About a week and a half ago I stopped taking my Wellbutrin. For the past week I have been planning how I will be killing myself next week. Although u would think that I would have put 2 and 2 together and figured out it was the withdrawal that was making me suicidal, but it wasn't until today that I finally figured it out..

i just got my pills an hour ago after losing my persciption for 3 days...on the third day i started having pulsations in my head that made my dizzy and this is comman for anyone i think but it was every few minutes. later last night it started in my cheat what felt like my heart...when i woke up this morning it felt like there was a stake in my heart now that paid and the pulsations wont piss off lol..pretty painful but more worrying if anything..

I take citalopram (anti -depressant) and they work wonders for me. They help me a lot! It's normal to get side effects by taking and going off anti - depressants but they do go away. It's not total crap. It worked for me.
My mom was 100% in good health. Physically and mentally. She went to a fruit loop phychitrist and she prescibed her Geodon. Its a mistake that has about killed my mom. She now weighs 115 lbs and cant even drive. She is now has to be with a family member 24/7 because it has (destroyed her mind!)

Okay I've finally seen the light, I'm done with antidepressants. They cause more negative side effects and don't work beyond the placebo effect. Now I just realized that I could permanently have sexual dysfunction for the rest of my life. They only time I have a sex drive is when I smoke pot, something I should have treated my mental disorder with years ago. Fuck the Psychiatric field, it's full of corruption, deceit, and lies. I plan to sue once PSSD goes public, I hope they go bankrupt.
thankfully I had a group of people who are Christians, pray for me as i was coming off topomax. It was quite a TRIP! My thinking ability never was at the right capacity again after taking it for 9 months!

i used to take prozac,and then paxil years later.They made me more "normal",but they contained fluoride,which is toxic and suppresses thyroid function.So i quit.Now i`m back to being a reclusive neurotic nut.I dont know what to do.

I started on Wellbutrin, next to Celexa, then it was Effexor, Then from there is was Cymbalta. When I first started on anti-depressants they felt like just what I needed. I felt good, I laughed a lot, I always was in a positive optimistic mood. Believe it or not it all started with just one pill Wellbutrin which was administered just after my coming clean off of street drugs and alcohol addiction. Currently I am on: hydroxiyzine, trazodone, clontidine, and Cymbalta. I feel like killing myself. ☹
Side effects are worse than the original symptoms. If you are on these meds, it is dangerous to stop them quickly. Most are told that once you are on these it will be for a lifetime.

I am taking them for ages and nothing... bit better? I am on antibulimic dose of Prozac e.g. 60mg every mornig for 2 yeras now and I have gained 20kgs and developed diabetes and high blood presure. I am now overeating and in last weeks I lost interest in my kids ... my kids, my only brightness ... I do not play with them, I do not spend time with them... I lost job... I am pathetic.
Take simular medications( Xanax ,norpramin,trazodone) 25 yearss due to severe panic attacks,and agoraphobia.I had constant panic in my apt,when i had to turn to meds.Only people with severe cases should be put on meds.Psych nurse 2 times stopped my meds abruptly for a week, was in too much pain to walk.Should be laws that doctors cant abruptly takes meds like these off.because they are dangerous to stop.Had to skip dosages, take expired meds,was torture,very cruel.
Every single one of these psychiatric medications with the exception of maybe Wellbutrin leads to significant weight gain. Meaning that when patients are detained in these hospitals their health and safety are being strongly taxed, because since the medications lead to weight gain and the patient is not allowed to leave the unit he/she can not burn off any calories. That plus the crappy food he/she is given further leads to problems.
it has taken me 4 years to withdraw from seroxat ( paxill ) an SSRI 1mg every 6 to 8 weeks it is very dangerous to just stop it could be the death of you, from no where i got a super strong compulsion to commit suicide lots of times and it was only because i knew what it was, the withdrawl, as soon as i took some more seroxat within 40 mins or so the negative thoughts were gone, hard to believe when we are told to expect the meds to take 4 weeks or so before they work, it was hell on earth,
You MUST be hospitalized and heavily sedated. It is VERY dangerous to attempt to discontinue SSRI's on one's own. Withdrawals cause convulsions and seizures and blackouts - all very dangerous. This is in addition to the pain. It's criminal that potential users are not clearly informed that they can't stop.

The problem here is these drugs are being handed out like candy to people who simply don't need them. These drugs are intended for people who are so severely depressed that even the horrible side-effects are considered acceptable because of the severity of their condition.

July 2001 to July 2002 I took paxil (paroxetine); after 3months severe tension headaches started which I found out later calling distress lines pharmacy help lines the drug was toxic to me; it left me with malignant neoplasms brain per Baycrest Hospital Toronto; Hypothyroidism per Toronto Western.
Aunt Marion, Sister Debbie a buddy John Doran same head ache took further mood stablizers &/or antypical antipsychotics they are dead GSK or Ontario or Canada did nothing to help.
I suffered from terrible anxiety and depression which reduced me to just existing and lying in bed. I was glad of the medication which kicked in after 3 weeks. The downside was the loss of libido, bad dreams and more frequent migraines as I'm a migraineur,
On weaning off the drug I suffered zaps, and a withdrawal depression which necessitated going back on the drug and then weaning off much slower. It was suggested that slow metabolizers have more difficulty with withdrawal symptoms.
i was just prescribed luvox for what i think is only a very mild case of depression and i have already seen symptoms similar to akathisia ,waking up at 2am and not sleeping again at all the same night and feeling very restless and fidgity
Warning: Stay the fuck away from Luvox. It's great for controlling OCD, which I have as well as major depression. I still have depression and breakthrough symptoms while on the drug. If I miss a dose or drop below 100 mg. withdrawal begins that same day. I end up taking it just to avoid the withdrawal and get some relief from ocd and depression. I never had withdrawal on the older tricyclics, like anafranil, and I could stop if I chose to. Avoid Luvox.
If you're on a low dose, it might be easy to stop if you don't like it. If you've been on it for over a few months, there's withdrawal. If it helps you, stay on it. Depends how bad ur ocd is to begin with. However, It kills your sex drive.
i take paxil and i feel like it helps my depression a lot. I just get really bad night sweats and i just recently started getting heart palpitations but i don't know if they are caused by the paxil or not.
I agree! Antidepressants have become a quick and lazy way to practice medicine. It endangers those who take it and the doctors who prescribe these medications don't give a damn about the patient. If someone doesn't feel well, you investigate all options before risking someone's sanity and life by giving them a prescription for something that has suicide as side effect!!!!!!!!
@EllenCanDance You're right. It's all about money. And the doctor needs patients to try the new medications out on. Hospitals are all just about making money. They can sens the health insurance company a bill for $4,000 for a patient staying one week in a psych hospital, and for every SSRI the doctor prescibes the more money insurance is billed. For what? The doctor is not doing anything to alleviate the depression.
i was on them for about 8 years. i never had to much in the ways of withdrawal. i just have had a VERY hard time adjusting to life without being on these chemicals. its been two years and everyday is a struggle.
My doctor said I would have to take paxil the rest of my life. I have been on many different one's ,have had brain shocks sometimes hand shocks,myoclonic seizures would increase ,they have come back again,cause I have just went from paxil which I wanted off of, to yet another antidepresent. I can't understand how they can sell these drugs that can cause this condition to be permenant (hell)!!! i have bad deppression and anxiety it blows im on 4mgs of xanax aday i used to get drunk everyday with xanax because then i wouldnt feel weird going out places like everyone was looking at me or out to get me cant sleep either so i started taking ambien but i dont anymore i got hooked on xanax bars first off the street and then prescribed to them me and my friends would get so mest up on them we would fight each other and random people and also rob and steel from each other or corner stores.
How bad is the depression in your life? It has had a major impact on me in the past and would still have if I hadn't been on the meds.
Your experience was obviously not good, but these meds have saved many, many lives. They are the most prescribed drug in the UK. They continue to make people feel happy who have never been able to. It is a subject which hits home for me. The only time I would feel happy was when I was very drunk. Now I am happy without having to get drunk every day.
I don't know about the UK, but in the US when these drugs first came out, they were an absolute last resort. Now they're being passed out like free candy to patients as young as two (usually for aggressiveness and 'ADHD'). It's getting a little out of hand. In the state of Florida the use of these meds by children has gone up 250% in the past 7 years.
If you're a danger to yourself or others, meds can literally be a lifesaver. Otherwise it's a bandaid on a gaping wound IMHO.
i have to say to the people talking about how bad the withdrawal effects are - BE GLAD YOU CAN EVEN GO ON THESE PILLS. I have severe OCD/depression/anxiety and am allergic to them. I have tried all alternative therapies and I can't get them to work for me. I am never going to have a life.
kirkfnw, you can have a life w/o the meds. I'm doing it thru self hypnosis, meditation & cognitive therapy. I have everything you have & more. Have taken every ssri there is & they don't really help that much. Luckily I never had any side effects from when I stopped them. I just quit taking them. No tapering off or anything. Besides they make you get weight, stay tired, & you yawn constantly. None of them are that great IMHO.
Sorry about your OCD. I was ready to call it quits on life then I discovered Effexor. Since then I have traveled the world, lived in other countries, married a wonderful and supportive wife, and have watched my daughter complete 5 yrs of straight A education. THANK GOD for Effexor! My OCD had me about 1 more night away from ending it all, and I would never have the wonderful and happy life I have today.
I have been tryihng to come off of EffexorXR and have been made sick by the "medicine" and sick coming off of it.

I agree that the benefits need to be weighed against the risks. I would opt for the drug every time but am well aware not to stay on it too long and withdraw very slowly. When I first went on the drug I wasn't aware of the withdrawal problems but came off because I didn't like the idea of being on the drug. Just as well because with withdrawal symptoms I assumed it would have been correspondingly worse the longer I'd been on it. It made me feel so well in a short time though.
If you can help one person out there to let them know they are not alone in anti-depressant withdrawal, my life was worth living. The things these patients say are true, and their doctors & psychiatrists do not believe them. Pharmacists lack information. The FDA does not make any changes on the suicide warnings until they are forced to. Suicide is the end result, however, patients suffer a great deal before the end. I speak the truth.

Okay I've finally seen the light, I'm done with antidepressants. They cause more negative side effects and don't work beyond the placebo effect. Now I just realized that I could permanently have sexual dysfunction for the rest of my life. They only time I have a sex drive is when I smoke pot, something I should have treated my mental disorder with years ago. Fuck the Psychiatric field, it's full of corruption, deceit, and lies. I plan to sue once PSSD goes public, I hope they go bankrupt.

thankfully I had a group of people who are Christians, pray for me as i was coming off topomax. It was quite a TRIP! My thinking ability never was at the right capacity again after taking it for 9 months!

i used to take prozac,and then paxil years later.They made me more "normal",but they contained fluoride,which is toxic and suppresses thyroid function.So i quit.Now i`m back to being a reclusive neurotic nut.I dont know what to do.

I started on Wellbutrin, next to Celexa, then it was Effexor, Then from there is was Cymbalta. When I first started on anti-depressants they felt like just what I needed. I felt good, I laughed a lot, I always was in a positive optimistic mood. Believe it or not it all started with just one pill Wellbutrin which was administered just after my coming clean off of street drugs and alcohol addiction. Currently I am on: hydroxiyzine, trazodone, clontidine, and Cymbalta. I feel like killing myself. ☹

Side effects are worse than the original symptoms. If you are on these meds, it is dangerous to stop them quickly. Most are told that once you are on these it will be for a lifetime.

I am taking them for ages and nothing... bit better? I am on antibulimic dose of Prozac e.g. 60mg every mornig for 2 yeras now and I have gained 20kgs and developed diabetes and high blood presure. I am now overeating and in last weeks I lost interest in my kids ... my kids, my only brightness ... I do not play with them, I do not spend time with them... I lost job... I am pathetic.

Take simular medications( Xanax ,norpramin,trazodone) 25 yearss due to severe panic attacks,and agoraphobia.I had constant panic in my apt,when i had to turn to meds.Only people with severe cases should be put on meds.Psych nurse 2 times stopped my meds abruptly for a week, was in too much pain to walk.Should be laws that doctors cant abruptly takes meds like these off.because they are dangerous to stop.Had to skip dosages, take expired meds,was torture,very cruel.

Every single one of these psychiatric medications with the exception of maybe Wellbutrin leads to significant weight gain. Meaning that when patients are detained in these hospitals their health and safety are being strongly taxed, because since the medications lead to weight gain and the patient is not allowed to leave the unit he/she can not burn off any calories. That plus the crappy food he/she is given further leads to problems.

it has taken me 4 years to withdraw from seroxat ( paxill ) an SSRI 1mg every 6 to 8 weeks it is very dangerous to just stop it could be the death of you, from no where i got a super strong compulsion to commit suicide lots of times and it was only because i knew what it was, the withdrawl, as soon as i took some more seroxat within 40 mins or so the negative thoughts were gone, hard to believe when we are told to expect the meds to take 4 weeks or so before they work, it was hell on earth,

You MUST be hospitalized and heavily sedated. It is VERY dangerous to attempt to discontinue SSRI's on one's own. Withdrawals cause convulsions and seizures and blackouts - all very dangerous. This is in addition to the pain. It's criminal that potential users are not clearly informed that they can't stop.

They don't even know how their own drugs work precisely and you will end up killing yourself or hurting a loved one and then they will help prosecute you instead of owning up to the fact Canada and New Zealand know. @commun08 If you're getting over it, it isn't really depression. People with real depression don't "get over it" naturally.
The problem here is these drugs are being handed out like candy to people who simply don't need them. These drugs are intended for people who are so severely depressed that even the horrible side-effects are considered acceptable because of the severity of their condition.

July 2001 to July 2002 I took paxil (paroxetine); after 3months severe tension headaches started which I found out later calling distress lines pharmacy help lines the drug was toxic to me; it left me with malignant neoplasms brain per Baycrest Hospital Toronto; Hypothyroidism per Toronto Western.
Aunt Marion, Sister Debbie a buddy John Doran same head ache took further mood stablizers &/or antypical antipsychotics they are dead GSK or Ontario or Canada did nothing to help.

I suffered from terrible anxiety and depression which reduced me to just existing and lying in bed. I was glad of the medication which kicked in after 3 weeks. The downside was the loss of libido, bad dreams and more frequent migraines as I'm a migraineur,
On weaning off the drug I suffered zaps, and a withdrawal depression which necessitated going back on the drug and then weaning off much slower. It was suggested that slow metabolizers have more difficulty with withdrawal symptoms.

i was just prescribed luvox for what i think is only a very mild case of depression and i have already seen symptoms similar to akathisia ,waking up at 2am and not sleeping again at all the same night and feeling very restless and fidgity

Warning: Stay the fuck away from Luvox. It's great for controlling OCD, which I have as well as major depression. I still have depression and breakthrough symptoms while on the drug. If I miss a dose or drop below 100 mg. withdrawal begins that same day. I end up taking it just to avoid the withdrawal and get some relief from ocd and depression. I never had withdrawal on the older tricyclics, like anafranil, and I could stop if I chose to. Avoid Luvox.

If you're on a low dose, it might be easy to stop if you don't like it. If you've been on it for over a few months, there's withdrawal. If it helps you, stay on it. Depends how bad ur ocd is to begin with. However, It kills your sex drive.

I agree! Antidepressants have become a quick and lazy way to practice medicine. It endangers those who take it and the doctors who prescribe these medications don't give a damn about the patient. If someone doesn't feel well, you investigate all options before risking someone's sanity and life by giving them a prescription for something that has suicide as side effect!!!!!!!!

@EllenCanDance You're right. It's all about money. And the doctor needs patients to try the new medications out on. Hospitals are all just about making money. They can sens the health insurance company a bill for $4,000 for a patient staying one week in a psych hospital, and for every SSRI the doctor prescibes the more money insurance is billed. For what? The doctor is not doing anything to alleviate the depression.

i was on them for about 8 years. i never had to much in the ways of withdrawal. i just have had a VERY hard time adjusting to life without being on these chemicals. its been two years and everyday is a struggle.

My doctor said I would have to take paxil the rest of my life. I have been on many different one's ,have had brain shocks sometimes hand shocks,myoclonic seizures would increase ,they have come back again,cause I have just went from paxil which I wanted off of, to yet another antidepresent. I can't understand how they can sell these drugs that can cause this condition to be permenant (hell)!!! I hope someone can figure something out to help all those who have been hurt by these drugs,I PRAY !!!

i have bad deppression and anxiety it blows im on 4mgs of xanax aday i used to get drunk everyday with xanax because then i wouldnt feel weird going out places like everyone was looking at me or out to get me cant sleep either so i started taking ambien but i dont anymore i got hooked on xanax bars first off the street and then prescribed to them me and my friends would get so mest up on them we would fight each other and random people and also rob and steel from each other or corner stores.

How bad is the depression in your life? It has had a major impact on me in the past and would still have if I hadn't been on the meds.
Your experience was obviously not good, but these meds have saved many, many lives. They are the most prescribed drug in the UK. They continue to make people feel happy who have never been able to. It is a subject which hits home for me. The only time I would feel happy was when I was very drunk. Now I am happy without having to get drunk every day.

I don't know about the UK, but in the US when these drugs first came out, they were an absolute last resort. Now they're being passed out like free candy to patients as young as two (usually for aggressiveness and 'ADHD'). It's getting a little out of hand. In the state of Florida the use of these meds by children has gone up 250% in the past 7 years.
If you're a danger to yourself or others, meds can literally be a lifesaver. Otherwise it's a bandaid on a gaping wound IMHO.

i have to say to the people talking about how bad the withdrawal effects are - BE GLAD YOU CAN EVEN GO ON THESE PILLS. I have severe OCD/depression/anxiety and am allergic to them. I have tried all alternative therapies and I can't get them to work for me. I am never going to have a life.

kirkfnw, you can have a life w/o the meds. I'm doing it thru self hypnosis, meditation & cognitive therapy. I have everything you have & more. Have taken every ssri there is & they don't really help that much. Luckily I never had any side effects from when I stopped them. I just quit taking them. No tapering off or anything. Besides they make you get weight, stay tired, & you yawn constantly. None of them are that great IMHO.

Sorry about your OCD. I was ready to call it quits on life then I discovered Effexor. Since then I have traveled the world, lived in other countries, married a wonderful and supportive wife, and have watched my daughter complete 5 yrs of straight A education. THANK GOD for Effexor! My OCD had me about 1 more night away from ending it all, and I would never have the wonderful and happy life I have today.

B E W A R E ...... it builds in your cells.
..... it builds up ..... you don't know it is happening until it is too late. I'm glad Effexor helped you..... just BE AWARE when the doctors want to increase your dosage..... or.... as they like to do, add another medication to make the effexor work better.... LISTEN TO YOUR BODY

I agree that the benefits need to be weighed against the risks. I would opt for the drug every time but am well aware not to stay on it too long and withdraw very slowly. When I first went on the drug I wasn't aware of the withdrawal problems but came off because I didn't like the idea of being on the drug. Just as well because with withdrawal symptoms I assumed it would have been correspondingly worse the longer I'd been on it. It made me feel so well in a short time though.

If you can help one person out there to let them know they are not alone in anti-depressant withdrawal, my life was worth living. The things these patients say are true, and their doctors & psychiatrists do not believe them. Pharmacists lack information. The FDA does not make any changes on the suicide warnings until they are forced to. Suicide is the end result, however, patients suffer a great deal before the end. I speak the truth.
