oxley's solo only to nail the high A in the tag... Wow!

  • speechless

  • I *hate* Acoustix (no accounting for taste, is there, folks?) -- but I have to confess this recording gives me goosebumps. God!!

  • Jason January's insane A4 at the end is fantastic! That guy can sure hit a note.

  • WOW!!!that was awesome!!!i tried singing the suprano part and it was really hard. totally brilliant!!

  • suprano?

  • Lol. Maybe he means the "tender." Or the "base." I can't pick which way I'd like to misspell baritone.

  • haha, or my favorite "tenor 2".

  • beartone

  • barrytone? toner? bace? leed?

or as they say here in Japan "reed". As in Tony DeRosa sings "reed" in MaxQ

  • its painfull to listen too......

    goosebumps

  • i LOVE that ending!!! woo! Did I mention, I really like the ending?

  • BIG FINISH!!!! "meeee likey"!!! that was cool. my bro sent me this link.

  • Congrats Nightbreed!!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. I grew up with this album and this song is my favorite.

  • I had a double quartet that did this song we went all the way to state and our judge said it was the best song he had ever heard at state in his 15 years judgeing. When you lock that last chord the overtones are so amazing! This is by far the most rewarding song I have sung so far and My quarted hopes to do a song called just in time by platinum next year

  • I think it great you were able to use this in a contest because in barbershop I'm almost 100% sure this isn't contestable with the bass melody and unison in a lot of parts. I do agree that this song produces amazing ring and overtones and I'm glad you did so well with it.

  • Well if I am correct my Choir teacher did have to right in a different bass part. I say this becasuse he said every part but the basses could practice with the recording but yeah it was so much fun I am sad that barbershop isnt nearly as popular as it once was but I guess a lot of kids have lost flavor for the more refined perfoming arts

  • holyshit the goosebumps I just got are painfull!!

  • ABC World News Tonight correspondent Peter Jennings (R.I.P.) had Acoustix sing this song (among others) to him on Wednesday, November 3, 1999, when he was awarded the Living Landmarks award. He then asked them to help him ring in the New Year / Decade / Century / Millennium on national TV.

  • Anyone know who arranged this? And where I can get the sheet music?

  • Jeff Oxley actually arranged this himself. Its right in the barbershop music catalog for 2.65 per copy at member price.

  • Actually, the arrangement in the BHS music catalog by Oxley is for female voicing and it's not exactly the same as this arrangement. There is a Fred King arrangement there too but I haven't seen that so I'm not sure how similar it is?

  • Both the Oxley version and the Fred King version is exactly the same. The only thing thats different is the solo is switched around, other than that, no differences at all. and as Bighead6365 said, only $2.65 for those that want it. Hope that clears some things up. I really had no chance of ever pulling this off as well as these guys =( maybe one dayin a far distant future =)

  • A baritone sang that last major third????? holy crap!

  • Jason January is the bari hitting that insane 3rd in the last chord, that man is amazing, and not as well known in the barbershop world as he should be. Both basses that sang with this quartet, and of course Rick Middaugh the lead, are very much known, but if you ask me, Jason January makes a lot of things possible in that quartet.

  • I agree with you. Being a baritone myself some of the stuff he does is just amazing.

  • Yeah. Even though I'm a tenor, I think Bari's are often over looked but listening closely to Jason, he is just brilliant and the Bari is often quite a difficult harmony part to sing.

  • this is soooo illegal... but i shouldn't be complaining =)

  • I know it is but how does it hurt them? If anything people will go out and buy the CD ya know what I mean.

  • nah, believe it or not, most people will just listen to this song right here and don't mind buying the cd...

  • Personaly, if I hear somethin really good on YT I wont hesitate too long to buy the cd...

It's really different to have the disk... And I think it's really a good think to diffuse such good music on the web to make some new artist more and more known... but I know everybody doesn't agree with that...

  • The Society is stupid, plain and simple, in forcing YouTube to take down their copyrighted content. When was the last time a barbershop song appeared on the Billboard charts?

    The prosecution rests, your honor.

  • Yeah! This is my all time favorite recording of an a cappella song. Long live the kings! :) I'd just love to hear a live performance of this song.

  • I love the Acoustix, I hope Glory Days can win Interantional this Year!!

  • Whoo hoo! The first to comment! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! Damn I love that tag! That bari has gotta have a high range to hit that 3rd! I guess thats why they're professional!
